Yong, I love the Aye Split!

Did you hook up a separate camera with a Line-in to your video recorder?

Aye lawrance... how have u been? Hope all is well.. I have attached two cybershot cameras (hahahaha!!! cheapo way of doing it la). Unfortuanately, for the front one, one of the cable tie came loose and I did not know..thats why the front is like shooting more to the right...next time will secure it tighter..after collecting video for both back & front, I use the Ulead software to do overlays....U can even take a shot of ur speedo and like put it on one corner of ur ride video...maybe will try that one day (as suggested by CMS..hehehe). Will pass u the software when I see u k? :)

Hey Macan/Xxes,

Thanks for the advice.

Macan - Would be great to meet you and tap your experience with the bike, even if nothing can be done. I stay just across the road from ASPhoon on Changi road, let me know whenever u are free and we can probably have a quick meet up (about 9pm or so on weeknights would be great). After chatting about our bikes, we can probably head across the road for teh or something (on me of course!)

All the other riders are welcomed too!

Was back in Msia over the weekend and went to Moto Milia. Spoke to quite a friendly guy there and he said the RS 125 is quite versatile and a lot can be done to improve performance. But he also mentioned that LTA approvals could be an issue. Anybody knows if the service and price at Moto Millia is any good?

Cheers,

Edmund

wah! $4500?? Since when the price has dropped? Lol.. Anyway, just asking for knowledge sake. yet again. hehe... can a 1995 model of aprilia can ever be done in a better condition than the new ones? for example, the engine is as good as new. or does overhauling actually make other parts of the bike worse? correct me if i'm wrong. it was recommended to rebuilt the bike after 30,000km mileage from other international forums. what's the difference between rebuilding and overhauling?

last question is, comparing a brand new one costing $14.5k, will an older version aprilia bike, 1995 model big-bored to 170cc, can be done up to be in race-ready conditon? cos i intend to try my riding skills on a proper track than on sg roads so must ensure that the bike won't break down easily after every exhaustive day on track.

or is it recommended to just scrap the bike and just get a newer bike?

dun bother wit the 95-96 RS125 , those are very old models and parts are hard to find, no official dealer for parts for these models , mah also dun wan get these parts even u wanna special order...... get at least a 03 wit price ard 2.5k-4k... easier to maintain and get parts

Well, I'll still be looking around for the time being. Anyone spot any RS125 at any shops lately? I think I will need to go for a refinance for the bike.

Thanks man! Things are going well. Let's meet up for a kopi proper aye? Before you migrate!

Just bought cheap and good armoured jeans from overseas, only abt S$130 each. Bought 2 for myself, 1 for gf and 1 for Edwin.

In terms of fitting, very well because its asian sizing/cutting. Fits well, minimal shifting of armour, and belt not required if proper size is selected, though I still wear a belt to carry my Leatherman Skeletool on my hip.

Ventilation is good because its not kevlar, just regular denim, albeit slightly thicker. The sides of the jeans have zippers which you can leave open for ventilation and adjustment of the armour position.

As far as design is concerned, all look different. Ranges from the minimalistic (minimal hemming, just plain ol' jeans), to the Type 4 with fancy styling lines. But have worn them all, comfort level is pretty high on my priority and they score well. And the comments I got from non-biking lay persons is that they look fashionable, and they would never have guessed they were armoured jeans because the armour fit well so is quite inconspicuous. No tell-tale bulge or anything.

Here's the pics of the jeans I bought. Will buy a few more pairs for my friends overseas so if any of you want, do let me know early.

xxes123 has answered that question. As for rebuilding and overhauling, I think the extent of work done is the same. Both terms are interchangeable and loosely used to mean replacing components within the engine save for the casing.

last question is, comparing a brand new one costing $14.5k, will an older version aprilia bike, 1995 model big-bored to 170cc, can be done up to be in race-ready conditon? cos i intend to try my riding skills on a proper track than on sg roads so must ensure that the bike won't break down easily after every exhaustive day on track.

Without going into detail, the fact is this: DURABILITY and PERFORMANCE are on opposite ends of the spectrum. You can only have one or the other, NEVER both at once.

170cc? More horses? Will the piston, conrod, crankshaft, gear balancers, drivetrain take it? How much more to get uprated components like titanium conrod etc? Will the retaining bolts of your cylinder hold? Are the torque settings correct? Used a torque wrench? Is that enough? Will the piston or spark plug melt? Will the gasket and o-rings melt? Will my brakes hold out or will fail from performing at a level not originally designed for? Are my tires rated to go that fast?

Many things will need upgrading. I've been down that road, and hated it. Stock is best, and honestly, stock is good enough.

I've ridden this old girl for 5 years, and still she gets me in trouble with the law. It's enough to break the speed limit twice over, and yet she sips petrol at 30km/litre. What more could I possibly ask for?

icic... so, a stock bike will be good enough for riding hard eh? thanks for the insights. then if that's the case bro, how will you rate the new kawasaki ninja 250 against an rs125? one is 4 stroke double the cc of the 2 stroker. so is their power actually the same? i'm curious to find out how these 2 will go against one another as their top speed and fuel consumption is rather similar with ninja being slightly better. correct me if im wrong, i just wanna gather as much info as possible.

Stock's good enough. I ride stock on track now. It's pure fun, fun, fun. Because I worry less about the abovementioned impending disasters from 'mods'.

As for power comparison... Heh heh... In a perfect world, where carburetion is perfect, the 2-stroke powerplant will deliver twice as much power as a 4-stroke of the same capacity, it having twice the number of combustion per cycle compared to the 4-stroke. Therefore, a 125cc 2-stroke should put out the same amount of power as a 250cc 4-stroke.

However, no matter how well tuned, the 2-stroke 125cc will be beat by the 4-stroke 250cc, due to the engine not being as efficient as the 4-stroke. The single cylinder 4-stroke 250cc will have good torque, and plenty of oomph for its pickup but I dont think it'll do well on the higher revs. Since the Kawasaki Ninja 250R is a 250cc 4-stroke parallel twin, I think it'll happily hit the higher revs without breaking a sweat, but will lose a little on the acceleration.

Of course, I've have never ridden a Kawasaki Ninja 250, so.... all of the above is moot. All hypothetical lah hahahaha...

The theories are sound, but I just have never tried the bike out so can't write any testimony to compare. Bottom line, however, is that you're better off getting a 4-stroke for durability and less impact on the environment than a 2-stroke.

PS: Despite all I've said, I still love the sound, smell, and temperamental powerband of a 2-stroke single! :p

Hello again guys and gals. I called up Mah Motors juz now and found out that they have a 03 model 2nd Hand. According to the salesperson, Mah Motors have done up the bike nicely with parts from 06 model. He gave me a rough quote of 5k+ inclusive of insurance. Will be heading down on my free time to view the bike one of these days. Is there anything I should be looking out for? Any insider tips from the seniors here will be greatly appriciated.

But price wise leh?

Price is what you pay.

Value is what you think you are getting for what you are paying for.

It's really very hard to tell you what price is a 'good price'.

But if you feel it's reasonable, and worth your money, buy it.

I personally don't mind spending a little more if something is worth that little extra to me. But to someone else, it wont be worth it. Very subjective. In the end, be happy with your purchase, and leave no room for regrets. Don't let anyone make you feel otherwise.

Just don't let the sales staff persuade you with 'freebies' like free full-face helmet, raincoat, 1-yr free warranty/servicing etc. All these are nonsense meant to 'sweeten the deal'. Take everything with a pinch of salt.

Trust me. I was in advertising. I know how to make people spend money they havent made on things they dont need.

Good luck! And happy bike shopping! :thumb:
