This MP3 forum is quite dead... I posted my questions on 22-Dec and haven't got any reply yet....

Outdoorchap, I'm quite fixed on getting an mp3125. Yes. Its underpowered. This bike is built for city/town usage. But in Singapore, basically everywhere is considered city/town as compared to those European places where they need to ride some distance to reach their homes.

My consideration for getting this bike is simple,

1) Safety - more stability on corners, wet roads

2) Something different - I'm currently driving an OPC car... feel like a change to have a bike for transporting myself...

Hope you will get yours too!!!

Jason

hahah thanks! I am also driving an OPC! MP3 125cc no stock in singapore. March is the earliest we can get it!

After riding my Piaggio MP3 400ie for 3weeks, i decide to write something here to benifit those who plan or want to ride a Mp3. My last bike before MP3 was X8 200cc

I am still enjoying with this bike. It gave me a very different feel on how to ride a bike (BTW, i rode bike for 11years). I guess only 1mil out of 5mil Singaporean had seen this kind of bike, that's why you will get all kinds of look and stare down the street. Some people with just stare at the front wheel while some people with give my bike a smile. There are some people just excited over it and start broadcast among his friend around him what he saw. There are even biker stop beside me and ask 'Shoik ar!! ride this kind of bike'. lolx

Joke aside.

pros and cons + neturel (From my personal opinion and experience)

Pros

This bike

-can do a better and safer e-brake since it have 3 wheel on the ground. TESTED!!!

-feel safer when cornering even during raining day. (Well, this is very subjective as my corner may be equal to your turning. And when i said 'feel safer', that is because i won't know if it's exactly safer to do corner than 2 wheeler but at least i won't dare to do that corner while i am riding my X8)

-Fuel comsumption is acceptable for 400cc. (i am riding from hougang to Bukit Gombak every day via AMk ave 3>AMk Ave 6>Lornie road>PIE>BKE. Jam most of the day and manage to acheived 23-24l)

-Not sure how true, i think it's very diffcult to get self skidded with this bike unless you purposely bend too low or met into a accident.

-You can decide not to put your leg down when coming to a stop at red light (only when you master when you engage your tilt lock). I find this very useful especially raining day. But i heard it might shorten your tilt lock life span.

Cons

This bike

-Leg room is very limited. I cannot stretch my leg at all, i guess no scooter rider want this to happen.

-storage under seat is great but slighty less than X8

-Piaggio box have the same pattern as x8 but the screw is not intact like X8. Anyone can just come and take away the screw.

-can't turn sharply into car park like 2 wheeler do(Maybe i haven't get used to it)

neturel

While many worry about how this bike too wide to squeeze through the heavy traffic in Singapore. Well, It's very subjective to your skill. I can just squeeze through the traffic jam daily as i do before on my X8 or Super4 Spec 1. ofcos, i can't squeeze like 'jiu hu kia'. Instead, i find this bike very long in term of length, so when park my bike, it will not cover within the white box.

Maintenance

While i do many research on this bike. I have found this bike (at least for 400cc version) have some unsolved problem.

1)Bike will stall for no reason - most of the time happen when coming to a stop (Some people say it has something to do with air filter). I am getting lesser stall after one wash of air filter.

2)noise from front brake. Guess it's dirty.

Other than this 2 common unknown problem, the rest of the maintenance is very much like other maxi scooter.

Conclusion

I have not regreted to buy this bike. It's fun to ride, safe to corner and happy being a pop star on the road. I would glad if the manufacturer can produce a better quality bike to resolve the unknown problem. For people who want to buy the 125cc version. I have personally tried 125cc verion 3 years ago when it just launched. If you don't really care about power, you can try this bike. But i think you will have problem selling after you get your class 2A or Class 2 and you wanna get a bigger version of 3-wheeler since many agreed it's underpowered.

PS: Sorry for my home made English

Dragonia, So do you manage to solve the stall problem? I recently found out that if i don't ramp my throttle at pick up, my engine wont' stall. maintain my rpm at pickup period at 3500 - 4000rpm. Ofcos, i do proper warm up everyday

Hi Oceanb70

Thanks for sharing your experiences with the MP3 400. They mirror a lot of my own too. Just to add I also get around ~24 km/l normal driving, ~25 km/l if I do more highway (ie. late for work & cheong expressway :p)

On prev problem with engine stalling, I just went to ADH today for another round of check. To recap:

- my MP3 400 engine was stalling frequently at low speed

- ADH then cleaned up the engine & added some injector addictive

- problem resolved , but now the engine/exhaust kept backfiring when I decelerate

- ADH today said apparently this is a frequent occurrence and can't be helped, I have to live with either stalling or backfiring. WTH? Their advice is to add the injector addictive myself every few months, and to pump 98 petrol now and then.

A lot of internet stuff points to the fuel mix being too lean, and having to adjust the carb jetting. ADH told me the MP3 is all electronically controlled and can't do anything abt it.

Am seriously thinking of going some other workshop for 2nd/3rd opinion. Any recommendation for a good workshop familiar with the MP3?

Hi fellow MP3 owners. I've been eyeing on da 400cc model for a very long time. How's da maintainence like? Is it somewhat like SYM GTS200 cuz I've owned dat model previously. Now I'm riding a Honda Spec1 but I'm looking for a more relaxing ride & I find dat da MP3 is the suitable model for me. I would also like to find out if the top box kit is good & any legalized aftermarket exhausts for the 400cc model. Do share ur opinions. Thanks so much. :)

Past rides:

1st ride : Vespa PX150

2nd ride : Honda Wave 125

3rd ride : SYM GTS 200

4th ride : Honda Super 4 Spec 2

5th ride : Derbi DRD 125 SM

Current ride : :dot:

I have only ride this bike for one month. I will say maintenance is as per normal piaggio bike. But definitely more than spec 1 as maxi scooter required regular change of belt.

Hah! Now that you mentioned it, ADH said the same to me when it was stalling at low speed previously, and also now when its backfiring on deceleration. Thought it's 2 separate issues? Can anyone recommend another knowledgeable MP3 workshop to get a second opinion?

I tried combing the ModernVespa forums too. Apparently backfiring on the 500 is quite common, especially when running in the bike initially or after the ECU is reset. Hopefully problem will go away after more mileage [cross finger].

hi guys!

Since both Piaggio MP3 400 and Gilera MP3 500 are belongs to the same company group.

Are their engine, technology the same for both? Can their parts interchangable?

Any idea what is the OTR price for MP3 400 and 500?

Also, which one is cheaper in terms of maintance, petrol consumption.

Thanks

Is there any place which sells this engine additive off the shelf? Correct me if i am wrong but changing the rollers and pumping 98 will prevent/solve the problems?

i been pumping 98 since i got the bike(been riding for 2500km). Not sure abut the roller though but many say the filter is the main cause. I have no time to clean the filter yet.

repost bro...someone has posted about it before..

but are you sure its on its way to s'pore?

Yes i know it is a repost. Just that i post what is all in the Piaggiornale Magazine here in Singapore. Same as for the X8 400cc i posted in the X8 thread.

All this will come true if it pass the LTA inspection Test. Imagine the storage area of 65 litre.

Don't think the MP3 use those canister type of filter from K&N.

I bought a new air filter from ADH, it's basically just a flat piece of sponge that is cut to the shape of the air-filter compartment, for

Not sure how exactly the Dr Pulley's sliding roller will help with the stalling/backfiring problems, but I can't seem to find them anywhere here in SG. Any luck from others? Any good workshops to recommend?
