when to change belt? depends on how u ride. normally when people change at 35 000km, the belt still looks ok with slight cracks.

you'll never hear belt rubbing sound. the sound is actually due to the clutch slipping. common for silverwing cos bike too heavy. i've a few friends who always do fast acceleration, never have clutch slip problems.

I am hoping to change my belt at 40k km, dun know whether is it possible?

Usually I move off slowly for the sake of fuel economy, but it seems my riding habit could be causing my clutch slip probs. Recently just cleaned up my clutch pads and clutch bell, but after travelling for another 200 plus km, the 'pigeon' noise is coming back again softly now...:sian:

I'm wondering since my clutch bell is already scarred and my clutch pads got uneven wear, can I still continue riding without replacing them? Will it damage any other parts of the engine if I do so? Pls advise, many thanks! :p

there are people who actually ride till 50 000km. but advise not to. cos when the belt breaks, the kevlar strings might break and jam up your pulleys.

if your clutch pads still have remaining, still can continue using. but sooner or later got to change the clutch pads & clutch bell.

if your clutch bell is already scarred, unless u play pick up really fast, u will still hear the slipping sound. fyi changing the bell & the pads dun come cheap. where do u go for servicing?

Anyone know where to getthe original underseat light with on/off switch. I saw it At the Italy sw community forum.

http://66.163.168.225/babelfish/translate_url_content?.intl=us&lp=it_en&trurl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.silverwing400.it%2findex.php%3foption%3dcom_content%26task%3dview%26id%3d29%26Itemid%3d83

Got the Honda serial number but went to FJT and chong aik both shop say they dun carry the parts.

Any ideas where to find if? I find that the light now is wasting battery in the day. When u open the seat it will also turn on.

That day I forget to lock the seat properly and the light was on the whole two days till I rode the bike.

Where to get led Light for it and the pilot light?

try searching the Internet using the part nos and you realise that the light unit is actually for honda cars (e.g. CRX). its also mentioned in the webpage that its size can fit our SW unit.

here’s a similar page but in Japanese language http://emuya.com/sw/tlight/tlight.htm

http://toshi.cside.ne.jp/blogs2k/image/image1215.jpg

http://www.crxsi.com/jdm/ek9-1004248/Electrical-Exhaust-Heater-Interior-Light.htm

if you really want it, try the Honda car parts suppliers instead, but note that parts for Honda cars are not cheap.

a much cheaper alternative is to go Sim Lim Tower (level 3) and buy a switch (smallest and cheapest is about $1 but those with illums will cost more), solder a few wires and connect it to the original wiring in serial format as a “cut-off” switch. you may even choose to mount the switch at the handlebar if desired, just run the wires thru the bike.

many SWingers (including myself) have removed the bulb totally to remove the risk of batt drain when sensor is not working or seat not closed properly (e.g. when we put lots of stuff inside n push close the seat). one malay uncle i met has his batt totally drained coz seat wasn’t closed properly (SW is his weekend bike).

another thing is, the light’s location isn’t really helpful as it is usually blocked when there’re lots of things inside. other than not using any illum, some SWingers put/stick LED lights (with switch) on/under the seat or at the sides.

where to get all the stuffs? Sim Lim Tower is Treasure Island :thumb:

Recently went k&t to change rollers and u-clips, then discovered abt the scarring in the clutch bell. Mileage was abt 20k km. I should have serviced the clutch area earlier to prevent more scarring, so it's my fault. Last heard replacing clutch pads and bell would cost close to 300 including workmanship.

wonder if can use microgrits (very fine) sandpaper to restore clutch bell's lightly scratched surface

changing clutch pegs alone doesn't cost a lot

btw, some riders purposely "un-smoothen" the bell face as a mod... hmmm

revisiting the issue on using car engine oil in SW...

for...

post by mikerust: "There is much controversy about the best oil for motorbikes. As SW doesn't run the oil in the transmission the shear factor for viscosity breakdown does come into the picture so you don't need to buy any fancy motorbike oils. If you have a car and are happy with the oil you use that will be fine.

If you must use an oil highly recommended for motorbikes you will not go wrong with Shell Rotella T synthetic in fact that is the ONLY oil for motorbikes."

SW doesn't run oil in the transmission (shear factor) nor does it have an oil filled clutch (friction modifer concern) and it's water cooled so normal car oil will sufice i.e. Mobil 1.

IMO... shouldn't be an issue for normal riding around in sinkapor, characterised by relatively short trips on this tiny island, regular slowdowns and/or stoppages (heavy traffic and countless traffic lights), non-meter clearing speeds (speed limit already exceed at 5k rpm), etc.

but for touring, i'ld prefer to use motorcycle oils

against...

Because of the engine size they suggested I go with the motorcycle oil and recommended against car oils because of the high temps in a motorcycle motor.

IMO... more protection for higher rpm and running temperature is never a bad thingy, but need to pay for it

avoid engine oils with friction modifier additives?

http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Consumables.html

On the back of most oil cans is a circular stamp with the certification. Avoid oils that say "energy conserving" in the bottom half of the donut. These oils contain friction modifier additives that could cause clutch slipping over time. All XXw-20 and XXw-30 oils are energy conserving, and should not be used in your motorcycle. 10w-40 oils should not be used in a motorcycle that runs the engine oil through the transmission. Don't buy any oil additives like STP or Slick-50.

IMO... SW's clutch is outside and "oil free"... thus friction modifiers are unlikely an issue :p

so how was the mod?

Have to ride a few days to review its performance.. :)

Initial feel abt the handling is good after the mod.

Front fork handling improved. The rear suspension i using setting "7", it's good. Hard enuff for my liking..

Tonight will try the one hand corner like you did... hahha..

I never feel hyper pro springs before, duno is it better or what..

Just now changed my front wheel bearing also.. Ah chong said wrong type of bearing used(correct bearing should have plastic covering bearings) and it will jam when water go in.

Wa lau, Last time my motor tiam change metal bearing type. Lucky I ride 1 year plus never jam lor. seepay Heng..
