Jim Owens sent me the info to do this (The Guy that ran 218+ at Maxton)

You must also remove the 2 tabs that are sitting up and after remounting the two brackets (Grind the ends a little to reduce the size) lengthen the strap hole.

Not that I think the days of the ZX-12R are over, I think the ZX-12R will live in history as one of the best all around bikes ever made. I am also confident that Kawasaki has not thrown in the towel on the formula for the best all around bike ever.

With that said, I was going over some of the old pics I had on the 12. I started remembering the initial days leading up to getting my Green 2000 ZX-12R.

I had been following the rumours of the ZX-12R early in 1999.

I remember seeing pics from overseas and setting up parallel search engines to run in batch jobs continually searching the internet for information on the ZX-12R.

It was a very exciting time with a number of preview pictures that promised a very exciting machine that would break the rules for any bike currently made, including the Busa.

I remember seeing an article on Dragbike.com describing the ZX-12R.

The pic that made me fall in love with the ZX-12R is below:

http://www.zx-12r.org/PhotoPost/data//2/y2k_zx12_8.jpg

The full article is on Dragbike.com at :

http://www.dragbike.com/news/features/firstlook_y2k_zx12.htm

Jeroen at zx11.info has a great site with a lot of history he has accumulated. Jeroen was the first pioneer archiving information on the ZX-12R. It was Jeroen that turned over the domain name ZX-12R.org to me to use for the archived material I had accumulated. He had been having a tough time with hosting overseas and for awhile I believe he was shutting down. I am happy to be able to provide Jeroen hosting on the ZX-12R.org server for his awesome site zx11.info

If you want a great trip down memory alley check out one of Jeroen's pages for the ZX-12R history at :

http://www.zx11.info/zx12r/history/beginning.htm

I think it will be difficult for another manufacturer to come up with another bike that stirs people so passionately about owning it. To the people that got sucked into the N.American magazine hype and bought a Busa, they truly missed out. To the people that never tried a 12, they may have missed out on one of the finest bikes every made.

I count myself lucky that I was able to own and ride the first year of the best all around bike in history. Kawasaki did it right when they made the ZX-12R and there is a reason they were so proud of the bike and why they published the famous Silver Book, "The making of the ZX-12R"

I can't guarantee that the ZX-12R will beat the new ZZR1400 on the track, but I can guarantee that the ZZR1400 will never stir the emotions that the 12 did for the fortunate riders that had a chance to ride one. The ZZR1400 will never have "The making of the ZX-14" book made with the pride of Kawasaki pouring out of every page and picture.

I honestly believe the success of the ZX-12R will be rekindled by Kawasaki, I would like to believe that Kawasaki is not just driven by accountants on all fronts, that their pride in making a truly remarkable machine can still win out and produce yet another bike that will win people over again with the emotion that the ZX-12R did in 2000.

My 2000 still runs like a Swiss watch, I have no reason to believe it won't run the same until Kawasaki Engineering decides to put the accountants back in their place and get back to designing the best bike on the planet just because they can and want to.

Here's to hoping that Kawasaki decides to make something more than just a bike that sells. I will be waiting. And I am sure there are plenty more that want the same thing, a ZX-14R with all style and complete package the ZX-12R had but just a bit better.

i like wat this guy said

the ZX-12R NINJA was something out of the ordinary.... a bike that "broke the mold".

It was the first time (that I know of) that a company upscaled their open-class sportbike into a big bore version. The ZX12R is essentially a steroid-fed ZX9R... power and speed of a big bore with the sportiness of an open-class sportbike. The thought of having the best of both worlds got me hook line and sinker....

It's fast on the highway,it can play with the literbikes in the twisties, and even eat up hundreds of miles at a time. It's that "do-all" performance that made the ZX12R such a versatile machine that could pretty much hold it's own regardless of the situation.

Many say the ZX12R suffered from an identity crisis, and was therefore a failure because of it. They argued it wasn't quite a literbike.. but wasn't quite a sport tourer either. In my opinion, the ZX12R wasn't made to fall into one specific category, but more so to create it's own. A bike that rode on it's own path rather than follow that of another.... that's what makes it special.

There is no bike that handles anything you ask of it quite as well as the ZX12R, IMHO. I believe that's the balance Kawasaki was trying to create. They promised the ultimate bike.... they delivered.

But, because it doesn't excell above and beyond all others in any 1 specific task on paper.... its appeal is often overlooked which causes it to be severely underestimated.

This is both a blessing and a curse... depending on how you look at it.

One of the MAIN things that turned me on to the ZX12R was the fact that it was a rare bike. It had a unique presence and distinct attitude uncommonly found on today's bikes. It is raw and uninhibited all while maintaining a regal personality.

The 12R is a scrapper by nature... born for the sole purpose of raising hell against whoever is foolish enough to ask for it.

Few bikes have the personality of the Kawasaki ZX12R NINJA.... and that's why I fell in love.
