I get butterflies in my tummy everytime I think about tracking. I really need to pull the trigger on a suit and get the bike and I transported to PG. Then hopefully I can edit my siggie like all you champions with siggies with lean photos

Pulled the trigger finally and got me a new suit (Alpinestars GP Pro). Fits like a freakin' glove. I tried a couple of Dainese suits (Laguna Seca 2009 and Pro) and they had a pretty terrible fit on me - which was great because they were significantly more expensive!

All I'm waiting on now is my eBay-sourced GoPro HD to arrive. Assuming it arrives in two weeks, I'll be looking to hit PG for the very first time later this month. I'll transport the bike up ($100 return if it's just me, $80 return per person if it's two or more persons) and will be looking to do so on a weekday. That way I can hopefully get an empty track like mesa did and track without traffic worries. I'll post my planned date on the PG Track Board but will also do it here in case I can convince any of you good people to come with me. :)

Omg guys i had like a freaking bad nightmare. I dreamt that my engine blew up coz i didnt put in the piston circlip properly and the gudgeon pin dislodged and my engine blew to smithereens. I seriously woke up sweating, and im nt shy to say this but i cried in my dream. lol

But on the more serious not, im getting kinda worried. The dream reminded me that i used the rotax piston circlip and fit it into the Wiseco piston. I know for sure that the stock circlip is thicker than the one which came with the Wiseco. But when i went over to ah seng to get the circlip, i asked him, he gave me the stock piston circlip. I asked him if i can use it on the Wiseco and he said yes. I fit the circlip in as best as i can and i pushed it all the way in with a sharp nose screwdriver. Then i tried taking it out again and i had a tough time doing it, so i thought that it should be fine coz the fit is firm. Anyway the thing thats getting me worried is that looking at the side where i used the Wiseco circlip, the clip can clearly be seen to sit in the groove. But on the stock circlip size, i cant even see the groove. How ah. Should i run the bike? Or should i take everything back out?

I had my block polished, but just mildly. Meaning those scratched bits where its rough, i carefully sanded it down with extremely fine sandpaper(1000+ grit? sth like that) Btw this process was done by a friend of mine, an old timer who played around with the extremas back in the days. Also had my intake and exhaust ports knife-edged(cant wait to see hw this turns out)

Anyway, after 5 gruelling/back-breaking/skin scraping/finger aching hours, i finally put humpty-dumpty back together again. But not fully. Still have to put in the carb and airbox back. But main point is, the bulk of the work is done. When i put my piston in, the fit was tight, but not too tight that i hafta force it in. Just had to lube it up a little and push it in. Btw i used a 53.97mm Wiseco piston(courtesy of our kind Mr Lawrence). AND, i did a compression test(compression tester also from our kind Mr Lawrence) and guess what. I got a healthy 135psi compression.

Gona put everything back in tmrw and video my first start =) Hopefully, tmrw i graduate from DIY college and finally become a man.

GST is a standard 7%. BUT the GST that u are charged is not solely based on the invoice value. The GST amount is based on CIF(Cost, Insurance, Freight). So u can expect the GST amount to be more than 7% ur package value. even though the shipping is free, there is still a shipping charge which is absorbed by pjme(which might/might not be indicated on the invoice). But this shipping charge is still calculated into the total CIF value(if its indicated on the invoice). So depending on what is indicated on the invoice that pjme attaches with the package, the GST charge might vary.

Regarding the 8% GST or whatever extra fees, i cannot comment as different shipping companies have diff methods of charging this. But just fyi, in order to bring out an item of over 400SGD value, a GST permit needs to be declared. The declaration of this permit costs $10. So this is probably where the extra charge comes from.

Thanks for the info Ashraf. But i don't understand why would you use a smaller than stock size piston? Is it ok to do so?

Also 135 psi seems rather high I think. Is it a single ring piston?

Well done on the DIY. :)

I was hoping my post would provoke a reply from you Larry. Lower rates will be music to my ears. Will def let you know when I'm good to go. :D

How long do you guys normally go for? I understand it's RM50 for 9-10am, RM80 for 10-1pm, and RM100 for 9am-1pm. The last one sounds like a good deal, but how long realistically can a n00b like me last out there? I get the feeling an hour at this early stage will be enough (esp an hour in the morning when it's cool vs three hours in the hot sun).

