most definitely the 2009 CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide. Or the 1907 Single. After you tell us what you want the bikie to be suitable for, i'm sure others will also have even more constructive suggestions.

If you wanna go touring, get the Ultra Glide. If you wanna go to work and back home through heavy traffic, get a Sportster. You can go touring with it too. If you wanna go to work and back home through some traffic, get a Dyna or a Softail. You can go touring with it too. Actually, you can go through heavy traffic with an Ultra too... BLA BLA BLA...

I suggest you go down to the Dealership and buy a bike that you like. Go for a test ride on different models and get the one you like best. There is no such thing as one Harley better than another one.

It's your damn bike, wash it yourself! You rinse your own mouth after you eat, don't you?

ooo yeah..im not into touring and the sportster is well..not my cup of coffee.i was tinking more abt the V-rod models.i surfed Harley's webby yest and I was v v impressed with the V-rod muscle.isit available here?

You have answered your own question. You don't need any recommendations from us & Yes, the VRod is available in SG.

Why don't you just go to the dealership & have a chat with one of the HD sales people?

@welly:

The V Rod Muscle is not here yet. It is a 2009 model and the official release has not been announced yet. usually when the new bikes are announced, Singapore Harley Dealership will usually have a customer's night and launch that bike together with some food and drinks. Customers will be able to test ride some units and then place the order if they so wish.

Since V rod is more your style and to your liking, i can only assume you like the low and mean look of the v rod. It is the only liquid cooled engine in the harley range (for now) and it is built more for straight line power rather than tackling the twisties. Having said that, you can easily mod a sporster or dyna to look low and mean and you still have the ability to tackle the twisties. I am sure many forum friends will atest to that.

Before opening up your wallet, what other forum friends have suggested is good. Take a look at the magazines and see how people mod their bikes. It is endless. So maybe, you may be able to find something you like there and it may not be a v rod but either a sporster, dyna, softail or glide based platform.

As for recommendation, it is very hard. every bike has its + and - points and different riders have different needs. So it is best to buy or browse more magazines before parting with your cash.

Cheers

Hi Welly...It's also best to start looking around the bike scene in Singapore, ask around and make comparisons...from there you'll get a better idea of what you are looking at and don't forget about maintenance / parts / accessories costings too...It all makes the difference because it's you who will be spending the monies...My two cents is "Take your time and don't rush into deciding before you really know what you are going into..."

Good luck in your hunt for your ride bro...Cheers....

Hi Welly, quite true what Throttle said....adding to that: "The decision for your ride is all up to you, only can decide on the perfect ride just fitting enough for yourself. Not anyone suggestions, opinions or directions. The only way to know is by sitting on the ride you really, really desire and feel the ride. It's like knowing a woman, not to insult anyone ya but it's the same feeling...."

I wish you all the best in your choice and decisions. Have a good one bro....

gr8 one, there brudder...actually,as a matter of fact,i love HD 'cos it's like cool and from wat i c,the guys who ride into Arab St every other weekend nite, they make riding HD so cool.but then again,i may b too narrow-minded and i havent thought of other reasons y i love HD.the closest ive ridden to a HD is the moto guzzi california and i must say it was ok.'cos i have this tinking dat only HD can give me the ride other cruisers cant...furthermore,the only cruiser i 1st saw was a HD so mayb dats y im being biased.but like i said earlier,i may b missing out on other fun stuffs

Your reasons for getting a Harley should not be because it is cool riding a Harley. Many of the forum friends here rides Harley and look cool not because riding a Harley is cool. It is because they themselves are cool. Great people. They can be on Honda Cubs or RXKs and they will still look cool. Having said that, I can show you a ton of people that are uncool who rides Harleys. They are simply jerks.

Let me share with you why i love my harley and maybe, it will help you a bit on decisions:

1. I love bikes. From rusted down RXKs to super chrome Ultra Glides. 2 wheels or trikes...as long as it is F or A plate...i love it.

2. I chose the harley because there are a lot of after market support and it allows me to mod and build the kind of custom that i like and will enjoy. And all these after market support, are engineeringly sound and well built and constructed. So when i travel 140kmh and decide to go 160...i can trust the parts that i am using and ride with confidence.

3. I chose harley becuase they do last and the build quality is good. I dont enjoy or rather...do not have the $ to chase technology. If i buy an R1 now, next year, i wish i had the later model R1 due to its better technology and construction. (I used to own the last carburated R1 sometime back).

4. The harley is simple. Air cooled + carburated to Air cooled + EFI to Liqiud cooled + EFI. because of the huge after market support, the older your harley, the more precious it becomes. I would take a 1970 harley or older if i can now for example.

5. You can truly mod and customize your harley to no end. I am not saying that you cant do it with your metrics or your triumphs and BSAs...but it is much simpler with the harley.

6. There are two ways to mod. Self Fabrication or Catalogue mods. Unless you know very good sheet metal shops and some good LTA folks, self fabrication is not easy. Getting the bike passed is tough. I once built a rigid chopper using an XT660 engine and single seat ground up. I had to go through hell to get that past through the LTA and get it registered. I had to change the rake so many times just to pass the front end. I was very proud of the build but Singapore doesnt support these efforts. They say they do...but we all know...

7. that was when i started the harley adventure. i can do 50% self fabrication and 50% catalogue. They mix and match up very well at times and keeps me happy. Most of the time, my bike is in pieces and sometimes, i love my harley not because it gives me joy and satisfaction when i am riding it, it also keeps me happy when i am not riding it and builing it up.

I hope this has helped. Dont get a harley because it is cool. Jerks ride harleys too.

Since your perception is such, I would say go for what HD is known for.

i.e. the flagship models which go back a long way and have the oldest of fans.

VROD is a bit neither here nor there to me

Not that fast, by today's standards compared to any other big bike.

Not much heritage as the model is still new.

only think is it's a refreshing look and the highest powered of the HD stable.

I would say, more often than not.

If you getting NEW bike, just drop by dealership. Look for the sales (Kim, Gary or Daniel). They are the best person to answer all your questions if you are really getting one. Hang around there and talk to riders who drop by for a drink or two.
