Hi all, was wondering what this meant.

Reason: Air fuel mixture too rich (Crazy vibrations at higher revs making it too uncomfortable)

Solution: Tune air fuel mixture leaner (Turn screw anti-clockwise 1/2 - 1 round)

is tt the idling speed knob on the right side of the carb? any pictures anyone? thanks!

there are 2 different knobs. one knob is on the carb itself, and u require a screwdriver to turn the screw to tune to ur desired level... another is the idling knob which u can simply turn by hand...

so usually u tune the carb to a good level and then u can use e idling knob for minor changes... :)

1) Any idea why during pick up, there is this "tock! tock!" sound coming from my chain?

it might be due to a chain roller which is loose... quite a cheap fix... if not, i think maybe ur chain might be too loose, and even after tightening still got the sound, then i think time to change ur chain and sprockets...

2) not sure if it's me, but my engine (the part where u pour EO in) is hotter than usual after a ride

I think there sure hot one bro... what u can do is check ur EO level. if ur EO level is too low, then u might have found ur ans... ur engine not enough eo, it might get over-heated... the thing about phantom is, it is not supposed to "eat" EO, but sometimes, due to seals wearing off, EO gets "eaten"... if EO is getting eaten up, 2 solutions, one is to get it overhauled, usually only top over-haul and this will cost about $400... another is to top up ur EO regularly... some feel topping up no gd, but I have seen ppl use their EO eating phantom for over 3 years just by topping up and they are still riding it without issues...

how to check EO- make sure ur bike is warmed up, sit on it, unscrew e knob at the place where u pour in EO, thats ur dipstick... wipe it and dip it back all the way into the place where u pour EO, dun need to screw in, just dip all the way in... then take out, the oil level should be within e "xxx" mark on the dipstick. if u dun get any reading or its way over the level, not good... best is just nice at the top of the highest "x"...

3) During change gear, 4 to 5, there seems to be some power loss, like the throttle is nt responsive, it takes like 1 - 2s before the engine goes VrOooM!

this might be due to clutch or ur gear itself... sometimes it might be carb containing a little bit of water or even maybe cause u change gear too early...

4) Fuel consumption has gone from 40km/l to 30km/l =( very sian...

this means u have a problem bro... if the drop is over a long time, like 1-2 yrs, then i think not that bad.... but over a short time then not good.

5) My clutch slips when i rev too much during smaller gears

then it should be time to change clutch plates bro...

all in all, we usually say one thing... go to planet motors at ubi... get the boss, ah chong, to test ride ur bike... he will definitely honestly tell u what should b changed and what not necessary to do... planet is at 3007 ubi ave 3... seriously, just go down there bro... dun say very far all, cause singapore only this big... everywhere can reach in less than 30mins on bike... :)

ur bikes problems might be serious or might not be serious... so best to let him check... u can tell him all e problems u face and he will check the spefic parts to make sure no problem... but please b prepared to wait for ur turn, even if it takes an hour and please be prepared to get scolded and made fun of... cause thats ah chong... he's super nice and fun... :)

Guys, something strange happens when it rains... my bike can just die like that. Could it be that the exhaust gets too wet? I'm out of ideas... it absolutely fine when dry, but raining time it gets bad especially when water splashes on the exhaust pipe.

Posted

could be rain entering the spark plug. check your spark plug cap.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

hey Armani Bro, thanks for the in-depth review!

appreciated the time spent.

1) i should settle this first...

2) i guess i'm over sensitive. just overhauled last aug.

3) Power loss while change gear, that is during clutch in. I usually rev a little before clutching out.

4) yah.. it's over the years thingy... but it can't be that drastic mah.. something is wrong somewhere...

Do what's right, not what you think is right. =)

yup, like what bro CSV said, it is most likely the spark plug cap... water enters, then bike dies down when the plug is wet, but once it dries, then can start again... think it costs $18 at planet... :)

really go let ah chong to test ride... he might be able to find out why... u just overhauled last year??? n FC is 30km/L?? then thats not good... get it checked soon... ur air filter might be old also, causing higher consumption of fuel... u might want to get KNN air filter which costs about $70, i helped my fren get from Eversuccess which is just outside mustafa there... :)

Problem: Battery keep going flat every 2-3 days, even after changing to a new battery. Fuse and rectifier no problem.

