Preferably follow where the majority recommends to go is a good thing dude. Or u might risk getting duped and having a conked out engine, THEN go to the shop that was advised. I was in that same boat. And i learned it the hArd way. Til now my accident claim cannot settle cos of that fella. So choose wisely. :)

Thanks priller07. I agree. I've been reading this thread for a while now (longer before I started posting) and put a lot of weight on advice from lacrimosae and Sub Zero. So 37 Motoring it is.

In fact, I'm going to follow Sub Zero's maintenance schedule as well. If my engine seizes, I'll sue him for damages. Just kidding. Or am I? :D ;)

For avoidance of doubt, yes I'm kidding. No flames pls.

Thanks Sub Zero for the insight. Very useful info.

TBH, I probably fit in the category of RS owners that might get duped into getting unnecessary things done by dodgy service people just because I want to give my RS the best care I can. So having someone with years of RS ownership experience giving some feedback is most appreciated.

No worries mate. Glad you're taking it in a positive note. :)

But i must warn you, all bikes are different, some need more care, some are more hardy. My bike is very sensitive. And after riding it for quite some time, i can 'feel' when it's not good or something's wrong. I dont usually ride my bike that hard.. That's why it manages to last i guess. :)

I wouldnt advise following the majority though. It depends on which workshop serves your needs. I recommend Teck Thye too. The work done is good, but i'm not too high up on the prices or the customer care. My personal advice would be for you to try both, over a course of 2 months and compare yourself. Do 1 servicing at 37, then the same thing at TT.

You seem quite unbiased and fair. I imagine your review would be fair. I look forward to reading your experience, be completely honest and candid about it. So the rest of the guys here know as well. :)

But then again, I've read countless amount of stories in AF1 forums, especially the Brits stating that once their compression is down, they tear open the block, remove piston and just change the rings. I assume that they also clean up the cylinder too. Think about it, 1 set of piston and rings already cost so much. But to replace just the rings, gaskets and coolant. It could probably just add up to the price we pay for a piston and ZERO service. As long you're willing to DIY, I dont see what's the problem with just a ring replacement. PS: I MISS MY BIKE!

F**K LAH. ANOTHER PROBLEM WIF MY BIKE. i duno if im reali suay or a realli horrible rider. Freaking bike cannot start. I really really really did not expect so many problems from a 1 week old $12k bike.

I started up this morning and it was fine. one crank can start alr. let it warm up for 5 mins. hopped on it, engage gear one, move for 10 meters then engine died

-.-" aft that crank but cant start. Im thinking maybe the spark plug wet, but i didnt even turn the throttle when i first start the bike in the morning. never even pull choke. sian ah. sibei sian. nw must pay $35 to tow the bike.

btw if anyones wondering, i have never wacked the bike in 1 week. rode it normally, making sure my revs dun exceed 6k. i switch thru the gears often and dun cruise at one single gear for long periods of time. i do a quick pre check everytime before i ride off. So i really dun noe wtf is wrng ah.

Problems with the bike so far in its 1 week of life. :

1)Speedo not working

2)"!" warning indicator light keeps coming on randmly

3)very funny cranking sound everytime i downshift and use engine brake, esp frm gear 4>3, 3>2,2>1.

4)CANNOT F**KING START THE BIKE

called mah up towing is $35 bucks. sian.

5 minutes of warm-up time is a good duration, so for the bike to die after moving off, there are a few possibilities:

1. Carburetion is too rich, the spark plug got fouled during the warm-up.

2. Water in the carb - The water sinks to the bottom of the float bowl, so under idling there is not enough negative pressure to draw it up, normal fuel is used. When you throttle up, the water sitting at the bottom of the float bowl gets sucked up and kills the combustion, fouling the spark plug in the process.

Your run-in procedures is very good, by the book. :thumb: Keep it up until 500-1000km thereabouts.

1. Speedo is dependent on the sensor, which is mounted near the rear wheel to sense the frequency a magnet in your rear wheel passes. If either component is missing, the speedometer won't work.

2. If this is the warning light for 2T, your 2T sensor might be faulty. I know a guy who bought a bike brand new, and had a seizure because the 2T sensor was defective, and it never came on despite running low on 2T. His 2T ran out and his engine seized. Get your sensor checked out. Doesn't mean that the bike is new, everything is working.

3. Weird cranking or mashing sound? Cranking, as in cranking the bike to start? If you hear weird/rough sounds from your engine, there are a few possibilities:

- gear balancers are broken

- gear bearings are broken

- conrod is loose

Again, new bike/engine does not mean problem-free engine.

4. Cannot start due to? Be specific. Describe symptoms. Low batt? Lights flicker when you crank? LCD fades? Rough mashing sounds from the starter? A clicking sound, no cranking? Does push-starting work?

The issue here is not the bike. The bike perpetually has problems surfacing all the time. The real problem here is your mindset. Nearly everyone who buys an Aprilia shares your mindset. That is, 'I paid good money for this, so this bike better deliver.'

