Seriously i dun tink the skid plate will help on anything accept going down curbs for local road riding...i knock and scratched my exhaust while going off a curb in orchard...

although it did reduce the clearance by abit, i see it as a protection when going up/down curbs, off-road, MOST IMPORTANT (IMHO) protection for the oil-cooler!!!

that's why i'm getting one from Tank3e once it's ready.

actually why do u guys keep thinking of the skid plate as a cosmetic add-on?

the bash plate is use for bashing...........on rocky terrain to prevent and reduce sharp rocks from shafting up below. to cut your side stand wire brake line , drain plug oil filter and in order to go for those terrain in you definately need to increase clearence below by at least 3 inch.

 

 

so if u don't increase clearence to go "adventure" riding.....n just do city riding with a bash plate......it just posing niah....that's BMW style.....(sori papabread)

 

 

but if you increase the rear clearence without tuning the front suspension it will effect the balancing of the ride and losing of control will be a big thing.

 

Additional feature does help to protect the bike ...but it is only as useful as the rider who know the limitation about it and live within those limitation . like wearing a few thousand dollars worth of riding gear thinking that it would protect you and complacency sets in , injury and death follows.

 

Take papabrad for example , he rode to endow with the bash plate on...the results is a broken fork brace.... .(no offence bro just a case study)

 

IMHO

posing is not a bad idea..... it still make the bike look nice, no offend to anyone...just as long we match the reality to our expectation and be safe

that's e problem when u buy a BMW bike. u tink so hard to find a reason to buy additional stuffs, but can't tink of any coz its all already there.

Wah sian, cannot find a place to put the horns.

Think will have to go custom a bracket for it (great idea from Ano), but I think will have to wait for the skid plate.

I managed to place my horns by the side of the fairings with a custom L bracket.

I believe for Vee we already have the stock plastic plate... so not to worry bout the oil filter or so... but then the metal bash plate will does it job better...

 

For the 650, its highly recommended to get the bash plate though... i don think u feel secure seeing ur oil filter hanging just like that....

 

then again if u are the type of rider who goes ard SG only.. dont waste the money then hehe

 

BUT I was lucky to have the metal bashplate when this misfortunate happens to me... :cool:
