18k so ex? how much just for repairs and maintenance?

haha.. pardon me, do meet aprilians more often and you'll know where the 18k went into when you see some of the 'exotic' rs125 in SG esp d regulars here.

Dont get frightened by the numbers.. the more insights you get, the better you understand and appreciate how the money is spent.

I juz wana ask the more experienced guys here. As ive posted earlier, last friday, my bike couldnt start. Batt was fine, everythings fine, bt the bike couldnt start. My guess was that the spark plug must haf been fouled. And it turns out thats the problem

So i got the bike towed over to mah on friday(i had to pay towing fees -_-") Anyway when i came to collect my bike, the mech said that the plug fouled coz i warmed up the bike for too long. He says next time start bike wack the throttle a few times, then go off. dun need to warm up. He says 2 stroke bikes dun require warm up. And so therefore i didnt noe this beforehand so i am responsible for the spark plug fouling, therefore i have to pay for towing.

Ive been riding 2 strokes every since i passed( 2 years) and i have to say i havent seen how a warm up can spoil a bike. On the contrary i saw how NOT warming up f**cked up my old bike. So, is this a load of bull juz to shift the blame to me, or is there truth in it? Maybe its an aprilia thing i never knew, that we're nt supposed to warm up our bikes. Someone please enlighten me.

Juz fyi ever since that experience, ive decided never to go back to Mah, unless i have to chance sth defective which is covered by warranty. and that too after i got the problem verified by another workshop. also since i also had to pay( i tot got free servicing the first 3 times) might as well go to a better workshop for more peace of mind. So next service i'll be heading over to 37.

This is not the first time they have claimed human error for damages (rider's fault) so that they avoid covering the cost of towing, replacement, and repairs.

Warming up in very important. I have 2 RS125, and both are perfectly tuned. They can be left idling until the petrol in a fully-filled tank (14 litres) run dry and the spark plugs are still perfectly brown, and still firing like champions.

The only trouble is, tuning a bike to run like that takes time, for me it took about 200hrs (that's right, two hundred hours), about 2 hours per day, everyday for 3 months. There are 8 variables in our 34mm carbs. I tried a different combination of jets until I got the right air/fuel mix ratio.

Workshops have an incentive to feed riders with misinformation because of 2 reasons:

1. In the time they spend to tune a bike properly, they can overhaul 40 bikes, and earn a potential of $40,000 (assuming an average of 5 hours per overhaul, and an average of $1,000 charged per overhaul). They would rather put on a show of fiddling with your idle/air screw and then claim that your carb is tuned, than to open the carb to change the jets inside, which takes a lot of time. Not to mention checking of spark plugs, then replacing a new plug for further tests of a different jet configuration.

2. If you believe their lies that 2-stroke bikes don't require warm-up, then you WILL damage your bike quicker than you would if you ride it that way it should be ridden, and they profit from your patronage. Think of it as a heart surgeon who owns a string of char kuey teow stalls.

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Do or do not; there is no 'try'.

Same here to bro. They told me 2-stroke bike dun need to warm up. Just whack 3 to 5 times n move off. Actually I went to mah for another prob regarding abt my rpm n speed. I was suppose to go at 90 nt exceeding 6000rpm. Bt the day I bought my maximum speed was 73km/h. And I was riding like tat for a week. So went to mah n admit my bike in. After all done they told me smthing to do with expansion tank or smthing. Ask them more question abt the problem they divert the topic. And we r nt allow to enter their workshop when r repairing our bike. Pathetic:(

yalah all bulls**t ah that mech. I mean if im some noob p-plate just pass yesterday can come n bulls**t me ah. I have rudimentary knowledge of 2-stroke engines(fiddled wif my old SP, and when time came to scrap it i stripped the bike oand tore apart everything including engine internals, and also ive been interested in these kinda things since i was young so i know how 2-stroke engines work. the art of carb tuning however has managed to elude me. heh)

The only reason i paid is coz my balls itchy already and i couldnt wait to get my bike out of that place and ride around and finish my run in. If not i would have left the bike there, waited til monday and speak to the manager or sth, and bring my dad along and see him tell his cock and bull story to my dad.

