i took the train for about 18hr to reach lhasa. it was good!

the scenery along the railway tracks is amazing and the 18hr climb helps to slowly get used to the high altitude.

backpacked to tibet many years ago. from zhongdian, hitchhiked for 13 days before arrival at lahsa! mode of transport is goods trucks...sitting behind gave fantastic views. it's illegal to enter tibet via road except from Qinghai, or fly in from chengdu. took the risk, being chinese and can speak putonghua.

took first hot shower at lahsa after 2 weeks!

went to Tinggri to see Mt Everest and the himalayas from a distance.

went to nearby town of Shigatze and witnessed the Sky burial of 2 teens...illegal to watch. so went up a hill opposite to the site, and watched with binoculars. gross part was when they pulled out the intestines and cut them for the vultures...finale was to crack the skull with a sledgehammer.

exit by the legal lahsa-qinghai route via the arid dessert. so brown and dusty...

on way to sichuan...kena landslide (in was in june - rainy season) so walked in the mud next to the cliff to the next village for few km...otherwise trapped in the previous town for dunno how many days for them to clear the road.

proceeded to jiuzaigou, huanglong for their amazing waterfalls & multi-coloured cascades.

haha, managed to pay local prices...
