Dunno how long more to wait for the FX plate...damn...sianz...

This mth(jun) is 8xxx, july is (9xxx) so the aug COE exercise will have FX ready....

Unless u are impatient.....bid an FX plate then can already....but its 1K + prevailing COE rate.......

Somthing intersting that transpired when i was @ HL doing my 3k servicing, apparently all the mechanics who ride a class 2A ride a S4.

So out of curosity i asked them wat about the XJR then, surely it isnt that bad considering u guys work for Yamaha, his answer was brutally honest...

"XJR sucks, so heavy, no power, air cooled.... S4 much better, spares so easy to find n cheap." .....hmmmm

Jus a HL mechanic perspective of the XJR i'd like to share.... Anyway personal preferences & viewpoints are highly subjective, as they say one's man meat is another man's posion.

FYI, FW9xxx is oredi out...this week. If not wrong, FW94xx is out as of today.....So FX should be soon....kekeke.

Yes, if u wanna compare power, S4 has better acceleration once the vtec kicks in...but fuel consumption is much higher when vtec kicks in. For me, I like smooth gentle bikes...top speed no need so fast...FYI, XJR can still reach 180+km/h, juz slower to accelerate to that speed than S4. Anyway, each has its own pros and cons....

Hahaha...I will be slowly building up my XJR once I get it...and I will import parts and peripherals directly from Japan...

Already compiled a list of items that I will be importing...

Take note: Those items I will be importing is not to mod the bike for faster speed or power boost, but to enhance safety and preventive measures...example: oil temp gauge for the cooler in front.

 One advise to all owners... don't put on so many accessories unless you are sure that the bike will be with you for quite a while. meaning a few years at least. Otherwise, do the necessary like crash bar and top box.

However, if you are a rich person, good for you and go ahead. :bounce:

Thks for advice.....

XJR is really for keep this time....

Oh...top box wun even be considered....at most side box during touring trips, else dun intend to put a box...so ugly.

Things I have in mind are:

1. Crash Bar + Frame Slider

2. Oil Temp Gauge

3. Voltage Meter

4. Wind Shield

5. .........

6. .........

The rest all secret liaoz...wanna be the unique XJR in Singapore...now sourcing as unique parts from japan as possible.....

Chaika,

Guess top box is not necessarily a priority for everybody. Diff people have diff preferences. Anyway, on the oil subject, i like to share my experience. I used shell mineral oil for the first 2 servicing which were FOC from HL. However when i went back the third time (pay this time), i changed the oil to shell synthetic. Oh boy! the bike feels good now.. i can feel the smoothness. Then again, it's me.

So u mean run-in dun use mineral-based engine oil?

Thought of slow speed of 60 use mineral-base engine oil to run-in...so wat u recommend? Use semi-sync right away?

I’m not saying whether running in should or should not use mineral oil. I’m just sharing my experience on the effect that my bike has after I used both mineral and synthetic oil. It is a practise by Hong Leong (HL) that they will give the newly purchased bike twice free servicing. As such, during both FOC servicing, HL used shell mineral oil.

However, when I went back the third time about 8000km, I got them to change the engine oil to fully synthetic oil. That’s when I felt that my bike sort of performed better and I can really feel the smoothness of the acceleration.

Then again, as I said… it’s my bike and that’s how I felt after the servicing.

Pardon me, guess I dun get the point...

U are saying the first 2 x mineral oil used contributed to the smoothness of the engine later on, or u are saying the fully-sync oil is better?

Pardon me for asking so much...

1. How much mileage per engine oil change during run-in?

2. Shell mineral engine oil, there is only 1 type? If not, can be more specific as of which mineral oil they used?

Chaicka,

No worries on asking much questions. We learn from each other. Anyway, back to the point..

During the first 2 FOC servicing at HL, Shell mineral oil was used to service my bike. I did not ask for it to be changed into fully synthetic oil because I had to top up the difference if I wish to do so. But when I went back the 3rd time, I got them to change it to fully synthetic because the difference of both oil was $20. It was after the 3rd servicing that I felt my bike performs better and smoother.

In short, to me, I felt fully synthetic oil suits the bike better. Not only it’s smoother, it also reduced the engine heat better than mineral oil. I find it particularly good on the bike because the cooling system of the bike depends on the engine oil. Therefore, the better the oil, the lesser the heat you will get at your thigh.

The first servicing is at 1000km whilst the second is at 3000km. I can’t help with the type of oil because I basically just let the mechanic at HL do the servicing. Your rpm should be kept below 5000 during the first 1000km. There after, you can increase it bit by bit. Maybe 6000 the most for another 1000km. But I guess it would be better for the engine if you break in gently. Individual preference.

Well, thanks...never run-in a big bike b4...so wondering if bigger bike run-in the same as smaller bikers...

Hmm...I was wondering. Mineral oil dun perform as well as synthetic ones, but then, during initial 1 to 2 run-in, it is always recommended to use minerals cause it gives maximum protection/lubrication and the engine is at its high wear and tear period....

If from the very start use full-sync, I bet the engine wun have been as smooth as it is now. The 2 times mineral oil used could have conditioned the engine, thus when u use the fully sync, the true performance finally unleashed.....

That's how I feel...

But last week i when for my first servicing and the lady in the office told me that they will charge mineral oil at $8/L leh... And i realised that the warranty booklet says FREE SERVICING.. with fine prints "This coupon entitles you to FREE ADJUSTMENT and Lub svc. Oil, grease and other materials supplied are chargeable"

So need to pay anot????? :pity: :?
