at 24k kms, you may not need to change the belt if condition is still good (some SWingers change after 30k+ kms). it is possible to arrange with shop to change belt later but still pay the "package" price; can keep belt with them or take home. belt change can be done when cleaning the transmission assembly (i'ld recommend every 10k kms), since the variators & clutch will be stripped for cleaning.

cheers

How abt rollers and sliders? Is it true they must be changed earlier at abt intervals of 20k km?

I noticed at 1 of the front forks, the black rubber seal/cover(?) is slightly torn and is showing rust...so it's time to replace?

generally so, rollers wear off faster. if not wrong, owner's manual stated change at 18k kms; my last change was at 20k kms, can see side of some rollers flat liow. my 40k kms servicing coming up soon, will check if need to replace but likely to change the 3-in-1 nearer to the "3-nation" tour next Apr... scoob now runs only few times a week :angel:

apart from changing the seal, suggest to do something about the rust coz no point changing seal when the rough rust "spots" are going to damage/tear it in no time. worst case scenario, change the rusty fork :(

thats the dust cover. fork seal is inside. if no leak, dun have to be anxious over it. only the right side one?

if u feel that the front fork is too soft, suggest u harden it or change your fork spring together when changing your dust cover. save on workmanship $.

Yes only the right side one. So if no leak, can still wait...

What's the most economical way to harden forks? Topping up w more fork oil?

a few ways,

  1. change to harder weight fork oil (cheapest mod),
  2. mod the valve (time consuming, but the best result) &
  3. change to harder fork springs (most ex, not bad but cannot soften).

yup, usually around 210~240 inclusive of workmanship n depending on which shop u go to.

heard some pp buy the stuff themselves then get their friend-mech to change for them n pay some kang lui... some savings but i'm too lazy to go through the hassle :p

if seal is not leaking, then no need to change.

but still better to do something to the rust, e.g. gently scrub the rust area down with fine mesh and then clean/oil it regularly; won't cure the rust problem but delays its worsening. else the rough rusty surface will damage the seal as it penetrates moves in-n-out o_O

went to loois jus now to peek ard for maxi scoots. Was quoted 14500 machine for sw400 gt/abs version. otr is 16500 w/ tpft.

Wad I find abt this bike is, very fat/big/heavy. looks gd from the rear. build quality is there. Dunno if this's a gd price. will go n hav a look at the burgman400 before deciding.

I dun like is the 2 ugly shocks n the single disc up front. as for the glove compartment, very small but deep. Nice bike btw but u'll be shock by the weight. or at least i'm...

I LOVE my R1!!!:shades:

Posted

wanna know whether that's a reasonable price? check out these motortiams and compare their OTR quotes (remember to do apple-to-apple comparisons hor):

* Looi's (you've already went)

* Bike Production

* ASPhoon

* Mah

these are the regular places where SWingers are "morphed" :cheeky:

the SW is a heavy machine alright, not the fattest maxi around, but i think its the longest :lol:

you'll love its weight once you get used to it, and you'll appreciate its stability even more when you go up the windy shears bridge or go touring :thumb:

burger4? suggest check out the more updated majesty4. from the forum, the maggy has much more options for aesthetic enhancements and also better resale value than the burger. another important consideration is, what kind of aftersales services (repairs/spares) you can get; Hong Leong (yammy) vs. Guan Hoe (suzs) :cool:

do note that both the burger and maggy run on a single bore engine unlike SW which is on in-line twin... you should get faster pickups on them coz they're much lighter n on single cylinder, but you won't get the stability n silky smooth engine at higher speed ranges for highway commuting n touring. many SWingers (including myself) have cruised comfortably to/fro thailand at 130+kph on NSH :thumb:

you get some, you loose some... see what you prefer lor

is the machine price inclusive of GST?? last time about 2-3 mths ago i went ask..is ard $18k OTR.

Posted

Around march this year the price for Swing400 is 17.5k OTR and this is not the GT version, asked both Looi's and ASP. At 16.5k for GT should be good price if its OTR. I think Looi's will always qoute price inclusive of all charges, they dont hide here and there.

Wish Santa will drop some cash into my stocking..... I promise to be a good boy.:p

Posted

If compare NEW SW price between shops, then 16.5k otr should be quite ok.

If compare with Burgman4 or Majesty4 then that price is too high.

If really got 16.5k to spare... FZ6 at 12.5k still got spare $$ for HB boxes...

i was told machine price depends on the sg-yen exchange rate for each shipment that is bought/brought in. yen was really high but has came down a little lately :p
