A friend of mine got a FZ6 at ASPhoon, cheaper than a Super4 Revo.

A newer version of FZ6? I think you meant XJ6 N / Diversion.

Don't tell me you wanna downgrade all the way to a 600cc?:(

VMAX 17? Woah, that's a monster.

What abt FJR 1300? MT-01?

Didnt check those out?

I am actually lookng for a little off-road capabilty, like VStrom, Varadero, BMW GS....

FZ1-S, FZ6-S will fit that I guess.

TDM900, twin also can lah. Love the twin rumble.sweet sound

Cheers

hard to start, meaning?

handstart & it goes cranking without starting? BUT will start thereafter?

1. tried the choke?

2. check batteries?

3. any blockage at the air filters's funnel(underneath the seat, above the battery)?

4. checked fuel ****/switch?

4a. checked fuel line/hose/ flow is normal eg fuel can flow downards?

4b. check carbs for overflowing?

5. service the carbs & retune?

Hope these may help.

hey Ras,

hard to start means the electric starter is ON but the engine won't start, the battery is fine.

I followed your solutions step by step.

everything is OK now..i also use an old trick named "DORONG"...hehehe :thumb:

the problem lies on the fuel valve on the tank and the dirty filter..

Hi guys!

I wanna ask whether is it normal for the XJR400 rear brake to totally lose its hydraulic pressure if the brake gets too hot. It is because at, CDC my XJR400, both different bikes on different occasions, i totally lost the rear brake after some time when it gets too hot. The instructors say that it is the disign of the brake itself. I have to wait for it to cool down before i get control of my rear brake again. Is this normal?

Thanks guys. :)

I believe this is the same with all bikes when the brakes are too hot, the brake fluid kind of vaporised which resulted in no brake fluid.

Something like that lah.....

Is this true? My YBR front disc brake never happened before. Anyway, on the XJR400 at CDC, i find that it happens WAY TOO FAST. Damn dangerous sia. I suddenly have ZERO rear brake control at all! The brake can go in all the way but NOTHING! Can imagine if wanna e-brake then rear brake gone? Is this common for XJR400 or other bigger bikes as well?

Funny you should say that.

Cuz I'm riding an XJR myself & I've never had any problem with my rear brakes.

Maybe other XJRers can have a say here.

Btw, funny signature u have there about magical penguins.:thumb:

For the record, I used to ride on a YBR. :)

Out of curiosity, what 2A bike seems to be on ur mind?

I did wanna get an XJR400 before in the future because firstly, its a Yammie and secondly, its air-cooled. But i'm not sure whether the CDC XJR400 is doing it justice. Had a really bad experience with them. Probably the worst bike i ever tried.

Then again, they were "raped" bikes. But the issue with the rear brakes being totally gone for a brief moment was and still is a very scary thought for me. Damn scary, i was gonna do e-brake then i realised i got no rear brake suddenly. Then instructor ask me wait for a while. I wait 5 mins, then got brake again. Imagine on the real road where got time to brake?

Scary. Happened to me more than once on different bikes. Need superman foot strength to change gears. Then need to rev-rev the engine to find neutral. Hmm...

Let's not be hasty here.

So far with my XJR, I've not encounter a problem that I can't seem to handle.

I'm on my XJR most of the time, if not everyday.

& with the current monsoon season, I've rode on rainy days and my brakes served me well so far.

To a huge extent, I believe there's a difference between CDC's XJRs and a personal one.

I believe its a huge difference. But being air-cooled, doesnt it get very hot? My foot was hot from being under the engine.

And any idea why Yamaha stop producing XJR400s?

it gets as hot as a super4 can get as far as i know. It doesnt make much difference for me. but having my XJR for close to 4years, i can say that my engine have never overheated eventhough i get stuck in jams often. I love the fact that i dun to have to worry about any coolant problems.

Yamaha still produce XJR1300 basically becoz the 400 has no demand for it, even in UK or Japan. but the big brother 1300 have a better demand.

Wah sian!

Used the CDC bike again today. While waiting at the narrow plank, i could hear and feel my engine making "tak tak" sounds. The rpm went down and back again with each "tak". The needle was very responsive.

Anyway, idling kept going down. In the end, i went back ask the mech how to adjust idling. He also putting his finger dunno where. Then he ask me change bike.

Just curious. Where is the idling screw of the XJR400? :p

No comparisons can be made especially in this case when the bike in discussion is used by public for learning. So sub par performance and overall quality is exceptionally compromised.

I never had any braking problems nor encountered 'tak tak' sounds that affects the rpm. The only 'tak tak' sound I've heard is from the oil pump, pretty much that's it I guess.

Everyone here will tell you that it's a wonderful bike, one for the keeping.

And as for the idle screws, there are in total four carbs so one will have to remove the tank to access it. You know the mechanic is full of **** when he puts his hands in and without removing the tank, goes on to you to change bike. More so when you need screw drivers to assist you in tuning.

BULL: I'm on TBC for Martin's meet up.

Haha. Thanks bro! The mech was digging his fingers in 3 parts for nothing. Oh well.

Regarding parts, is it easy to find any XJR parts lying around? As in if spoil easy to find replacement?

In total, there are 4 spark plugs, 3L EO and just change oil filter? That is the only maintenance you'll ever need?

Nah, parts are not that scarce as most people would believe. Plus side is most parts can be used different by makes, an example would be the oil filter that I'm using which is honda.

You got everything right, except it's only two litres of EO and no coolant required, so that means more ching ching.

Join the XJR group when you can, the team will be more than happy to overdose you with information.

Roughly 2.5L of EO needed with Oil Filter change.

Without, would be just 2L.

It would be nice to see a potential XJRer soon on the road. :)
