Hi Demon,

Is v3.02 already released for download? I checked the Wiki and the latest I could get was v2.27. Thanks.

I am not sure how the malsing maps are serialised.

The v3.02 is dated Jan 208 is named as "malsing v3.02" based on v2.15 maps.

v2.17 is a "locked" map and is dated Apr 2008 and named as "GM-Malaysia/Singapore v2.27"

the v2.17 is definitely more current than the v3.02 :giddy:

:)

Two ways.

If you have Mapsource installed, with GPS connected :

UTILITIES > GET UNIT ID

Otherwise, from your unit :

Page button(top right) to Main Menu, Setup, System, Menu button(bottom left), Software Version.

Before that, check at the battery compartment, there could be a sticker showing the unit ID.

I have the Zumo. It's very easy to use once you manage to download malsingmaps into it.

I've only one gripe though, it seems to take quite a long time to detect for satellites. Like 2 mins or so. I've seen a TomTom at work overseas, and it takes only 30 seconds or so.

Hi there,

I am using the ZUMO as well and i do not have any problems with connecting to the satellites.

I have encounter slower connecting speed when i am in a crowded area (tall buildings and such) but in the open.... it takes only a few seconds to acquire the Satellites!!

I got my set a little cheaper than the prices quoted here in Singapore.

I probably did not look hard enough! Best price i got here in Singapore for the ZUMO 550 is SGD1255.

The cheapest prices are those acquired online and from the States!! Only thin gis that if there is any issues and you want to exercise youe warranty... the set have to be sent to the States.

I got mine from a distributor in JB! A little cheaper than in Singapore and some would say it is not worth the effort... but it did give me an excuse to ride.....lol

Do drop me a PM if you are keen..... remember the savings not gonna impress you too much!!!

Zumo is the flagship of the Garmin Automobile GPS. Of course it is highly recommended as long as you have $1.4k to spare.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend Tibo because there is no free map updates like malsing for Garmin. It's a matter of time, a GPS will become useless if there is no map support ie, updates.

From cold boot-up, it's not unusual to take 2mins to acquire the first fix. For hot boot-up (previously the GPS was used and shutdown, and subsequently restart in the same location). it will typically take less than 30 secs.

My mate's 450 takes like 20 sec to acquire the satelites. He uses it daily even in Singapore.

i tink any movement while acquiring satellites oso affect the time taken..... ie. take longer when moving.

coz a few times i on my gps n imediately ride off, it took more than 10min still no lock on.... then i stop by the expressway, within 20secs lock on liao

It depends on where you are. If open space your acquire time will be shorter, but within confine space like HDB carparks it'll take a while. Experience this on my streetpilot and GPSmap.

I recommend amazon. You save a lot of money buying it from the US. I saved about $400+.

yes, most of the time mine is cold boot. I think my timing is very close to what you described.

Yes this is true. I also noticed one very funny thing. Sometimes if I cannot get a lock for a few minutes, and with the power plugged in, I will switch off the set, then switch on again (it's very fast because I think they just switch off the LCD but the software is still running). Then within less than 10 seconds it'll get a lock. Very strange.
