The market rate for car parking is charged by hourly basis , while bikes , if need to pay , r normally charged $1 per entry .

So , in business sense , which one will reap in more $ on space used per hour basis ?

A car parked at a lot for 5 hrs might reap in at least $5 if charged at a rate of $5 per hr , while a bike parked for 5hrs is still charge at $1 as its per entry , so which one will earn more for the management ?

Tats y most places dun have lots for bikes , cos they dun earn much from bikes . Cars r their cash cows .

Some oso think , cars have bigger boot space , so they can shop more n bring home , bikes how to carry so many things ?

It all boils down to one thing .... MONEY MAKING

Hi Bros,

I've forwarded an edited version of the letter to the BIKER BOY columnist of TNP Zaihan Yusoff and he has replied back to me.

Quote : "Thanks for your email. From what you've written I can feel you pain. Can I have your contact details like your HP number perhaps. I would like to write about this and gather as many voices as possible.

Thanks,

Kudos to you jainal_tokyo:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

I've written to The New Paper to request them to do a report article about motorcycle parking in shopping complexes and I'd even spoken with one of them and thought they would do so...Turned out only published two letters...:nono:

Anyway, glad you manage to get hold of bikerboy and I will definitely look forward to this Sunday to read it!! Hope he does us some justice...:thumb:

I am doing that also.

Initially I wanted to go the other day, to take photo of the car park and the motor that is park on the pavement. But heng heng that fellow replied and promised to have motor parking, so will just wait and see.

Actually is their (building manangement) action consider DISCRIMINATING?

Basically if they say that bikes are not allow into their building it also mean to say that the user are also not welcome into the building. So iszit right to say that bikes are consider as second class or lower?

Am just curious, why there are no LAW pertaining to this?

Well, they ARE the management and they have the 'right'... but since they don't seem to be very keen on attracting motorcyclists at the moment, so I will gladly obilge.

Singaporeans are spoilt for choice in terms of shopping centres anyway... and it's not like they have something special that nowhere else has.

Anyway I'm also interested to find out if there are legislation regarding motorcycle parking spaces in commercial buildings... but apparently from the look of things in the present situation, there is none.

I've sent a letter to the Straits Times complaining about parking. Not near enough public parking, and what parking is available is filled with bikes that stay all day.

And the private parking sucks. We are second class customers. Go park somewhere else but come do business with us. I think not. I go to Kinikuniya not Borders because of the parking. Same for golf equipment. My own bank pisses me off. I've got a good size company account at UOB in UOB plaza but they won't let me park there. What is that?

Looks like Vivocity is still ambiguous about letting bikes in....Since the management has said that they're expediting efforts to complete bike lots by official opening in Dec, let's give it some time before we pass any verdict...Meanwhile, let's wait n see wat bikerboy of New Paper has to write on behalf of us bikers...

hey guys & girls

This is an AWESOME thread. Very useful. But i had to trudge through quite a bit to get to the actual list. But of course there is a need for discussion regarding parking in Singapore - the debacle of vivoCity clearly underlines that - and I fully encourage that to stay and grow in this thread, but what do you guys think about moving the list to somewhere more easily referenced and edited?

On that note I took the initiative of taking the most updated list (put up here on Oct 11 2006, 02:36 PM) and placing it on Wikipedia. I know the collation of the list was thanks to many many people, and a note crediting SBForums has been placed. I hope that is satisfactory. I also hope I am not incurring copyright or whatever by doing this. The list is an excellent collation of what is public knowledge, and should be disseminated (and easily edited) to one and all.

To view/edit the list, please go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorcycle_Parking_in_Singapore

If there be unhappiness, I can easily take the page down (or it will disappear into wiki heaven if not enough people check it out anyway).

cheers