The trouble is, the money spent does not translate to what you may be getting from the bike. Our bikes cost about S$6500 machine price, based on what I've seen when I was in the US and UK. After taxes and factoring in the profit margin, the retail cost is quite high. So naturally, you feel that after paying so much, the bike should be fast, problem-free, and everything you'd hope for. Truth be told, it's not. Many of us troubleshoot our own bikes because it saves us a lot of downtime the bike spends sitting in the workshop doing nothing.

Actually i hafta say i have a rough idea what the problem might be. from the looks/sounds of it seems like the spark plug is wet. But i have no idea how it came to that. Coz like i said the engine started up fine for 5mins. Then i engaged gear 1, moved off for 10 meters and the bike died. Everything seems fine. No warning lights, battery is still alive (voltmeter shows a healthy 12v) and the electric starter has no problem cranking, just the the bike wont start. Times like this i miss having a kickstart so i can crank the engine without worrying abt spoiling the electric starter. I wanted to open up the plug on my own just nw but im afraid it will void my warranty coz they marked all the screws with yellow marker, scared wait i open they say warranty void i die.

Regarding the warning indicator, im pretty sure thats the 2t indicator. Anw, i have checked the 2t level several times and theres still alot of 2t in the container. so im guessing sth wrng wif the sensor. As for the speedo issue, im pretty sure its the sensor too coz all the other dials and lights haf no problem.

The cranking sound im really not sure. but it sounds like the chain rattling. im pretty sure this is not normal. hope its nth major ah. Wana go riding and finish with the run in of my bike man!

Well i guess i juz feel like shyte coz the bikes barely a week old. I mean if u were to buy a handphone and it screws up on u in the first week, anyone would get pissed. thats exactly how i feel lah. even if i had bought a wave or spark or any cheaper bikes, id feel the same way. coz no one expects brand new stuff to f**k up.

bt what to do. machines are machines. they can break down anytime. and anw the bikes otw to workshop alr (basket called at 1pm, 430pm still otw back to workshop) duno if can take back by today.

OK, this is my first attempt at uploading a file, so here goes. Looking forward much to comments.

Wrong way of mounting a damper. It has to be horizontal to steering movement axis. For side mounting a damper, drill a hole at the main frame is a must for RS125. The main frame is very strong, do not worry about damaging the frame. It is tough to drill a hole on the frame.

Bought my bike for S$2,000. Subsequently, I spent more on parts and maintenance thereafter.

1st year - S$6,000 - servicing, getting chopped at bike shops

2nd year - S$2,000 - mostly DIY, consummables like spark plugs, gear oil and 2T

3rd year - S$11,000 - started track racing; replaced tires, gear oil, brake pads and clutch friction plates every 3-4 months

4th year - S$14,000 - still riding track about 1-2 times per month, plus mods, I changed cylinders, pistons and bearings more often than I changed my underwear :D

5th year - S$10,000 - just maintenance and general upkeep, plus experimenting with aftermarket products

6th year - S$10,000 - same, general running costs

7th year - S$12,000 - maintenance and upgrades

My best advice to you? DON'T get this bike. PLEASE.

Hey tyltyltyl. I got my used 08 Spain's No 1 RS125 from Glob*l Mot*r at Ubi. Paid $8k all up (machine, insurance ($500+ from NTUC) and GST). There are a LOT of fairly negative reviews of Glob*l Mot*r (search SBF), but my experience has been good. From memory, the negative reviews tend to be about deposits or monthly installments, neither of which applied in my case since I paid it all at the time of purchase.

I had a breakdown on my maiden ride of the bike. Went for a spin, came back, bike spluttered to a stop in void deck, then fuel trickled down and broke my heart. Glob*l towed it away the next day (no cost to me), fixed it up, and she's been running fine ever since.

My personal view of where to get the bike from - go with either the shop that has the model you're after, or preferably the shop that gives you the best service. There are plenty of evidence of the RS breaking down almost immediately after purchase, so you're going to want a shop that will do the necessary fixes properly and without giving you a headache.

I've only had the bike for three months, so can't comment on long term maintenance, but I can say that (touch wood) mine has been incredibly nice to me. Haven't had to top up anything besides fuel for now, but I will be going in for a carb clean and tune at 37 Motoring soon (see Sub Zero's figures here http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/71802-Aprilia-Riders?p=6708961&viewfull=1#post6708961). The prices seem very fair to me.

I should mention that I only ride 50-80km on Sat and/or Sun mornings, so your maintenance experience/figures may vary if you ride it all day everyday.

If you're buying used, I highly recommend taking someone with you who you trust and who knows a thing or two about the bike. Mine helped me negotiate for new LED indicators, new tyres, and a new rear hugger. I honestly think I would've overlooked all of this in my rush/giddiness to buy the bike :)

As for the speedo issue, im pretty sure its the sensor too coz all the other dials and lights haf no problem.

it might just be the speedo cable issue. mine just broke recently and i thought its the speedo sensor.
