Ok, today, some of the guys who live in the North area are planning to meet up..

 

We're meeting kinda late.. at abt 11.30pm at Yio Chu Kang MRT station.. From there we will go to a nearby coffeeshop.. then we have talk c***, sing song session.

 

All who interested to come pls post ur names here.. All are welcome, whether no bike or no license... All jus meet up and get to knwo each other

 

It would be nice if the more experiencec bikers come along also and talk to us newbies..

What do you mean by Bitubo is here?

Everyone knows that they have their dealers here as it wasnt recent that they started here in Singapore.

I am currently selling Bitubo at my shop too. As well as Dunlop, Michellin, Bridgestone tyres; and Braking and EBC brake pads; Micron exhaust systems; Hump Kevlar protective bags; over 800 designs n brands of stickers; and other accessories.

We conduct light servicing like oil change, spark plug, etc...

Above all, we are distributors for Canadian Unil-Opal oils and lubricants. 2T, 4T, gear oil, fork oil, coolants, cleaning solvents, brake cleaner, chain lube, grease, etc...

 

Also have Micron paddock stands. They are universal and can be used for big bikes as well as small bikes.

They have adjustable universal clamps so that it braces the bike up from below the swingarm, rather than using the 2 small pegs on the sides of the swingarm.

 

When buying a 2nd hand bike, always look out for:

 

- rims.

The front and rear should be the same, if they are different, one of them might have been replaced before. Not a good sign. There's very little reason to change rims except if you've smashed them up. Usually accidents serious enough to dent or break a rim may also dent/bend the front suspension fork and the frame.

 

- fork.

Hard to tell if its bent, but check it for leaks. I got a leaking fork and had a lot of problems with it even after replacing the oil seals and internals. It continued to leak and the fork oil made my brake rotor slippery, cutting down my braking power by a lot.

A leaking fork may also mean the stanchion legs are bent, or they are scratched. Scratches may bring dirt and muck into the fork's internals and you really wont like that.

 

- rear shock.

Stock shocks are not Aprilia's strength.... I blew 3 rear shocks (2 of them were brand-spanking new) even when riding without a pillion. I got so fed up I eventually bought a 2nd-hand WP adjustable rear shock with a nitrogen piggyback resevoir. It has served me well so far.

To check for a working rear shock...

- walk to the end of the bike

- holding the tail end with both hands, right the bike up so its not resting on its side stand

- push down hard on the tail

- if the bike goes down fast and comes up slow, the rear shock is FINE. If it springs right back up instantly as fast as it did going down, the shock is blown.

Check the spring and bottom of the shock for sand and oil. Usually the oil leaks out and flows to the bottom of the shock, and sand and grime sticks to the shock due to the sticky oil.

 

- digital readout (display).

This one costs $600 brand new. Get the previous owner to replace it, or demand him to knock off $500 off the selling price.

 

- speedometer, tachometer.

The clocks are pretty cool, but only if they work.

 

- brakes; pump + master cylinders.

Check the brakes for leaking brake fluid. It usually a clear, oily fluid and it means you'll end up spending more cash than you're prepared to after the purchase.

 

Stuff you're likely to end up replacing:

- tyres

- chain and sprockets

- brake pads

 

I've always believed that every rider should take care of his own bike. This preserves the value of the bike. If a bike is in a terrible condition, its the rider's responsibility to restore everything to tip top before selling.

 

I once viewed a bike with Benjamin (amonamarth), the bike was so derelict, it would need at least $2,500 to restore it just to make it look vaguely rideable. I'm not exaggerating. Ben can testify to the bike's leaking fork, brakes, shock, tattered paintwork, etc.

 

Whatever that's broken is the owner's responsibility to restore it. Always remember that. Check the price of replacing the damaged part, and tell the owner to knock it off the selling price.

 

Dont take no shiit for an answer, espcially the common, "Oh, you only need to replace the .... etc etc etc"

You're here to buy a hassle free bike. Not to take a problem off someone else's hands. You're responsible for your own choices and decisions. Choose wisely.

The alphabets you see in front of the numbers are allocated according to the time at which the bike was registered in Singapore. Old plates start with 'A'.

My bike is a 'FR'-plater, which means my bike was registered in 1998. An 'FS'-plater should be registered in 1999, and so forth....

er... I mean they have authorised dealers here that are certified to break open and service your bitubo products? That can actually help you with settings, based on info from bitubo? I'm not so sure, but that's why my friend is so enthu about them. Unlike Ohlins, which right now I'm not so sure who or where to bring them to locally.

 

ps how much is your 2nd hand WP? I asked Biketech21 today, and it's only slightly cheaper than an Ohlins! darn....

got mini gathering meh ???? I reached YCK MRT at exactly 1145pm and no one was there. Called the number listed and someone just didnt top up his HI card. SIANzzz.....

 

Too bad I didnt have Edwin's num. In the end went back home.

This is kinda long but do read it...

 

 

Make a guess as to how much a 2nd hand WP would cost as I will not allow the price to be revealed. Y ? Cos the exact unit in law's bike was once mine. This is a damn good product. Worth every cent I spent on it. Ask lawrence if it gave him the ride of his life without the bouncyness of the original shox.

 

Look out for stuffs installed on law's bike in the next few months. U may want to get the same stuffs for the same ride feeling. Nothing to do with power at the moment but rather getting a smoother and more confident feeling when u twist corners on the street and on pasir gudang itself.

 

If anyone needs advice for power, then I suggest talking to Edwin's bro. For a comfy ride, can either look for me or law. We arent experts but we have tried some products that may have made an impact to the way we ride.

 

Another issue that I would like to raise is ; I hope our forum members can abstain from listing out prices of products bought from shops all over Singapore. I understand everyone loves bargains but lets take a step forward and do it it a more systematic way. If you want to share good pricing, let it be known via PM. eg "Hey guys I got a good deal on breakpads, PM me for details." Enough of people trying to spoil the market as seen from the garage sales. I would like to quote the example of the alpinestar gloves. Read up and you will know.

 

I know recently there has been some issues raised on certain bikeshop ethics. As for this, I would like to meet up with the people involved to provide me the details so that I can conduct my own mini investigations. I dont work for any bikeshop as all of you have known. But I just want to make sure that my friends and fellow Aprilians will continue to have the best to serve them when in need.

 

If there is anything else I did not mention, pls PM me.

They didnt disappear....

They simply weren't informed of the gathering.

 

If someone had told me about it, I'd definitely be there...

Perhaps if you guys were expecting more to turn up, in future, gatherings could be planned ahead?

I usually give you guys a week's notice for DIYs, but for last minute supper gatherings, I dont expect many to turn up due to the last minute notice through SMS.

Some initiative to inform other members through SMS or by calling would be greatly appreciated.....

No everyone can be like you guys, sit in front of the computer 24hrs a day waiting for someone to suggest a gathering and then rush right out at a moment's notice to meet...
