Download Cause Problem

Recently, I downloaded K-Lite 3.9 codec as to replace my old K-Lite 3.6.5. After complete downloading, I am not able to run it. I have already deleted my older version. The problem I face now is that I am not able to open most of my programs or files. Whenever I click on any of my files, it will open as windows media player. The best part is that my WMP cannot open due to reason given that my codec is not recognised by the WMP. Even my internet explorer when I click open will face the same thing. Most of the icons on the desktop has changed to WMP. Properties for each are under target WMP. I could not default my com nor do a recovery. Pls help?????? :cry: :cry:

Wah Jialat already. Try do a system restore (if you have this ON). Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

 

If cannot, check if all the file types are changes to WMV. Under Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types. Very tedious to change one by one.

 

A quick one is to do an OS Repair using Windows XP CD. PLEASE BACKUP First. Won't be responsible for lost data.

 

Last Resort, Reformat and reinstall the OS.

which version of WMP r u using?

did u delete the previous klite codec pack properly? i.e. using uninstaller

 

suggest u try to uninstall WMP and download a fresh updated copy using windows update and then proceed to add-on with klite codec pack

doesnt sound like a big issue. okie. mayb u wanna del the new version den use back the old version? resintalling wmp is not a prob. (i dun like to use it anyway) k-lite media player is much better in my view.

 

anyway, y u upgrade the k-lite? hand itchy right? haha.

Wait a min...did you say K-lite Codec Pack?

 

I think in one of its installation steps, it asked whether you want to associate certain files with programs such as Windows Media Player. And it's not just one checkbox, but several file formats to which you can choose to do that "association".

 

1 more thing: I remembered K-lite did distribute an app for this problem: Go look inside your Start Menu > Programs > K-lite Codec. Inside, there should be something like a control panel application which lets you change the "associations" back the way it was. Sorry, forgot what it's named though.

Thanks for your reply. I believe I got the latest version of WMP. My window vista not allowed to uninstall them. I could not even change the files type 1 by 1. The best part is that I could not find back my old K-Lite 3.6.5. Anyway, can I get any specialist to come over my place to fix it. How much will that be?
