Has anyone left their RS on the CTE headed towards the direction of AMK, just before the turn off for AMK Ave 3?

They had better move their bike quick, I saw a couple of Msian registered bikes stop when they saw the RS parked there.

Move it or lose...........

I believe its a replica. Shiny black fairings with stickers, similar to Andrew's.

I was on the extreme right lane so I only had enough time for a glance, what caught my attention was the bunch of Msian bikers suddenly coming to a halt when they saw the RS causing the cars behind them to slam on the brakes and horns...........

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.

Left my bike on CTE because my conrod was knocking ard a bit. Was too busy to settle the tow.

Its fine, just need to replace bearings. Probably change piston as well, since its already endured a miserably long 5,800km. Sigh... Anyone wanna accompany me for a void deck overhaul?

anyone usign the stainless steel valve? do u feel any difference? i juz order 1.

I just posted a reply to your question about steel valves here

So check it out and I hope it answers your question.

May I suggest you try posting your queries in the ARC forum in future, where everything's cleverly categorised and there's less junk to sift through? :goodluck:

Oh yes, Ah Pek, most probably doing next week or the week after. I do intend to change my piston every 10,000km. That should keep her in prime health. Thanks, and I'll be needing that torque wrench.

Speaking of parts to change - the latest batch of problems we've been hearing about has made me determined to change my conrod and bearings on my next overhaul. I dont think I'd be comfortable anymore with just a piston change.

Torque wrenches are definitely a good idea :thumb:

10,000 km? is it really necessary to change a piston at such a short interval?

and the trouble with conrod bearing failure is that one cannot tell it is actually happening, perhaps until it is too late.

i suppose then it may be a good idea to change preemptively.

isn't tat a bit fast?? even the manual recommends between 16 - 18k.. thou tat's jus the suggested interval..

but it makes more sense to change ya piston at the same time, since ya gonna dismantle ya top..

so when is the ritual gonna be?? won't it be at a shop?? why void deck?

Wear and tear varies with usage. lacrimosae rides his bike quite hard, and likes to keep his revs high. I thrash my bike on the track. In contrast, CMYRS has posted before that he likes to shift at 5k rpm, and gonggong has also posted that he sometimes moves off at 3k rpm, even when pillioning his wife. Different demands, so different maintenance schedules. Moreover, the consequences of a piston seizing while going at high speed can be quite scary, whether it be on the track or on the road. Can you imagine your rear wheel locking at 120km/h in the middle of a bend, at max lean angle? I confess that I can't  The mere thought makes my balls shrink. A piston seizure at 50 km/h is a lot less frightening, though no less painful on the wallet.

well, that kinda makes sense, but then i really wished that there could be a way of inspecting wear on the 'internal organs' without having to reseal the block with a new set of gaskets - that alone would come up to a few hundred, if one wants to do a thorough job - and that is if one finds nothing wrong inside.

i mean, is there no way to find out one's con rod bearings are failing other than listening out for the inevitable knocking and ringing, or by stripping the engine apart? by then, it *might* be too late, damage may already been done to other parts besides the con rod.

wow... thinking about it, newbies (like me!!) are going to have a tough time trying to go to a bike shop and looking at a shiny new bike, but not able to hear whether things are going wonky 'down there'...

If you are doing a stripping for the bike, I could maybe be of some help to you? Did it twice a few years back and probably wouldnt mind to help out.

gongong,

After what i heard from Cruz, he once told me his bike engine sounds different after crossing a certain RPM.. Unfortunately with a full face and mp3 music blasting in my ears, i rarely hear my engine clearly...

If any bearings on your friend's bike is loose, I think you can hear it once the engine is running regardless of wat RPM right? Conrod bearings and piston loose is more of a knocking sound if i am not wrong.. Not sure what is ringing sound... Is it like a 'cling, cling' kinda sound?
