wha....really black june...

almost buanged just now while coming into multistorey carpark from the rain

 

as i go turn right after goin up the slope my rear skidded....somehow my leg come out n kick the bike back upright again, try to control control, and almost buang into a row of cars! (imagine how much i haf to compensate sia! ) Missed them by only about 3 inches

 

it was all so sudden sia, heng ah!

 

moral of the story: ride slowly in the carpark, especially when it is raining

Anyway, what are the symptoms of finishing brake pads?

My front pads make a small squeakign sound every time i almost come to a stop.

 

Then just now during the rain I hear a kind of gear sound when i use my brakes?! Is that my speedo or is that my brakes?

I'm using a BT90 rear tyre btw. Seems taht the tyre have small hairline cracks here n there.... my friend suggested it might be expired

anyway, found someone who has a spare saitao.

i just want the plastic and headlight set, no need windscreen and mirrors.

he ask me to quote cos he also don't know the market rate then i paiseh to quote him too low a price.

how much shld i offer him ?

servo, what do you think is my problem?? squeaking front fork?

meet me lar... easier to assess.... forks seldom squeak unless both sides run dry of oil.

 

not that expensive. one side is 70bux which includes changing the fork seals, oil, workmanship. done it before.... very nice feel after dat.

if it feels like a pogo stick, then ure in luck, just fork out 350 for a new shock ehehe.

 

else if it still has some damping, just wash ur shox clean. just dun use wd40... it penetrates rubber seals.

Effects of 'expired' tyre:

 

- minor incident = air leakage through the cracks.

 

- major incident = explode on strong and sudden impact.

 

Shelf life of tyre is about a year although many people use more than that, i.e. until the tracks have worn. Check if the tyre has hardened. If it has, it means the rubber can no longer take shock as it used to and it is time to change the tyre. Also, if there are cracks on the tyre, it is a tell-tale sign that it should be changed.

I tried to save some money on tires, decided to continue using my old, worn tires. They were so old they had cracks all over them. The compound had hardened till there wasnt much grip in them left.

During an emergency, I slammed on the brakes hard and the tires just quit gripping.

 

I skidded, knee got pinned under my bike and it got dragged over some distance, tearing the ligament. My bike fairings got scratched, lost my signal lights, chipped my handlebar end cap, twisted my brake pedal and foot peg.

 

I changed to a new pair of Dunlop GPR70 race tires. On top of that I had to get new parts for my bike.

 

And now I have to contend with walking with a slight limp for God knows how long. Still cant climb stairs, run nor squat.

 

I wanted to scrimp on $200, ended up paying for twice as much. Plus I'll never walk the same again.

 

Ask youself - are some things worth saving that extra buck for?

 

Go get new tires!

I was using the bike for a while already before I changed the brakes. They were working fine before the change, and no scratch marks. Just 1 day after the change, the squealing sound started and never went away.

 

prep's fine. got some issues still yet to resolve, so I wont be flying off that soon. Hopefully will fly over to HK in Sept.

Dont wanna sound like I'm gloating, just wanna express relief that I didnt ride my bike today, and I've seen so many prized Aprilias getting damaged. Yikes!

My heart goes out to all of you who met with some form of mishap this week.

Think I'm gonna ride as little as possible this month.

 

OK, I'm not spared of tragic events too.... But this was due to stupidity.

 

1 week of owning the bike, parked on slope, incline is leftside, my side stand too long, bike at rest is near vertical.

SBS Bus roars past. Bike tips over. BANG.

 

Pick the bike up, try to balance it, but my bike too light, falls on the other side. BANG.

 

The 'BANG' was actually my heart breaking. Twice.

 

Luckily, no scratches to fairing, only to handlebar ends, and pegs.

geez... sianz... jus went to check my bike again see wad needed to be done... in the end realised that the right footrest that whole chunk which is held by a metal V-shape thingy broke... only one screw holding it up now... think that's gonna cost me.... sigh

Anyway can i jsut chagne the rear tyre coz front tyre still quite deep (plus i am going bankrupt after getting my FF liao)

anyway, rain can ride la, just do it slowly and have a much longer following distance and test ur brakes once in a while coz if the rain is too big the brakes can get really useless

my chain is currently a lil uneven, causing a bit of noise by the chain rattling off the chain slider on the swingarm.

 

besides the irritating noise, is this a cause for concern? i just re-tightened my chain, and there's still a lot left to go, e.g. the chain hasn't reached its limit where it cannot be adjusted anymore, still far from it. However the chain tension has become uneven and not uniform anymore.

 

i don't think i wanna be changing my sprockets and chain so soon, but i'd just like to know if there are any harmful effects on the rest of the bike besides the chain and sprockets themselves.

 

mech tell me to change, but i don't think it shld be changed yet lei, what u guys think?

hi guys, jus sent my bike for operation in e afternoon...

anyway asked about the brakes cos i have that same squealing noise in the back... was told by the mech i supposed to cange to a typy of special brakes with metallic fillings or flakes or something... is dat true? he told me a name for it but i couldn't remember it

Hi Apprilians..i juz got ma license..so tinkin of gettin a bike lor..2nd hand oso nvm..but between these bikes,which should i choose?? i dun mind speed, wat i want is comfort..money aint a prblm, only maintenance wise..KRR, Sp, rs125//
