Hey, we got the same Garmin Nuvi!

Murphy, can help me check if got mounts for ZZR1400 too? Thanks!

yes!

fyi, the medium wide aqua box from ramount fits the 205w which is waterproof and fits on to the ramount.

zzr ramount site has an fine example of a zzr14 who has his gps mounted in the steering column. have a look.

it is not because i have it n recommended to otehr ppl. I have been looking around reading reviews. and many other stuff. Would rather buy some brands and have a map issue. Map issue is as in u can't use malsing maps. u have to buy the map from the brand itself. why i say zumo is recommend is becos of the built is really meant for bikers. go see other brand and u will understand why liao.

My apologies then, Murphy. I was going through the earlier 30+ pages and I thought that you were thinking for quite a long time until you bought the Zumo... and recommending people to buy it after that. Maybe my eyes shoot bird, but I thought I remember only one person recommend Zumo (apart from the price) and that person was you. :cheeky:

I also blur between the nuvi and the Zumo... only NOW then I realized I made a consistent spelling mistake! Paiseh paiseh... Go to so many forums and I read until blur, confuse between the nuvi I had (passed to my brother in law) and the Zumo until I created the Zumi. :shy:

Yes, forgot to add that I'm a cyclist, not a motorbiker. However I joined these forums because some of my other friends were motorbike-siao, so I ended up looking here too :)

Yo Seh Suan,

By 'bikers', we mean motorcyclists, not cyclists. heh heh....

And tho I havent personally used a Zumo, I have read many reviews on them, and they do have good features for bikers.

Thanks for the enlightening post. Abit worrying if it's all true.

I can't afford a Zumo, so got an Oregon 300 instead.

Btw, do you still hit Coastal Road? If you see me on my white Pinarello Prince, just wave hi.

Wah biang eh Lawrence, "cannot afford Zumo" but can get a Prince?!?! Basket man you.... :sian:

Wow!!! I want that! Does anyone else want to mass order from this site? Can share shipping... :D I'm definitely getting it after CNY.

Sehz, before I make purchases, I have a rough budget to keep to. I had intended to spend up to S$400 for a GPS, and ended up buying the Oregon 300 for $700, which is way out of budget. Hence the Zumo would definitely be out of my league.

For my bicycle though, I was prepared to spend up to $10k. So getting a $6k Prince was really quite below budget. :cheeky:

By the way, Gong hei fatt choy to all!

Oregon 300 is only halfway to a Zumo, so don't feel so bad! haha.

Seriously, there are so many GPS devices, just gotta get one which fits your requirements. Anyway, I'll like to get that ram mount, so count me in if you're ordering!

I think even mass order price also no different. Shops in US are very strict. The only thing can save is the shipping.

Hi all,

was wondering, wouldn't just using a phone that has a gps capability be abt the same as using a gps devise?

Technology wise, a GPS is a GPS regardless it's a watch GPS, Phone GPS, or just a standalone GPS. A N series Nokia phone running on Garmin Mobile XT performs exactly like a Garmin Nuvi GPS.

Eventually, mobile phone GPS will surpass GPS that relies solely on celestial satellites for positioning. Assisted GPS, or A-GPS technology has already been developed which uses the mobile phone network to assist the GPS receiver so that you can still get a position even in a tunnel or a building.

Correct me if I am wrong, this handlebar doesn't look like stock, so it was specially bought so that a GPS unit can be mounted.

Rebuilding my dreams. But first, the gears

1) WP RS Taichi riding jacket

2) WP riding pants

3) Titanium riding gloves

4) Garmine Nuvi 550 GPS (US$259)

5) WP Komine riding boots

6) Arai Helmet

7) The BIKE of course! :cheeky:

If the Zumo doesn't work on bikes then got problem already...

The Nuvi 550 is a great buy, but its basically just a waterproof Nuvi. The Zumo is the one properly designed for motorcycle use.

Btw, nice exhaust! Thinking of getting that for my bike too. :D

hello guyz n galz.. happy chinese new year!!

i just came back from a trip to betong with my newly zumo 550.

Its a virgin trip for me to use a gps n its totally awesome.

Listen to the navigator n mp3 using bluetooth earpiece.

N have no problem with the screen when at night and day.

On the way back, it was raining quite heavily and yess,...

its really water resistant..

Zumo ROCKS!!! :thumb:

may i know what type of bluetooth earphones did you use that can fit nicely under your helmet?

i'm using sony ericsson bluetooth earpiece n its also connected to my handphone.. so i can switch to my handphone mp3 as and when during the ride. but frankly, the sound won't be that clear when i used it to listen to the mp3 and navigator. a loud windy sound can be heard when ever the navigator prompts. If u wanna use bluetooth earpiece oni for mp3, guess its best to get the one oni meant for listening to music. so tat the wind does not interfere which i believed due to the mouth piece.

I also tried using the normal wired earpiece. a bit better then the bluetooth earpiece tat i'm using.

this is a tricky one.

i contemplated abt a bluetooth gps for awhile.

the hassle of fitting it under your helmet for long hours is one issue

the other is when touring at about 160-180, there is quite abit of wind noise in the helmet.

i have tried various brands from shoei, arai to agv. some models are just slightly less noisy. ipod, creative or samsung mp3 players with normal earphones to in ear bud styles to noise cancelling ones, at max volume, it just doesnt cut it. the music starts to become background music in the wind.

i have not tried the zumo directing music thru bluetooth.

does it work well at higher touring speeds?

but i believe, at city speed limits, the navigation can be clearly heard thru the bluetooth, but personally, i wont be borthered to check if my earphones have sufficient batteries, pairing my earphones to the zumo, trying to get them to fit under my helmet then taking a 15min ride.
