4.5k for FU is avery ex... ard 2.2-2.5k from private seller

Are you sure so cheap from private seller for FU plate? Boonwee's Aprilia, the FY one went for abt 6plus if I'm not wrong, even though he was asking for 9K at 1st..

I think 2.2-2.5 for FU is very difficult to find.. FU is only abt 2 yrs? Think abt 3K is reasonable for private seller.. Anyway, all depend on whether the bike good or not.

Edwin, will you be free to help Vincent check it out?

Water can get from my house as long as you dont use a ton(I'll be paying my dad money to use water lor). Lawrence will be dropping by to supervise and help out although he cant stay thru the whole duration so hopefully sone of the regulars can be around the whole period.. Add your names below.. Thanks for the heads up wacko; this actually sounds a little worrying, what with us riding around on our noticeable bikes.

FU should be closer to 3 years, my FV plate scrambler is already 2 years. Everything depends on bike condition - if it's mint a seller can justifiably ask for a lot, but if it's really crap it should be 3-digit.

I'm so glad Saturday's my day off, I'm really tired, but at least now got chance to sit down and post at leisure.

The most significant discovery I've made lately is that the Replicas and Y2K versions of the Aprilia RS125 have different recommended carburetor jetting settings.

The recommended base main jet settings for Replicas is 145, but for Y2Ks it's 125. This would explain a lot of confusion when those who ride Replicas (eyz, xxees123, Law) share their jet settings with Y2K owners, and when those who change their carbs don't check the jettings before installation.

After switching from 145 to 125 for my carb's main get, my Y2K no longer has any noticeable flat spots (a smooth and progressive powerband all the way from 3k to 11k rpm), and has never run better.

Naturally, I'm not resposible for whatever you do with this info - use at your own risk.

Hi Chris,

Just wanted to clarify with ya.. when you say the recommended base jetting settings for replicas is 145, does that mean it comes in stock condition set like that or do we have to get it tuned up ourselves? And also, is resetting the jetting involve any heavy duty maintance work or is it as simple as just removing the fairings and going to work on them?

I still do have some sort of a flatspot(bike start to vibrate like tat if tat's what you mean) and hope to get rid of it.. So hopefully adjusting the jetting could be the answer!

PS Are you coming tmr for the DIY?? :thumb:

All I know is that 145 is the recommended base setting - whether or not it's also the stock setting, I have no idea.

Altering carburetor jettings is troublesome work, involving removing the carburetor from the bike and then disassembling it. I'd recommend you leave it to a mechanic.

Flat spots are ranges in your engine's rev range where there is a drop in power, though sometimes it can be so bad in some gears as to be a huge loss in power. This forces you to either have to slip your clutch to raise the revs past the flat spot, or to drop a gear or two.

Where in the rpm range is your flat spot? Flat spots are almost usually caused by carburetion problems (though other things like airbox and exhaust issues can also cause them), so changing your carb settings is your best bet.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to this DIY.

Since max power is achieved with a slighly rich mixture, I'm going to live with this jetting for a while, and make a decision to keep it or change it after I've done a top speed run at the track. The last thing I want to do is tip over into lean territory, and bypass the max power sweet spot.

No argument there, but it's kinda tragic if wacko's right and some of them descended from racers during the time when Singapore had a track. Pathetic and sad.

As far as I know, no difference in power specifications between the two generations. What will really affect power is mileage and maintenance. A low-mileage replica that's been well maintained, and which was run in properly, will naturally be better than a comparatively higher-mileage Y2K in lousy condition.

replica has 34mm carb while the y2k has 28mm carb and cdi restriction

y2k uses a newer engine which seems to haf smaller parts and use lesser engine oil but the performance is the same

A replica by now should be quite old already, unless it has been overhauled recently. if not might as well get a newer y2k and put in a 34mm carb... the cdi restriction can be removed thru diy one

Pls dun be tricked by the shown mileage...

for sale :

rotax 122 clutch basket - very low wear, see to believe!

25 piece cdr - brand new $8

17" monitor - flickers when cold $10

castrol chain wax & chain spray - still a lot left $5

Alex, isn't it Extrema that has 34mm carb, not Replica? Law's, fspider's, etc, Replicas all had 28mm carbs.

Benguin, Alex is right, be careful that the mileage on the odometer hasn't been tampered with.

As for CDI restrictions, that's a long story.

The stock carburetor main jet for the 34mm carb (replica) is 155

For our ridiculous weather, it should be within 145-160.

it also depends on wat is ur exhaust, arrows can try 150 for a start, milos 155

if u take off ur air filter, can try 148 and 152

As for the y2k, the main jet should be around 125+- 10

i haf no experience with them & cant come up with any numbers, but u can always trial n error

changing of jets is not very difficult, juz off the petrol, then unscrew the tighteners at the airbox n manifold, finally twist the carb sideways, and open the nut at the bottom...

a point to take note is, everytime u stick in a new jet, make sure u use a new spark plug, coz a worn spark plug can give fake lean/rich indications. Last but not least, it's always better to be a little richer :D

hi guys!

Can anyone help to explain a CDI and what kind of restrictions it imposes? And how is it possible to tamper wit the odometer? I thought those things cant be tinked with?

And wat the implications of a bigger carb? I remember Law told me that no point put bigger/smaller carb on my bike coz the milo kong will make watever setting useless or sumthing like that..

Thanks!
