Woohoo! Finally got my silverwing out today bu the excitment was killed as TP sTopped me and saman me for my helmet visor. Really unlucky. But the bike is great and I also put the H&B top box.

100km done on my SWT.

Engine oil and oil filter changed. Box fixed. BMW grip and balancer done.

Engine synchronised.

 

Observation:

Seat is definitely softer then previous model. Almost like memory foam type of feel.

Riding posture same same.

Front compartment too damn small. Right side got difficulty installing the IU.

Dashboard got new digital that shows average FC.

And.. underseat light got on/off swtch!!

 

What to watch out for:

 

1. EO from shop is too thick. Probably used 15W50. Slow and laggy like turtle. Changed to 10W40 liao now swee swee. Running-in at 5k rpm (90km/h) no problem.

 

2. Air/fuel mix too lean. I think stock comes at 2 full turns (same as my old SW). The vacuum pressure measured was only 19. Turned it to 1.75 turns and the pressure went up to 21. Will probably change it to 1.5 turns or set the pressure at 24. My previous SW was 23 and 1 super fast SW from Bukit Panjang even set at 26.

Tmax...

Best suspension. Didn't feel the bumps and mirror very clear even at high speed.

Good throttle response for acceleration, very light and nimble.

Brakes are very good. Front and back don't mix.

Easy EO change but difficult to change spark plugs.

Looks damn fierce!

 

But... a bit noisy becos the engine more forward.

Wind blast from 100km/h onwards.

I felt stress on shoulders due to low handle bar. Was very bad in 1st week but much better during the 2nd. But can't imagine riding for 10hrs to Hatyai.

Moving off is good but some lag up to 4k rpm. After that, super easy rev. *Shiok shiok.

3 air filters and 700ml gear oil per change.

So many things to strip... how to synchronise engine?

 

SW/SWT...

Best riding posture. Never gets tired for long distance ride.

Acceleration is smooth and controlled.

Very quiet... unless you put loud loud exhaust.

Very little wind blast until after 130km/h.

 

But... wobbly front end is a sometimes-have-sometimes-don't-have problem.

The suspension sucks! Front is either too soft and comfy but will scare you in corners or a bit hard that bumps can be felt through your palms. Almost compulsory must upgrade. The small wheels also play a part.

** SW comes standard with 10wt fork oil that's why handling very soft and floaty.

** SWT however felt much more stable (fork damping changed or use heavier oil? must open and see) but can feel some bumps on uneven roads.

 

Why can't they combine both Tmax performance with SWT riding posture?

hi banx007, welcome to the SW gang

 

regarding the knocking sound at idling, it depends on what u mean...

 

... if it is a soft continuous and evenly regulated "tik tik tik..." sound from underneath the seat (more audible if seat is lifted), then it should be the sound of SW's timing system in action (aka timing belt). every SW has that sound and it gets slightly louder as the bike age. rev the engine gently on main stand and let go throttle, sound should still be "tik tik tik..." without any metallic "clanging" sound

 

... if it is some uneven metallic "clanging" or vibrating sound, especially clear when you rev (on main stand) and let go throttle quickly, those could be sounds of trouble. go BS and get them to check it out under warranty, but be prepared to leave bike there for a few days (turnaround at BS could be rather slow). if you bang table hard enough, they may even provide you a temp bike till your SW is discharged; temp bike won't be a SW but some smallish economical bike, better than having to take bus/taxi

Seat lock repaired. Took 2 mech from Boon Siew abt 2 hours to do it.

I think they now got more white hair than me liao.

 

Bought a spare key at $40 at BS too. KNN so ex.

Salesman said the new key cost more.

 

Then go KC and installed my Stebel Magnum, voltmeter, radiator mesh, ERP IU.

Saw rider 'chili' there with his gunmetal Tmax and HB box. Nice.

FC at 90-100km/h = 23km/L

 

Please go get your bike fast fast then can go Thailand together this Nov.

The $18k SWT600 ai mai? Better suspension, better seat (memory foam type) and looks good.

set off Sat pm, jalan jalan + makan + night market, sleep and return on Sun late morning; can avoid jam hrs going in and on return

 

a very convenient lodging is Puri hotel, located inside jonker walk area. its twin room is RM160++ or RM184 nett (~S$40 ea) but read that it has an open car park (1 street away) and a locked car park along same street (a shophouse convert). nostalgic it may look, but inside seems nice from the pics.

near (almost opposite) to Puri is Baba house boutique hotel, charging around RM120++ (~S$30 ea) for a twin room. think the parking is along streets in front and behind the hotel (their own), doesn't sound safe to me.

if willing to walk further, there's a nice budget lodging at Hall Mark hotel, charging RM 115.00 nett (~S$25 ea) for a twin room over Sat night. from pic, it has parking lots in front of the hotel but dunno whether it is guarded or compound is locked at night.

there's actually another interesting place to bunk in, Hangout hotel with reasonable pricing for a very convenient location inside Jonker area. RM140 nett for a twin room (~S$31 ea). sad thing is, it doesn't have safe parking (i've emailed them) so parking is "public" places along the streets; sounds unsafe too.

haha....back to SW400. I was surprised when he decided for the T Max.... cos the riding posture is out for me and I expected SW9000 to feel the same....