Reason: IU might have short circuited.

Solution: Recharge, disconnect IU. if bike runs normal for next 5 days, can confirm that IU is faulty. Get IU replaced.

check if the right side footpeg guard (metal heatshield thing) is loose and vibrating.

What kind of chirping is it? It can have "other implications". Going planet tmw?

But only when I accelerate then I can hear the chirping sound so I dun understand where the sound is comin from..I'll drop by planet if I can tmr! :)

Armani,

I do visit Chong quite often... at least once every 2 mths... even overhaul was done @ planet..

in fact, i don't go to other bike shops unless my EO is way over due and i have to get it replaced nearby...

I just changed my filter too... Roar! he was the one who change it! probably during jan.

I believe it might be my carb... cos there are alot of residue around it... like growing alge...

but he say no need to was carb is no problem...

Do what's right, not what you think is right. =)

Hi PKs,

I had my ta200 for almost 2 years already... some common issues which didn't bother me much, but i would like to share and see if u guys have encountered such issues.

1) Any idea why during pick up, there is this "tock! tock!" sound coming from my chain? (i do lube my chain every 500km)

2) not sure if it's me, but my engine (the part where u pour EO in) is hotter than usual after a ride

3) During change gear, 4 to 5, there seems to be some power loss, like the throttle is nt responsive, it takes like 1 - 2s before the engine goes VrOooM!

4) Fuel consumption has gone from 40km/l to 30km/l =( very sian...

5) My clutch slips when i rev too much during smaller gears

Please enlighten me broS~

ty~

item 3 and 4 related...haved you clean your chains on a regular basis..

EZZYOILER reccommends that the chains to be cleaned and lubed every 500km...

it look like you lube but did not cleaned your chains..the problems you described is a dirty chain issue..

the ezzyoiler will take care of your chains and ensure it is in tip top conditions...check out the ezzyoiler at the pmo for more details

when the clutch slipped..check your clutch free play..5mm will do. if that didnt helped looks like you need a clutch plate replacement.

if this 2 items done your fc will improve...reson beibg you have a power transmission issues...whic is robbing you horse power.

Edited by ezzyoiler

i love my ezzyoiler

experience the miracle...

where chain cleaning is history...

The "hot bike" issue is quite normal, just got to start it up (somehow), do a couple of drag racing style starts with it from the next traffic light and all will be well. Might be due to fuel evaporating somewhere (carb overheat?)

For @Maka 's issue - $191 problem rectified by kopitiam diagnosis backed by engineering support from our favourite garage :3

lol... kopitiam engineering huh... i'm still monitoring my fuel consumption... hope it gets better....

i'll try to meet up with u guys. =)

When i bought hi phantom, its fuel consumption was around 30km/litre. I took out the air filter and it was totally black (its supposed to be yellow so i wonder what the previous owner did), after changing the air filter, consumption was 37-39km/litre. Go check it out, its a common problem many people faced.

There's this black roller thinggy under your chain, when its faulty, and your chain's not very tight, you'll hear that chirping sound. During acceleration bottom chain lose/top chain tighten = chirpy sound. But during engine brake, bottom chain tighten/top chain lose = no sound. Is my description of your problem correct? If it is, you can tighten chain or change the roller to solve the problem. BTW the rollers cost 8 bucks @ planet.

any bike shop to fix damper for TA200...to the fork so as to stabilize cornering????

fix damper?? you mean fork oil level?

bro, have you check your tyre pressure or your tyre going botak?? if yes, suggest ask shop check bearing, both fork seals and oil level.

all these are wear and tear items, most shops can do the job, need to check regularly for safety reason.

Hmm sounds reasonable..so I've to get my chain checked then since I only changed the roller 2months back..
