wat spin37 is talking abt is using the variator holder to hold the variator in place so that it doesn't move. then u can use a normal wrench or spanner to open the variator. this had been done abt 6 years ago by a forumer.

to remove the whole clutch system, it got nothing to do the the variator. just jam your brakes will do the job. but to remove the clutch bell, you'll need a very big socket together with a impact wrench to do so. because the nut is big, thus holds stronger.

this variator holder is a very good to have thingy. its always good to have one. i ever experince the variator nut not tighten tight enough due to over looking. when its loose, your bike will move once engine is start & when stop, the bike is very difficult to push.

actually its to hold the variator so it will not rotate and can use a spanner to open it..jam brakes will not hold the variator in place cos its free driving when engine not started..

2 roads diverged into a wood, and I-I took the road less traveled and that makes all the difference!

babo: Normally once it blinks @ around 270km, i wil go pump arz around 13/L ( i didnt see the litres also arz once full @ e brim i stop pumpin le... ) I pumped Shell98 de...

scooby: if you are consistently clocking 270km with 13L, your FC is about 20.8km/L; ok for a JDM6 but on the high side for a JDM4 (read that some clocks about 22+km/L)... but a lot depends on age/mileage of bike and how you whack the throttle. for example, my 2006 manuf. 27+k kms euro4 usually clock about 25km/L (SW9000's even better) on Esso 5000 but there's someone in the group who consistently clocks around 23km/L :p

babo: I just took over tis bike not long ago ( about 1mth ) but from what i know it's not Mod... Mayb i can go check it...

scooby: what's the age n mileage now? have you done servicing after taking over? stock or modified? it is strongly recommended to know your ride well enough coz its not only a transport, but that one thing that could cause lots of inconvenience (e.g. batt flat) or even cost your life (e.g. accident). if already >24k kms, suggest get mech to check the transmission assemblies/pullies (rollers, belt, clutch, etc.) apart from the normal eo/filter change.

babo: N oso does it varies anot e fuel comsumption if i'm ridin a JDM de ( more heavier, differ rollers, differ method of ridin, etc. ) as i know u guys mostly ridin EURO...

scooby: generally, the stock euro has better FC over the stock JDM... think mainly becoz euro uses heavier rollers and JDM has the "overtaking" switch. nevertheless, a lot depends on the riders' "wrist power"

i ride slowly & smooth smooth go up de arz e speed... Mayb i love the power so i tends to turn abit more during my ride home @ night after my night shift... Does my FC hints mi that sumthin is faulty..?

Nope, i have not done any servicing only changed the EO not long ago as e ex-owner initiated tat he had juz changed e belt & battery ... E bike is 3yrs old & e mileage is @ 60K+.... It was told to be a stock to mi...

So does it mean tat if i use heaiver rollers it will helps my FC abit..?

Lastly, realli thanks for e advise. I'm stil a noob to scooters...

below are some of the things you might wanna consider... especially the brakes n tires...

safety checks before riding off:

~ check all lights working (head/high, rear, signals, brakes)

~ test horn, brakes

~ check petrol, eo, brake fluid levels

~ make sure tires have sufficient pressure

~ check coolant level

then i'll go make sure my bike is properly maintenance for safety/performance:

~ with 11+k on odometer, probably no need to change transmission set (rollers, belt, sliders), no need to change air-filter, no need to work on clutch assembly, no need to flush/change coolant unless you want "special stuffs" (heard the stock coolant is very good and can last a 2-3 years no issue)

~ do change engine oil & filter, change gear oil (i will change regardless of what the seller says)

~ check/change spark plugs

~ check tires condition and age (i'ld change when near 3yrs old even if threads are good)

~ check brake pads

~ check battery age and voltage (charge if necessary)

~ check fork seals n test their dampening (consider if want to change oil)

after those are done, then i'll start considering the add-ons and enhancements such as...

~ loud electric horn (strongly recommended)

~ power abusers, voltage stabilisers, revtec, etc

~ hazard lights

~ "blink-blinks"... hahahaha

~ etc, etc, etc

welcome to the club

unscrew the engine oil cap and see for youself how clear/black yr engine oil is....

frankly, not many ppl service if they have intention of selling.... unless there is an invoice to proof... anyway, an oil change is so cheap for a SW...no harm changing...it shd help the FC a little...

agree with paithorn... many sellers are full of bullshits

not really that cheap lah... 2.2L (need 3 bottles for 1st change) + filter could easily cost >$100 (e.g. if motul 300v) depending on what juice you put in.

but cheap if compared to your 100 spark :p

the regulars here use motul, luqui moly, maxima, amsoil, etc. (in decending price).... take your pick

diff between 400 & 600?

many answers in Silverwing 400cc / 600cc Tech Corner (http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/images/misc/multipage.gif 1 2)

biggest difference to a buyer... no new units for 600 unless you PI

400 enough for touring?

yes & no for the touring maxi-scoot... depends on terrain n intended speed. SW is not meant for some terrains (e.g. off road). on the road, we went thailand comfortably cruising at 120~140km/h on the NW. prolonged legs at speeds near top speed (160+ but gps logged 154) is definitely not advisable. in fact, some friends in the hatyai trip spoke well of the generous space (abt 100L including top box) and comfort we enjoyed :shades:

Not easy to lower from 1k+ bikes to 400cc.

The power diff is a lot and also must endure ppl zooming past you at NSHW in their bigger bikes @180km/h++.

haha, sometimes I wish there is a switch to change the gear ratio at high rpm so that I can cruise at 180km/h too.

But hor, SW should be loved for things other than speed.

1. Storage

2. Looks

3. Ride position(s)

4. Quietness

5. No left forearm exercises (for clutch) during city rides

6. Won't get wet easily during drizzles

etc, etc

600 definitely got more power (slightly higher FC at 21km/L). Don't think there's much diff in the top speed. ** Small wheels can go fast anyway.

I don't like to strain my bikes.

If max rpm is 9k for SW (@160km/h), I would keep within 80% for cruising and that's about 130km/h.

At that speed and no stress on the bike, I would think it'll bring me to Chiang Mai 1 of these days.

just came back from "screwing" around with my bike... whahahahaha

air screws now at right 1.8 turns, left 1.6+ turns (balanced to right)... richer than factory setup, will see if engine is more responsive (hopefully FC dun suffer too much)
