Yeah! Baby! Another model from my favorite Star Motorcycles.

All you current Dragstar 400 riders please listen up! If you have been complaining abt your 400 lack of power & was always hoping for 650 version, well, this model will surely overrule the 650.

Go upgrde to Class 2 & hope HL got the guts to bring this baby here. But then again, we still have Looi's Motors to import for you lah.

Introducing 2009 VStar 950.

http://www.starmotorcycles.com/assets/products/mcy/general/media_content_unit0187924bdd.jpg

ALL-NEW FOR 2009

As a new benchmark in middleweight cruiser class, the V Star 950 brings it all together in an exciting new package. A muscular 942cc air-cooled V-twin engine with plenty of distinctive, big-cruiser character and pulsing torque feel. A full-sized chassis for spacious comfort, with a long, low look that also means an extra-low seat height so valued by riders without extra-long inseams. Sporty, responsive handling that makes riding on curvy back roads or commuting around town as much fun as cruising the open highway. V Star 950 has the credentials to appeal to seasoned riders just as much as those looking for an entry-level, confidence-inspiring machine.

The new 942cc 60° V-twin engine is both simple and sophisticated. Traditional air cooling is used, but this engine also has four-valve cylinder heads, ceramic-composite-lined cylinders, forged aluminum pistons, and fuel injection for spirited performance. A straightforward SOHC design is used, with special compact roller-type rocker arms, helps to keep the top end lighter for more mass centralization. The stylish 2-into-1 exhaust system has been meticulously tuned to provide an exceptionally pleasing, yet throaty exhaust note, yet it also includes 3-way catalyst technology to reduce air pollution.

There’s more going on in the newly designed double-cradle steel frame than its decidedly clean, simple appearance. The steel main frame, which uses the engine as a stressed member of the chassis, has been carefully designed to offer an ideal rigidity balance in the longitudinal, lateral, and torsional directions. That translates to an exceptionally light feeling that riders are sure to appreciate. The front tire is mounted on a large diameter, 18-inch wheel, and engine mounting position is slightly forward to optimize front-rear weight distribution, all of which contributes to the V Star 950’s outstanding handling performance, not only in cruising but on winding roads as well.

The V Star 950 brings styling to a sleek new level, one we call ”Sport Classic.” There are many “classic” cruiser styling characteristics. However, what’s unique is the V Star 950’s light and sporty look characterized by the large diameter front & rear wheels with low profile tires, thin body shape, and fenders that have just the right amount of volume and draw. The headlight and low-profile fuel tank are designed to accentuate the bike’s light, low look, as is the openness around the engine and front wheel.

Engine:

The 942cc (57.5 cu. in) engine is an air-cooled SOHC 60° V twin. With four valves per head, a pent-roof shaped combustion chamber, and 9.0:1 compression ratio, this engine has been carefully designed to produce excellent power characteristics – and best-in-class acceleration.

To keep friction loss to a minimum and help the engine achieve the ideal performance characteristics, special compact roller-type rocker arms with needle bearings are used.

The combustion chamber shape was precisely engineered to direct the fuel air charge into the center of the piston for faster combustion and maximum power. Ceramic-composite-plated cylinders provide excellent heat dissipation and reduced oil consumption.

High-quality forged aluminum pistons have a lightweight, high-strength compact design that contributes to reduce vibration.

The designers realized that engine’s V twin character was so pleasing on its own that a counterbalancer was unnecessary. This also contributes to simplicity and less operating noise.

Sophisticated fuel injection is used on the V Star 950. The injectors are 4-hole, two-directional types with spray aimed at the valve surfaces. That produces good fuel atomization for faster and more complete combustion which contributes to excellent drivability. The fuel injection system also adopts an ISC (Idling Speed Control) valve for outstanding idling stability.

Lubrication is provided by a simple, reliable wet sump system

The bike or the rider. :cheeky:

but finally, a cruiser below 1000cc so it won't blow your pockets. Hope HL will bring it in. But then I have to say the pipes STILL look ugly. But I guess Yamaha Star Motorcycles ideaolgy is for everyone to custom it so they left it that way. Twin straight pipes will make it look sleek.

Yes you are right bro...I just wished that Yamaha would change their exhaust pipes something like what they did with the Raider....That's an awesome bike but according to HLC, they won't bring in the Raider into Singapore, reason is, specs are different and if it's not out in the Euro market, we won't be able to get it as our specs are similar to Euro specs...That's why the Roadliner when USA changed their specs into Euro specs, it's called the MidnightStar....And so far, i only know of one guy who imported the Raider through MAH but paid and rode it back to Thailand....So, in the stretch of Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, only one Raider so far.....YAMAHA STAR BIKES updates.....

I must saw this touring version makes it look a bit like the rocket III

Ya eh!!! Quite similar from this angle huh???......

Don't think HLC will bring it in yet coz in their showroom the dragstar classics and midnightstar 1300cc still not no takers yet...so it might be some time later next year...Also the new V-Max looks like it's goign to be a white elephant due to the cost....Now that's a lot of inventory to think about huh....

Love the swept-back handle bars and the long, thin fuel tank. Makes it look like a sleeker version of the Raider. V bad-ass bike. Going up against the Kawasaki 900 Custom, I guess.

Wonder how much it will retail for in Singapore, if HL decides to bring it in? US$8k in the States, so perhaps S$16k here after all the taxes and COE? Think it will fill a nice demand for those not caught up in the displacement wars. Yamaha has lots of cruisers in the 1500cc and above category - Raider, Warrior, Roadliner/Midnight Star - but only 1 in between 400cc and 1500cc (they still have the 1100 but I think they don't sell it here, right?)

The swept-back handlebar can be done for your bike too bro but you've got to buy in an aftermarket handlebar lah bro....

Well, sincerely, i still believe that HLC is piled up with it's present stocks of the dragstars, midnightstar 1300 and the latest V-Max...So, they might bring this 950 in sometime mid or end of next year...and that's maybe....Coz, this model is out in the European market, so a high possibility...Not like the Raider....But as for the pricing, i think it'll be closer to S$20K...Just a wild guess lah bro...hehehehehe....

Cruiser not so popular in Singapore.

I think this 950 is nice...the belt drive is cool in a Harley sort of design.

It is a pity that Vmax has priced itself out of my pocket budget. If the machine price can be $28k...or OTR $30K+.

Haiz....

Well it could have been the price that you wanted but as it is with all buyers and riders, we can never get exactly what we want...Maybe if you wait a little bit longer, the price might go down just like the MT01...maybe...

As for the MidnightStar 950...It is a very nice addition to the Star family and looking at the design, it fits our City lifestyle perfectly well...I also believe the price is way affordable compared to the VMax...but also have to justify the CC lah bro, hehehehe....

another thing i like abt the new line of Star motorcycles r its weight.

This 950 weighs 612lbs => 278kg only

Midnite Star 1900 => 340kg

2009 vmax => 310kg

as compared to Honda VTX1300 => 340kg

VTX1800N 804LBS => 365kg

Nowadays with so many gigantic cruisers around, even 950cc seems like a 'small' cruiser.

Too bad our local tax and insurance favours smaller CC. If insurance were to charge by horsepower or power-weight ratio (like some countries do), then even the XV1900 will have cheaper insurance than an R6.

Now wouldn't that be nice!

Hey there bro, your question a little bit out lah...If HLC don't bring it in, then you don't have to worry about any maintenance...But if HLC do bring it in, then you also won't have to worry about the maintenance...That's because Yamaha bikes, although for the new STAR models are fuel injected and belt driven, it's as easy to maintain as any other Japanese bikes...

Take it from me bro...Cheers...And lastly, it's cost effective too...hehehehe

wat i meant bro was like if the authorised agent din bring it in... and u manage to get one imported.... then hows is one gonna settle the after sale servicing.

not sure if that was the case with the royalstar... but sicnes thats carb.... the knowledge is still relatively transferable...... but with efi and all that.... hmmm if the tuning of the bike ever goes off..... where to find the tools and skills to solve that......

would love to see more sub 1000cc cruiser in singapore man...... nice big presence with more afforadable running cost......

Well, I do believe that HLC are open to have it serviced even though it's imported...Because, there was a Yamaha Warrior that was imported in by Mah, well, it's the only one here in Singapore and the owner moved to Thailand bringing it with him though,...anyway, back to the point, HLC did service that Warrior...

So, even if you get this bike via parallel import, say Mah, HLC will definitely allow you to bring it over for any servicing...Bro, these are down times and if there is monies to be made, there shouldn't be any problem bro...So, i'm hoping to see this new MidnightStar 950cc on the road soon ya, hehehehe...

Like it but will be better with the conventional headlights.

Saw a Intruder 1800 new on road. Also nice bike but will look better with the conventional headlights. I dunno why but for me i hate these new style headlights it just spoil the look.
