The info you gave is rather limited.

What qualifications do you have and which specific area you want to venture into?

Mechanical/ Sales...etc

till now I'm having ITC in electronics engineering, venturing into something technical?

Oh hi.. congrats you graduated?

The job market is very bad lately. Automotive line hit severely.

C&C is employing

http://www.jcclgroup.com/careervacanciessmo.asp

Alternatively, you can try CDGE, SBS, SMRT, Sime Darby(PML, AF etc...), VW Singapore, wearnes automotive, Eurokars group, Scania (expanding rapidly in Singapore) etc.

With the downturn of passenger car industry in singapore, you may want to consider starting from commercial vehicles. Regardless is there any posting in the web. Some may employ via an agency. So just send in your resume. But don't expect a good pay since you just started out as the lowest form of all technical personnel.

You can try. Like I've said before start with some big local workshops. Learn the ropes from the ground and accumulate actual hands on technical experience. Then also upgrade yourself academically while you gain your foothold on practical hands on experience. Don't stay a technician all your life. Upgrade, get a foreman post/Tech offr post before going for managerial.

And carve a career with an overseas MNC. Large local workshops like CDGE will not go far unless you have paper qualifications. Sad to say, to them, it is fine to be a technical moron (it doesn't matter to them even if they have no knowledge on their product) as long as you have a paper to sit on top. Go mechatronics. Be multi trained. Don't stay as an electronic technician. To the current workshops, pure breed technicians do not worth as much as mixed breed (VM+VE). You may need to become a specialist in a certain system in time to come. eg. steering specialist, gearbox specialist etc. But don't confine your capabilities to your specialization. Don't be only trained on passenger cars or mtorcycles. Be trained in all vehicles including commercial vehicles like large buses and lorries to stay versatile and competitive.

And lastly, good luck to all your interviews.

Hi MS, do you still remember me? We did exchange some PM before in the past. You back from oversea?

Yup I have graduate from my ITC, currently half way through my diploma another year to go. So you're saying despite my qualification I still have chance in this field? From your understanding how would the career path of this line be? How much time should I gave myself in learning in this area?

Yeah... back and gone and back and gone and back already. My next scheduled flight is still being planned. So no flights at the moment.

Yes, even with a diploma, you have a future in the automotive industry. But being in the automotive line, especially technical aspect, you need to keep upgrading. The things you learnt last year may well be obselete in the next year. Also, you have to understand that 'automotive' means everything that runs on the road is considered as automotive. Bus, trucks, lorries, motorcycles, cars, racecars, tracked vehicles and so on. Knowing only on one will not get you anywhere. Don't stay in a local automotive engineering company. It will get you no where. Go global. This way, even during recession, having being able to know all types of vehicles, you are able to follow the economical climate shift. In the next year, we will start experiencing a lot of shift towards after market parts rather than OE supplies. The car builders will also experience much climate shift and many builders may seize to exist or change hands and new powers will arise in the next 24 months.

Be versatile and change as the time arises. Being competent is very important. The cert is only a licence to start from a certain position. But if you are to survive in this industry, being technically inclined is of utmost importance. That's why you see those imbeciles who stay in the industry because of their cert being stuck and unmovable. No companies in the same industry want to employ them. Go to SBS and you can find many of such people. In terms of time frame, I really don't know about you because I've never worked with you. But I think you can consider yourself having achieved something when you're in the management or specialist level by the age of 35.

And good luck to your diploma.

Yeah. Once your reputation is built up, you should be able to shift from one company to another.

Yes heard about Delphi. They are one of the largest auto suppliers in the world. But recently I heard they are experiencing some financial problems. Not sure how true is it.
