Its purely my own opinion but i think u shud have used the stock bike first. then install the parts one by one. that way u will know what improvements ur money bought u. Nw u will only feel the aftermarket parts and wouldnt know what changes they made to the bike.

I strongly hold on to the belief that the only person who will get ur bike to perfection is urself. No one else will. As the saying goes, if u want things done right u got to do it urself =D

1st part sounds exactly like what i'd say. :)

2nd part sounds exactly like lawrence. :) Well done, DIY apprentice. :)

True enough. On a side note, i hope people will spare a thought for those who aren't mechanically inclined, or born with a golden spanner in their hands. To those who understand the basics, tuning sounds easy and straightforward. To some who stiLL can't quite grasp the whole concept (me included, i guess), please have mercy on them. No offense anyone. :)

thumbs up mate. Personally, i cant be bothered to get my hands dirty with DIY and all that. I rather bring it to a mech who knows what he's doing and I ALSO know what is going on. I feel I'm good enough to diagnose problems with the bike with my years of experience, and I can easily get it rectified with my instructions to Ah Seng. :)

I dont know Malay or Chinese, but somehow, some way, with broken English and hand gestures, i managed to communicate with Ah Seng and he has almost always managed tune my bike to my preference. That's the important part. Tuned to how you like it! Not how your mech is a lazy bum, and tunes it, and says this is good, go ride it. When you don't like it, they'll say you dont know how to ride it. I hate these kind of stupid mechs. You're the rider, and master of your bike, not them.

Phewww... Anyway, tuning easy la.. put the jets in, rev the bike, stick in the long screwdriver and rev, rev, REVVVV!!!

Done!

I hate you.

3.6K Ohlins front fork.

Now Ohlins TTX rear suspension. 2.5K.

Now I feel sien. No more pride being one of the first TWO to install the Ohlins in SG in Oct 09. Ohlins getting so common now. Time to sell off, and get the TTX also.

How to fit damper liao? Use other model one?

For ur double front disc setup, what are the calipers/disc u used?

Being toying with the idea of using double disc since 2-3yrs back but was afraid that the rotation mass increase outweigh the performance gain in braking.

Other than gain in braking power, what are the cons you encounter?

I think maybe the more correct way to phrase my view is that you should at the very least KNOW what is going on, like sub zero said.

I agree that not many people may have the time or patience to DIY, and frankly speaking there were times while i was doing my top overhaul that i was so frustrated(mainly when i couldnt get the cylinder nut off and had trouble wif the circlips) that i literally threw my spanner at the wall and yelled in frustration at 2am in the morning, and i really felt like packing up and towing my bike to workshop the next day and just let a mech do it.

But knowing what needs to be done and not going to the workshop without any idea whats going will make the life of the mech and urself a lot easier. U have to tell the mech exactly what u want, only then can u get the results u expect.

Lastly just wana say to the guys who just got their bikes, ALOT of the answers to your questions are in this forums, so do use the search function before asking a question. To date, i have not purchased any books of any sort or went to any courses. Everything i know is from what i read thru based on the links that lawrence and the other guys posted. And also from reading thru other forums(my fave is tjtuning. u wana see modded bikes. thats the place to go) And based on these links/info i went from a total noob who didnt noe how to change the engine oil 6mths ago, to me doing my first(and thankfully successful) top overhaul. Anyone can do it really. Its whether u wana put in the effort or not. but in my case, my monetary constraints left me no choice but to DIY. haha.

Ashraff,

Not going to take anything away from you. I'm still in shock that you did your top overhaul all by yourself. I'm honest to say i wouldnt! Haha. And yes, you went from dude who banged a chick in his MPV to a bonafide DIY specialist too. Well done. :)

Not that I want to come across as mean(which i am actually), but i see all these new chaps who come in, ask 1001 questions, I cant blame them for not using SBF's lousy search function but there's always google. And then, the kiddish mentality that must change this, that aftermarket part.. Haiz..

I rather enjoy a fresh bike, THEN change to the aftermarket parts, one by one, so i can truly appreciate it, and give reliable and worthwhile feedback.

Ohlins, Rizoma, Sliders, blah, blah.. Just a way to jack up the price of the bike. Like a new rider is going to truly appreciate the goodies. I even wonder if you buy such a bike, you get back your stock stuff or it's swallowed up into the pits of the vegetable shope. Hehe.

Oh well, just my 2cents too I guess. Anyway, i love this bike, i really wish i had the time and discpline to fiddle with it. Maybe one day when i'm retired. :)

OMG. hw come u noe! were u there when i told this story?? hahahahaha. so long ago sia, during the carls jr meet up. haha.

Actually if u take into account that my bike was out of action for 3 weeks and i think i worked on it for at least a total of 24hrs, i think the word specialist isnt suitable. lol. Think i graduate from diy sch with certificate of participation only. hahaha

Ashraff, want to double check with you. So for international shipping, if I pay with debit card, i'll be charged extra 3% by the bank on top of standard exchange rates? So now if it's GBP to SGD 2.06, i will be charged 2.09 as conversion? Then after that 7% GST imposed when it arrives here?

I totally agree to you bro. If mechanic tune at their own preference, it's us who feel the pain coz we're the one riding it! I heard about this guy called meng tong from sporting motors. He's specialist in Aprilia bikes. Anyone have ties with him? Thought of trying my luck on him though. haha.

aha so i see u bought the "works RS" version....thats a good initial start up ,the works package cost far less compared to u having to buy it seperatly bar the arrow and Ohlins, the rest doesnt need any tweaking whatsoever...

with regards to tuning... i guess u probably meant tuned to a reasonable state..user friendlyness state as most RS riders here have...

because the best tuner is ...... you,yourself...get a mechanic to tuned to a reasonable state but what 1 mechanic term as good might not suit into yer liking but another rider might find it otherwise....its different riding style...the basics done here are the carbs n exos and u have a bike reasonable enough for street riding but still its riders preference,do the basic set up and start tweaking from there till u get yer ideal set up to suit yer riding style

some may have the best street riding RS125 but when they get to the track, they probably didnt know what hit them when the other slow street riding RS come gushing by or vice versa.

enjoy yer tweaking!

i believed u still have to set the suspension up ...theres the bike sag, rider sag and then u have to get it up to speed n do the minor tweaks to get it up to yer preference based on yer riding style...

their customisation is normally juz based on yer weight to get the correct springs required...

i ditch the stock once it couldnt really match the speed of the bike in a turn...

happy tweaking with the TTX36 or n that front fork too..is it just the front cartridge kit or replaced the whole front thingy?

yup he did up couple of RS125 that won races locally and overseas for quite sometime now..he also did up the bike that just won the 1st 2011 SMSA race (up to 150cc)...I would not have won the race if my RS couldnt keep up with the number of KRs at the long back straight...

but then again like i mention before..they (mechanic) can only do the base setting n its up to u to give good feedback to further improve yr baby...

once u get yr preferred set up ,get her to the track cause thats where she is in her elements..
