Hi everyone,

its me again and its about the vibration again. its getting worst...

i plan to do running in till 3000km

i did another oil change at 1500km and guess what?

the vibration from the engine got worst... :sian:

I can feel the vibration on my handle bar and foot rest.

The vibration comes at around 5000rpm.

Tried to go higher, to 6000rpm but the noise and vibration is still there.

did any XJRiders met up with the same problem?

I went to the bike shop and the mech told me that I need to

trottle more than usual... then his other customers starts to

comment about going higher in the rpm when changing gear...

I usually change my gear at 5000 rpm but dunno why still like

tat... could anyone comment or help me on this?

FYI: my previous engine oil is Rallye (mineral base)

now changed to Shell Advance (Mineral based too)

I tried Rallye's engine oil b4...suxs man.

Shell Advance really not a good brand for engine oil....pay so much yet an average oil.

Give the Elf DXi mineral based engine oil.....I find it extremely good for run-in period.....You can feel ur bike so quiet, so smooth.....

Btw, for gear 1 to 2, I change at abt 2.5 to 3k rpm.

For gear 2 to 3, I change at abt 3 - 4k rpm.

For gear 3 and onwards, it depends on road condition/mood, etc....but I normally change at

no worries u still running in

from wat i encounter also same when using mineral oil

after that changed to fully syn it got better abit

now i using semi syn the noise and vibration also big compare to s4?

then i did valve clearance at 16k mileage lidat then got better abit

but now after around 2k of usage its back to the same again :p

so wat i think is as long as u do ur regular service and carbon clearing :p

it should be fine

u can try changing the heavier balancer also which may absorb? the vibration abit only

shini, I find the same wif Motul 5100 engine oil...suxs big time...hate that feeling it gives on my bike, and the Elf DXi 20W50 I used was even better than the Motul 5100.

Now using Motul 300V, dun like the feel oso. The Rock Oil I used was better than this Motul 300V at certain aspect, but lose out on other aspect.

I will be trying Elf XT 10W50 next...with K&N Oil Filter in.....Let's see what difference will it create. Kekeke.....as usual wif a new bike, I like to try all oils and feel which is really good.

Key factor to me is: Must give above average performance, good mileage and reasonably priced.

End result I will update here, juz for pple to consider, not say what I recommend must follow....kekeke.

Give Elf DXi 20W50 Mineral Based engine oil a try when u r running in with a XJR.....see if u like the feel.

I went to Motor Sport @ Ubi to ask for a change to your recommendation.

Unforunately, out of all the lub that they have, they just dun have 20W50

in their shop, have to take from their other shops.

the mech insisted on changing to the Semi Syn 10W40 for my bike.

but i stopped him a few times and told him that if he can get the oil in

time, I will return the next day.

chaicka> is $15 reasonable for the 10W40?

i dunno the cost for the 20W50. hope can provide some feedbacks

Dun use Elf 10W40, it suxs juz like the Motul 5100 too.

The Elf 20W50 is DXi, cost should be abt $10. The Elf 10W40 should be cheaper than $15 if I recall correctly, but dun use that.

Were u at Changi market again on Saturday? Saw 971 there...think should be urs right....kekeke.

If u dun mind the distance, u can go to our Ah Koon to change, price reasonable...and furthermore, I am slowly working out with him to get him to become expert on XJR400R too....kekeke. If he can have more customer with XJR400R, he can get different feedback from more pple, and it will help him analyse and be more farmiliar with this bike rather than me alone feeding him with information, feel, etc.

I will be going down to change to Elf 10W50 and see the outcome either today (raining leh) or tomorrow. Let's keep our finger cross that the Elf 10W50 performs well on XJR400R juz like it performed well for my Phantom.

Hahahaha, thats me 971

Where did u park? I started the ball rolling by parking there

Ended up leaving the place at around 1:30am all thanks to the heavy rain.

I changed the motor oil at Motor Sport (Chong Aik) Ubi

$10 per litre, quite ok

Confirm the transistion is better than using Shell Advance oil.

Much smoother but still can feel the vibration... Maybe something

wrong with my piston or what... My next oil change @ 3000km, see hows

test result from you then....

I love to ride my bicycle, I love to ride my bike.

Hmmm...I change my oil every 500km for initial run-in stage, then every 700km. Now still testing every single popular engine oil to find one that I find good.....so I am still changing at abt every 700-900km coz the oil I tested seems to cannot make it longer than that...start to feel sluggish once it hit 700km. Motul 300V was the only one that I stayed until 900km...coz want to see if wat others told me - motul 300v works better after extended mileage....which my personal opinion - all bullshit, it lowered my mile/litre and gave me sluggish performance and not to mention micro-vibration whenever I revv pass 6k rpm.

Juz got Elf 10W50 Fully Sync in yesterday. I would say, the initial feel not too bad...but maybe becoz it's new oil. Will monitor for the next 700km or more then can have conclusion.

'96 XJR should have the following features if it's still stock condition:

1. Tapered Exhaust, not the straight type in newer versions

2. Non-digital speedo, not the digital ODO, Trips, etc meter in newer versions

3. Brake caliper - Brembo, not the sumitumo calipers in newer versions

4. Engine Chasis in chrome or metal color, not the black in newer versions

5. Tail looks

Engine wise, not sure of the difference though.

He probably just extended his coe this year, hence new due date is extended to 2013. His old coe value should have been forfeited.

Pay attention to the exhust, that is a Tapered exhust...

Which is different from the newer models of XJR u seen on the road.

Below are 2 pics of a modified bike. It was a site which was posted here last time in this thread. Anyway, I visited the site and realized that this was actually a old 95 XJR400R. Note that the tail, side panels have been changed to the new model type.... this is the mod (except for the double pipe)which I am trying to do...

Wonder how much would this mod cost...???

Price is not important. Be prepared to pay a S$500 fine if u r caught wif the modded exhaust.

I am looking some parts regarding a XJR 400 old model type - the exhaust (cause it kanna scratched deeply), the 2 side plates (XJR word gone), and a right engine oil filter cover (kanna scratched also). Anyone knows where to find these stuffs and how much is it?

Posted

Need help - should I buy a xjr400r of about 7 years olds (left 3 years of COE) selling for under 3k? or under 2.5k? The model is the old type, condition seems ok. Is age really a factor here, since the bike is still within its first 10 years...???
