so that means to say that 08 still better then 06? but fuel consumption is higher right?

Do you actually know what that wawan is talking about?

He means that unlike the 06 model, the 08 has no power valve. Which means to say there's no power increment at 8k rpm and no headaches about your valve jamming/breaking too.

CDI restrictions limit your power band. Typically a CDI is programmed to pass emission tests at certain RPMs.

As for FC, it depends on your riding style, and like what lacrimosae would say, carburettor tuning.

Great post, Vipergod2000!

I've always used that whacking of the throttle as one of the methods to test my tuning, but it never occurred to me to use it to test for tuning or compression during a bike viewing before purchase!

Rich carburetion, aside from cleaning carburetors, also means more frequent valve cleaning, spark plug changes, and top overhauls. That's why I run extremely lean now. My 10 yr old track-going bike is also a 30km/L sipper. :thumb:

It must have been Aaron talking about optimal compression range because it sure wasn't me! haha.... Anyway, I once had my block skimmed and used a longer piston which increased my compression drastically.

The result?

Increased torque throughout the powerband, incredible acceleration, and the best part - blown head gasket every 500km.

The compression was so high that the gasket couldn't hold. My coolant would seep into the engine, giving my exhaust a white smoke. The oil seal separating the gear oil from the engine would vibrate itself out of place and my gear oil would be burnt off in my engine too, adding more thick, oily, white smoke to the noxious mix. I was booked by NEA for creating a Genting Highlands fog everywhere I went.

Sure, I had a hard-on every time I rode my bike, but as far as mods go, this proves more fun = more troubles (like women).

IZECUBEZ,

Low resale value could be depreciation of over 50% of purchase price. If you are not looking to keep the bike, like some of us, don't get this lemon.

alexissey,

Where's the oil leaking from? Scoots are pretty hardy machines, and I've serviced an Atlantic before; they don't break easily. You might wanna bring it back to the dealer to get it fixed, and if they push the blame on you (you don't know how to ride it; or you did something bad; or just the plain old "it's your fault, not us"), take it elsewhere for a proper fix. If you'd like a 2nd opinion, I could take a look at it when I'm in Singapore.

Just drop me a PM.

Yeah dude. I've learnt a MONUMENTAL amount about bikes in general in the past 9 months of owning my aprilia (my first bike) and all the problems that come with it, lets you fully appreciate all factors that take part in making this bike, appear in a class of its own.

I'm getting about 25km/l on mine, which i feel is still slightly rich despite tuning, nevertheless my RS still performs like a bullet leaving a chamber. I love the fact that I can get to work in Alexandra (living at tanah merah) on sundays, about eleven minutes on my good days. (I hope this post doesn't entice the newbie keen buyer)

Yong, WHEN WANNA MEET UP? Tonight right?

Aye for sure we will meet up...I sold my phantom but still keeping the RS125, just in case I have a change of heart and decide to head back to sg. Never put all ur eggs in one basket rite? hehehehehe... ;)

Wow yag. Just now I sped all the way home with the WRXs man. Haha. 3 of them.

And I guess u were smelling their exhaust all the way.... hahahahahahhaha!!!!! They were waiting for us at the side of the road as we were coming out from the carpark. Actually 4 of them. The very first one sped off quite far ahead of the rest.

Yong, WHEN WANNA MEET UP? Tonight right?

Ya sure.. aye but I'd most probably be driving cause a friend from KL will be joining us. If i am driving, I can give u a lift too. :D
