There's one legendary guy I know can go 160kmh on a SW, turning and with only one hand on handlebar :) Personally, 140kmh is the max cruising speed I will ride it.
Good enough..Even during my sport bike riding days most of the time the slower ones will reached once we topped up our tank...There was a time where my frd and I were discussing....Our speed is often beyond 200kph...But slower bikes like super 4 and tmax still reach the R&R within 10-15 mins...Verdict is the average spd is only about 140kph or so when in a group....

If you don't want to change tyre. you can do a proper tyre mending where they take out the tyres and patch from the inside.

Hi all,

Any things to solve squeaky brakes. My bike's brake has been squeaky since day 1. I thought it will go away after run-in. But it's been 6 mths with 4000km mileage. I hate the squeaky sound when going down-slope in the multi-storey carpark.

Posted

bro, your bike is brand new or resale? sounds like it's new.

squeaking sound are cause by vibrations. some possibilities could be:

* brake pads not bedded in yet, thus not having a proper grip

* there's glazing on either or both the rotor or pads (doesn't mean gentle braking won't cause glazing)

* dirt trapped in the pistons of the brake assembly, causing uneven grips

* oil or grime on the rotor and/or pads

* warped rotor disc, especially if you regularly wash your bike while it's still hot, e.g. at bike wash. rapid cooling of the rotor causes it to warp (happens to cars' rotors too).

Super tired riding in rain to hatyai.

But Asian hotel made up for it with super giant king sized bed.

Slept early cos not hormy.

Day 2:

Left hotel at 8.30am and reached Huahin at 5.30pm. 9 hours ride. Not bad.

Manthana hotel got very nice clean rooms and night market just next door.

Went for the 220 baht pork chop... Super big. Almost cannot finish.

Day 3:

Traffic outside bangkok was still bad. Slowed down but still able to reach Kamphaeng Phet Nawarat hotel very early. Nice hotel receptionist. Room was also very good. Furthermore, 2mins walk to the pre-loykrathong pasar malam.

Day 4:

Visit Sukhothai historical park. Eye opener and location was full of stalls for the loykrathong celebration as well.

Reached Chiang Mai at 5pm. Was raining. Alamak.

Went for 1 hour foot massage at 150 baht only.

Day 5:

Today visited Doi Inthanon, the highest point in Thailand. Was superly cold riding in bmd at 13 degrees. Only Robin was in full riding gears. Very clever. Also visited the 2 beautiful temple near the top.

Day 6:

Morning too a ride to Doi Suthep temple. Drizzling. Nice temple in gold.

Can either climb the super long steps up or pay 20 baht for the cable elevator, similar to Penang hill type.

Entrance was 30 baht.

Then visited X- Centre for lunch. Thats where most of the adventure things are happening in Chiang Mai. Got ATV, painball, go kart drift, bungee jump, etc. We didn't try.

Tonight got giant parade. Will get HRO to get more mei mei photos.

Tmr... Finally... Golden Triangle!

U guys bike is really tokong. Can go for so long n so far. Wondering not sure my 6years sw can do the same or not.

There's only one way to find out  But I'm sure can.

Posted

yalo... if your SW is well maintained and with no bad luck, i don't see why a 6 year old SW can't make it there-n-back.

nevertheless, having those still working but "near due" critical items changed before going for long tour helps a lot. e.g.

* belt, rollers & u-clips (aka 3-in-1 set) if they are near or exceeded 20k km

* ~2 years old battery (can buy in M'sia or Thailand, not exact model also can temp use)

* ~2 years old tyres (regardless of condition for safety)

* ~3 years old magnetic coil & rectifier

* etc

average breakdown cycle for SW's magnetic coil seems to be around 2~3years, shorter for those who tour regularly. if coil and/or rectifier are already around 3 years, it's an insurance to have it changed before touring. suay suay breakdown overseas then jialat liow. my coil got "ill" when we toured to Melaka but luckily, it didn't die totally (output only about 11V even at 5+K rpm) and tong all the way till back in singapore. else i'll have a hole in my pocket to bring scooby home... >S$300 :pity:

even if got bring spares, it's not gonna be easy cos still gotta find someone who knows how to fit. heard from an old-timer that there're no SW in Thailand and only about 6 in M'sia (bought in S'pore). i ever asked a mechanic (who's based in KL) where we could get the SW serviced and he said don't bother, just call for transport and send the SW back if it breaks down in M'sia.

here's a thread on towing bikes back...
