Problem was resolved after changing out the worn down Variator unit. Performance mis-match.

Do note that after changing the clutch unit, sometime you will still experience clutch slip issue but this is easily fix by changing the spring in the clutch to one that should your bike.

Lesson learnt - it's better to change the clutch, speed bell, Variator and belt at the same time.

Patience is a Virtue.

Welcome to the Aprilia scooters!

Good to see that you've got used to it already, and that you're enjoying it! Have you added a top box?

He who hesitates is lost!

Yes, added a givi box, and made the back rest bigger for better comfort. hehehe....

Hello All, I'm new to the forums. Been using my AA200 for a year already since Jan07. Bought it 2nd hand FX plate back then. Had a problem with my steering cone so had it replaced then for $220. Heard that X9 cones go at about $160-170. Runner steering cones even cheaper $110. Just some info for some people who are considering getting a AA200. Items that i have replaced and cost of each item.

1. Steering cone - $220 (rumoured to last only 1.5 to 2 years)

2. Belt every 12,000km (I've met some riders who change at 20,000km, must be very gentle riders) - $120

3. Throttle grip and assembly (accidentally broke it, itchy hand) - $40

4. Throttle cable (decided to get it changed due to age) - $80

Average fuel consumption in city/urban mix is 27-29km/L for me with 40% pillion rider on board. If i am alone all the way i can mantain 29km/L in Singapore. Within the year of owning the bike i have been up to Penang once with pilion and just recently up to thai border Bkt Kayu Hitam and back (7th Jan, alone). Did not manage to cross to thai border cause solo rider, abit scared.

On the way back found out that i worn out, fried my clutch but i guess it was almost time anyway. My friend reckons its a little pre-mature at 46,000Km. Got the clutch and bell replaced after my trip and rollers too (all aftermarket), which were flat on one side after mantaining 130-140km/h all the way thru my trip. Heard the aftermarket ones are servicable (clutch) and should last a little longer. (Pollini)

1. Clutch and bell -$280 - Original ones are $200 per set

2. Rollers - $20++

Basically a very fun and nippy bike to ride with excellent pick up from low end all the way to 90km/h. With a 10.5 litre fuel tank i normally see 220-230km before reserve light.

Pros and cons of an atlantic over an X9 and vice versa. I've never ridden an X9 but from the looks of it may seem a little more comfy and it comes with original box with seat rest. Emergency braking with AA200 is also at a slight disadvantage cause single disc at the front so the scoot tends to pull to one side slightly as well. X9 owners have twin discs at front so i guess more consistent lining when hard on the brakes.

However, i've seen X9 owners forking out huge amounts to get both discs and pads changed at the same time. $500++ just for front braking!! no kidding. Compared to $200 if need to change the AA200 disc and pads (front only). I must say however that the braking on a AA200 is sufficient for most riding and to be fair to X9 owners, i guess they have a more secure braking feel and less brake travel distance. But that too boils down to many factors like tire condition, road condition, rider reaction times etc. I've never onced felt that i needed more braking power on my AA200 though.

Also heard that X9 front windscreen only lasts 2 years and AA200 lasts 5 years. Oh yeah and if your scoot comes with age, watch out for the small nick nacks to change like rubber ring seals on carb $5 etc.

Some things i would like to get changed/done within the year, if anybody can recommend would be nice.

1. Aftermarket front windscreen (tall version, cause i'm quite tall)

2. Paint Job Single colour or with air brushing techniques would be nice

3. LV exhuast pipe.

Thanks and have fun riding!

hey there.. it's great to meet a fellow atlantic 200 owner with enthusiasm in touring! :thumb: i used to ride a honda varadero 125 till last october and travelled with it all over malaysia and up to phuket was the furthest.. you can check out toobes.multiply.com for some photos of them..

always been interested in scooters so the AA200 seemed a nifty little ride for a year or 2 before getting a class 2 bike..

i've only been up to melaka on it since getting it.. it was a smooth ride all the way.. the only thing that bugged me was the range of the tank.. after 170km i had only 1/4 tank left so i pulled into pagoh RnR.. i usually stop at ayer keroh when travelling on the NSH..

thanx so much for sharing all of the above! :thumb:

the only things i have added on my ride are a hepco and becker junior45 topcase from the previous bike, kappa tall windscreen, phillips crystal vision bulbs, hazard lights, voltmeter and tachometer(which is driving me nuts cuz it reads wrongly all the time.. even after bringing it back twice! 70,000RPM?)..

anyways.. i look forward to exchanging more war stories sometime!

Going to the 1st scooter outing this friday at Burger King East Coast. Hope to meet up some more riders. I think my steering cone is going 'off' again only after 1 year of riding. Sigh......

Hi guys,

I'm currently riding a Gilera VXR 200. Thinking of changing to an Aprillia Atlantic 200.

What is the price now OTR and where is the ideal dealer to go to?

And one more thing is, how is the compartment space like (under-seat there is some compartment space right)?

Thanks guys!!

Hi All,

Just want to share with you, for those whom got hesitation to move off when picking up, and the bike vibrate a lot, more or less it is due to slip clutch. my AA200 clutch slip for about 1 year plus, but didn't really bother me as i got used to it. Thought that as long as you live with it, shouldn't be a problem. Until when i fixed up all the problems of my bike, after deciding not to upgrade (don't want to get into another loan), I spend about $800+ to do a full servicing and change to various polini parts. Below is my review:

Did my full servicing (belts, rollers etc. , and changing of the following parts to polini, also added hazard light to my AA200. All done at Future Scootering, thanks to FS team for reviving my bike!

1. Polini Speed Control

2. Polini Speed Clutch

3. Polini Speed Bell

4. Polini Speed Clutch Spring

Changing to the above parts, definitely the slip clutch problem is gone. The bike feel more powerful than before, especially from 30km/hr to 70km/hr. Didn't really tried the top speed, but it seems like the top end should slightly increase, cos feel that i am using lower throttling to achieve same 100km/hr. FC seems to remain the same, around the range of 27km/hr to 30km/hr, depending on riding style. Previously when i contemplating to change a bike, was a bit bored over riding my AA200 (too much vibration, clutch slip etc). After i changed to the above parts, the entire bike is revived. Now I am enjoying the ride again, at least probably for the next year.

Note: Its good to have the clutch slip problem fixed asap, as prolong vibration may cause other parts wear and tear which is what happen to mine.

My Scara is having Kenda tyres....

Kenda Agent is Chong Aik Int, off Desker Road.

Just curious,

presently how many Scarabeo 200 owners in this forum....

I'm very new to scooters.

Besides the usual servicing (EO/sparkplug), what else must I look out for?

With regards to wear and tear on the belt, rollers & u-shoe, it's possible to check them visually? If so, how much would a shop charge just to check?

What's the recommended tyre pressure for the Atlantic?

Thanks in advance.
