The other thing I'm considering is also brake improvements as the beast carries a lot of momentum due to its' weight and I worry I may not stop in time should the need arises one day.

Agreed with you, as there was one incident last year which is still vivid in my mind where I nearly slam into the backside of a cab as it stopped suddenly due to heavy traffice and also the sun was causing some visibility problem as I have no shade on.

I jam braked just in time. My silverwing nearly tipped over by the side but I have no idea how I managed to heave it back to upright position. I can still remember smelling the burning rubber smell.

I was shaking all over after that while riding to work…scary.

So now I am thinking of getting steel brake hose……anyone here has already done it and what is the damage ?

for me, normal use braking is fine. I'm just preparing my SW when I need to e-brake from 130km/h oneday.

I'm just preparing my SW when I need to e-brake from 130km/h oneday.

ebrake at 130km/h? hmmm...

consideration 1: reaction time

* it is proven scientifically that there's a lag between an activity (visual or audio detection) and the actions we initiate in response to the activity.

* suppose rider is attentive and require not more than ½ sec from the time he see car in front e-braking to the time he squeeze his brake levels.

130km/h = 130,000m/3,600sec = 36.11m/sec

i.e. bike travels approx. 18m forward at that speed before rider start to execute e-brake.

* even if rider has very faster response time of around ¼ sec, travel is approx. 9+m before e-brake starts.

reaction time or lag (thus travel) would be longer if rider is less attentive.

consideration 2: stopping distance

* anyone remembered the stopping distance we experienced when taking our class 2A TP tests at the e-brake station?

even with anticipation to start executing e-brake at the white line, the stopping distance is still around 10~12m at 40km/h.

* at 130km/h? i guess e-brake stopping distance would be a lot longerrrrr, provided bike didn't skid :p

* stopping distances of most cars are shorter than bikes despite being much more massive, especially when they most cars are equipped with advanced braking systems and performance tires are much cheaper nowadays.

here's the million dollar question... is there sufficient space between bike and car ahead to accommodate the differential e-brake stopping distances before bike slams into the car's ass or something, even without skidding?

what i'm trying to suggest are...

* safety distances must increase as speed increases

* don't count on e-brake to save our ass when riding at high speeds :p

I am not a senior here. Scooby, SW9000, Helmet Box and Big Cow are. They are the more technical guys. Think there are a few more.

I am more of a reader here :cheeky: When I need help, will post here or sms Mr Daniel.

But I must say, this is the longest ride I have and I sm still loving it.

So if I were to upgrade my braking hose to steel brake hose. It is for better control and better reaction thought nothing is going to save us if we do not keep a safe distance regardless of what speed we are travelling.

well said, bro. :thumb: the beauty with SW is it's so easy to hit high speeds.

what I meant earlier is to stop better than the vehicle in front when in emergency (as it's also moving) and not really to hit a wall

if the vehicle behind cannot stop better than me, at least I can also control to stop further by easing on the brake.

imo, it's better to have the best brakes so that the control is on my end rather than depend on fate or somebody else. part of this safety also requires not tailgating the car infront :)

wah, you very modest leh :cheeky:

I heard some say need to customise to cut the hose to SW sizes. I prefer factory-ready-made lengths for our SW. Do let me know if you find out where / what to do as I want to change also.
