Parallel Import?

Hi guys,I would like to know the pros and cons of buying a PI(parallel import) car..And wat's the difference between a normal and a PI car...

Differences:

 

Normal Agent:

1) Warranty given to sales of cars (either 3yrs or certain miilage)

2) More freebies (Sensors or dvd player or others)

3) More reputated (C&C, Kah or Tan Chong), less conflict and disagreement

"More or less does things in black and white, promises or conditions are clear in black and white"

4) More secure or easier bank loan (because big company are trusted for their documentation) aka less shady

5) Can test drive your prefer model of car

6) Can garantee COE bidding

6) .... please add on, bro

 

P.I.

1) Able to acquire certain model unavailable thru agent eg. Airwave (honda) or Aillion (Toyota)

2) Less promise of freebies eg. you buy the car as it is from import country

3) Less warranty then agent

4) More shady business (many stories of bad P.I. were reported on forum before)

5) Less percentage chance of secure bank loan with inproper documentation

6) No garrantee COE, if COE suddenly high, you have to wait till P.I. does its job to acquire COE for your car

7) Cannot test drive as most car at P.I. are bought by someone

8) Certain model which is similar to Agent's model can be cheaper by 2k or less

The reasons for and against Authorised Distributors (AD), and Parallel Importers (PI) are far to many to list, and even that can't be agreed by all.

 

My advice is that if you are first time car buyer, stick with AD. Even if you could be paying slightly more, you won't lose sleep should anything happens.

Well, u can 1st time go buy from P.I. provided the following:

1) You know the P.I. very very well eg. relatives or close buddy

2) Very very well recommended P.I. from tons of ppl

3) Bring with you a fren who is knows the industry very very well (I also dun recommend this).

if you buying normal car then go AD loh, if u looking at something special which AD does not brings in then get it from PI. Not much difference, depends which salesman you kena nia. penknife or chopper
