The GSX1400 paint scheme turns out well on our impulse, was quoted $320 to paint this design, $280 if dismantle the parts yourself (still considering)

Our impulse not so retro(uncle look) anymore with the correct paint scheme and exhaust.:cheer:

Cool.. I tink this paint scheme make the impulse look more modern.

Mine is on the 97 scheme, also red/black theme but kinda ah peh aka retro look, which i really like.

Hi all impulse riders,

i've also just gotten an impulse and lovely it!

would like to find out a few things from u guys:

where can i buy a 3 point crash bar from?

i would like to replace the meter, but maybe a 2nd hand 1, where can i find 1?

r there any after market pipe tt the impulse can use?

Posted

My rear shocks feel really soft. With a pillion, the underside will touch taller road humps like the ones in the carpark of Bugis Junction. Prob need to get it serviced or changed.

Bros, any suggestions?

I have tried to experiment with various setting, result as follow

1.5turn out its too lean, bike cannot idle properly, and the exhaust fume has a burning smell(lean), rev meter is sticky (rev needle come down very slowly to idling speed) when rev at idle.

3.5 (original setting) turns out, exhaust fume can smell incombustible petrol (rich), rev meter needle dip below ilding speed when rev at idle.

2.5 turns out, work nicely for my bike, bike idle smoothly, the rev meter needle is responsive, the needle rise and dip to the idling speed instantaneously. And the exhaust fume smells just right

.

Thanks for sharing. Can consider using this particular setting on my next carb tune & sync.

Its been a almost 3 years with the bike. Though alittle short of torque when riding 2 up, still it serves the role of a workhorse very reliably even after 160k kms. Returns an average of 27km/l on Caltex 98 in city riding mostly. Everything in good running order.

As Manjan-Bhai mentioned, i do agree that 2 up, the rear suspension feels inadequetely soft and will consider to install beefier springs to harden it in the near future. Replacement of the clutch friction plates is in consideration, esp since my wife is very confident riding this bike and she likes keeping it for the longer term.

To share some of my experience, the shaft that holds the front wheels to the fork has a tendency to warp slightly after some use, causing a slight front wheel wobble. Had that replaced on 2 occasions already as it could compromise safety. Might be that it was not properly tightened before.

Ride safe everyone.

There is a suspension specialist located at Serangoon area, whom can repair suspension and shocks. However I have never tried his service before so I can't give you any feedback. Alternatively I think can use Super4 suspension, can be found from scrap yard.

Crash bar can be fabricated at Seng Kwang located at AMK autopoint fifth level, price is higher than prefabricated one because the quality is superior and its customized to fit your bike.

The meter can be bought from scrap yard, location I forget, call this number and look for Ah Ahnn, 96256549. If you are buying a used meter can I buy your old meter covers because mine is scratch when I skidded on oil patch.

After market pipe can used Superfour exhaust (micro, arrow, yoshimura etc), but need to fabricate the mounting adaptor(3 screws) , was quoted $220 to fabricate a new mid pipe with mounting adaptor by SK so you can keep your original exhaust for inspection.

I have no issue with the wheel shaft, the last time I replace was the front wheel bearing which is causing vibration on the handle bar. I am also keeping the bike for transport and SBF outing since the resale value is low, and may renew for another 10 years if the COE is low, hence I am now keeping bay not to splurge so much on the bike, fix only when its broken.

That place u mention of is prob Teck Thye.

Its my opinion that the servicing standards wise is up to par, if you can take the attitude & relatively higher labour costs.

Ride safe, esp these couple of days. La Nina at work.

I experienced the same thing too with pillion. Always ride slowly before the hump.

mine is scratch when I skidded on oil patch.

The bike tend to skid a bit on oil patch when apply break while parking. Perhaps because the front brake is very powerful. Hence I always avoid parking on oil patched ground.

Yup. I bought it few months back. The bike is great and worth the price. Seller bought a CB750 after selling it and is very friendly - let me test ride a few times to proof the bike excellent condition.

I dismantled my box when i got the bike 2 yrs back. Thinking of putting it back on again. A 2nd hand magnetic tank bag (viper) has always worked well for me.

Just that im considering to invest in a good flip-up helmet. dont want to carry around plus not comfortable to leave it on the bike. Getting the box back on the bike might be the only option.

I sold my wingrack and box, but put another box again to keep my helmet when my helmet was sabotage.

This design is great and true to Suzuki roots with the white blue paint scheme. However, i hate white rims.. damn hard to maintain.

Just changed the rear brake pad ($35) at Guan Hoe, Autobay.

Have ordered gear shaft oil seal for changing on next week, hope can resolve the slight oil leakage issue.

Found in this thread that omen662002 owned my impulse before.

The boss and lady at Guan Hoe seemed to be the old friend of my impulse, mentioned about the previous owner, hehe..

I dislike the cleaning of rims, hence my rims will remain as it is only the body work will respray.

Some tips on the carb air/fuel mixture screw setting

The best setting so far is 2 and 5/6 turns out.

I have set the initial setting from 3.5 turns out to 2.5 turns out when I first got my bike, the FC improves to approx 270-280km till reserve, before was 220km. This is because the mixture screw has an effect from idling to 4k rpm.

At 2.5 turns out, although it improves the FC but when starting from cold, the bike needs alot of time to warm up, approx 10-15mins, before it can be ride off else the engine will choke. And the idling speed need to set higher to compensate but when the bike warms up the rpm becomes too high @ 1400rpm

At 3 turns out, when blipping, the rev needle will swing and then dip below the idle speed, this happen because the fuel mixture is too rich and it choke the engine. You will hear the engine sound soften for a sudden then becomes normal.

At 2 and 5/6 turns out, the idling speed at cold is 1000 rpm when warm up its 1200rpm. The rev needle swing and dip back to the idle speed. The engine noise is softer compare to 2.5turn out because the idling speed was lower at 1200rpm vs 1400rpm when warm up. The warm up time is faster without the engine choking from cold start.

Another tip to share is the front tire pressure, the perfect setting is 29psi, anything more than that the front wheel will wobble. For rear tire pressure, I pump to 33psi for solo riding. If you pillion often pump it to 36psi.