Oh i missed out the best part. they wanted to charge me 10 bucks extra for towing coz i locked my handle bar, when the girl supposedly told me not to lock the handle bar. F**K U LA BLOODY CHINA GIRL GO LEARN HOW TO SPEAK PROPER ENGLISH U DUNO TALK WHAT C**K ON THE FONE U EXPECT ME TO UNDERSTAND. also they seriously nd to teach their customer service reps to speak proper english coz i spent 20mins and 3 calls trying to tell her my bike cant start and i need it towed, inclusive of a good 10mins trying to explain to her i dun speak mandrin.

Just need to collect my pipe this wkend and i think my bikes gona bid farewell to that place for good.

i also just found out one more thing. I was charged 1650 for my insurance. But i just received my insurance cert today thru mail and it clearly states the premium paid was 1k+ only -_- where did the other 650 go!!!!!

but i'll also have add that in total, its still cheaper than buying from other shops coz i got the free coe promo. so oh wells. suck thumb...

where should I buy RS125 from? heard bad story about Mah here, any good reputable place to recommend?

duno if they still haf their free coe promo. Like i said earlier, its the cheapest deal in town right now. coz other shops sell the same machine 12.2k free pipe but coe road tax IU haf to pay. Bike COE nw 1.5k. so quite ex. mah is 12.2k all in excluding ur insurance.

Wow, they still practising this stunt?? You should go confront them about this. And they'll nicely tell you it's for admin fee or some other BS. Same thing they did to a guy i knw years back. They quoted insurance under NTUC, but the final insurance was under AXA or something. Much cheaper, and they swallowed the difference.

Please go and ask them about this. I'd love to hear their reasoning.

guys 2 quick qns. how much does a brand new 34mm carb cost with installation? Or if anyone did this at 37 motoring before care to share?

secondly, im getting a full arrow system pipe instead of a promised gianelli one. I know this has been discussed before and i have read up on some thoughts of it but any personal views on someone who has used both? Performance wise? based on what ive seen , the only diff is in the endcan. Other than that the whole system looks the same to me. hmmm. soundwise ive never heard the new arrow pipe before. Gianelli's sound not too bad but i reali wished the jolly motos were street legal. sounds damn nice based on the youtube vids ive seen.

Get the 34mm carb from xxes123. $350. Installation at 37 motoring plus tuning would be about $30.

My advice is never to buy parts from shops as you can almost always get it cheaper elsewhere.

Arrow is just better IMO. I dont really fancy Gianelli. NOt sure if the endcans make a diff, but the belly is the same. :)

Hi any one here tune their own bike? just wanna know what will happen if its tuned too lend? i know too rich will compromise the performance.

and recently the sound of the exhaust seem like coming from to front of the bike instead of the back. I check the exhaust pipe, its seem ok.

wow bro you seem really good at the tuning the bike, is there something i can look up to to have my bike as well? i dont mind spending the excess hours.

http://justkdx.dirtrider.net/printcarbtuning.html

I have the Dellorto Manual, Dellorto Carb Tuning Manual, and a few more manuals in pdf format I can email to you if you PM me your email address.

You can purchase and read the following books, which definitely helped me over the years. (Listed not in the order of importance)

1. The Essential Guide to Motorcycle Maintenance - Mark Zimmerman

2. Two-Stroke Performance Tuning - A. Graham Bell

3. Two-Stroke Performance Tuning in Theory and Practice - A. Graham Bell

4. Motorcycle Tuning: Two Stroke - John Robinson

5. How to Repair Your Motorcycle - by Charles Everitt

6. Zen & The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance - Robert M. PIRSIG

After you've read the books and got enough hands on experience, it's time to learn to ride your bike well.

You can try 2 very insightful and interesting books:

1. Twist of the Wrist: The Motorcycle Roadracers Handbook (Vol 1) - Keith Code

2. A Twist of the Wrist 2: The Basics of High-Performance Motorcycle Riding - Keith Code

Then try to apply what you can remember from those books to your track sessions.

Local mechs are usually skeptical that you can learn anything from books, but that's only because they have nothing in their noggins to pen down. Sure, in the end its all words but even if you can try to digest a fraction of it in every sitting and apply it, those are life skills you will pick up slowly but surely.

I'm no engineer but I learnt everything from scratch over the many years of owning a fleet of bikes. I started getting my hands dirty when I was 14, and eventually realised that its mostly common sense and simply problem solving.