Well done on the DIY.

I got the piston off Lawrence. Reason why its 53.97mm i think is becoz thats the biggest size for the Wiseco piston that PJME supplies. Which im guessing is where lawrence got it from. I guess if PJME supplies it then it should be fine. I guess its probably due to sth i read about using forged pistons, where its recommended to have a 0.05mm clearance for piston expansion. Im really not sure how true this is though.

Im quite surprised that the compression is that high too. I was expecting a 120psi. Aft the first crank, the reading only came up to 115psi. Then i cranked it a 2nd time and it went up to 120psi. Another crank brought the reading up to 130psi. Just to be sure i cranked one more time and it went up to 135psi. Im gona do another test tonight with everything back on. Btw for this test i did not have the carb and airbox fitted in, just left the inlet manifold open. Could this have affected the reading? Maybe its due to the ported block. Im really not sure. Bt whatever it is, gona pop everything back in tonite and do another test. And if i have time, might do a squish band test. Running a 0.5mm base gasket now hopefully my squish band is within manufacturers specs. Btw its a Wiseco double ring piston.

Thanks for the reply! with that being said, "take e time to learn how to ride/maintain it urself or pay 4 all e knowledge when things turn ugly. " do you mean if one does not take good care of the ride eg, abusing it with low quality products? Or? Also, the previous posts i've read were mainly about DIY issues like mods and piston changes. With my regards, would a stock Aprilia being fed good quality oil, 2T.. and stuff be giving me issues like that?

My aprilia is 7 years old when i took over and it has been 3 months. Ever since it was in my hands, i did not let it suffer in the rain nor sun, change my maxima gear oil every 3000km, let it warm up for 2 to 3 mins before moving off, use maxima 2T, wash my valve myself every 2 weeks, plans to wash carb every 1 month, seldom rev past 7k rpm, pump caltex 98 and most importantly let a qualify mechanic work on my bike. Till this day, it has never let me down.

weekdays RM35/hour

weekends RM50/hour

official trackdays starts

9am-10am RM50

10am-1pm RM 80

or do like what i normally do 9am-1pm RM100

note it says 1am but normally by 1215 the 5 lap challenge will start..

track time depends on each rider's condition and level of concerntration..

once u feel a wee bit uncomfortable, pit in...hydrate yourself plenty... 3 litres of water is the minimum

once u feel bike is not right, pit in

an hour track time normally equates to maybe less then 30mins actual track time, cause u be pitting in for liquid, smokes or whatever u need to attend to...

what i do is first time on track,do 2 cruising laps, our engine needs to be really in ideal operating temperature to prevent anything terminal happening...and then a moderate to quick 8 hot laps, pit in ,quick tyre pressure check, quick check on others, chains etc etc drink smoke and off i go non stop for the remainding 30mins...thats the 1st hour,2nd hour...u wont find me in the pits,i be pacing around for 1 whole hour (unless i dont feel comfortable)... if i do pit in,its to hop into my Daytona or vice versa...

when we meet on our 1st track outing,we can ride together, bro.me behind u then u in front n we keep doing this till once i feel u are mentally shagged ( can tell because there will be minor mistakes ).will signal u to pit in by zooming off..many guys have paced together with me and was surprised they can actually do a 45mins actual track time,u will to because u be having a darn good time riding together..

remember racing is not all about physical fitness, its more the mental fitness... no matter how fit a person is,if he is tense n not relax on the bike,he be drained in matter of minutes..

Geez I hope it's SG to PG direct.

A related question: If the bike is towed to PG, would I accompany the bike with the towing people or make my own way there?

I've just got my reminder to go for my first inspection before May. The only thing I suspect could be a problem is my tail tidy (i.e. absence of the standard large mudguard/number plate holder). Has anyone here got pinged for not having the mudguard at inspection? I wonder if the inspector would see the rear hugger as the mudguard, in which case there shouldn't be a problem. Cheers bros.
