Anyone used Coocase?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I went over to Chiap Lee, visited Coocase website http://www.coocase.com/

and saw some of their videos on youtube

Seems pretty neat, this Coocase. Features aside, does anyone who have actually used them have any comments or reviews on Coocase boxes? Like if its sturdy, it's maximum weight? I'm quite interested in the 48l version.

I'm quite torn between this and Givi's E52 but from my experience with Givi, their breaklights sucks like crap!!! Within 3 weeks of buying it the break lights blew and I couldn't find any shop or official distributor of Givi to have them replaced. At least if anything is wrong with a Coocase, I know I can go to Chiap Lee to fix them.

Do a search, some older threads got discuss. Max weight 10kg, quite sturdy. Chiap Lee installed mine with plastic, ask for steel if possible.

Personal review

Good +

- Electronic remote really convenient

- Locking mechanism works as advertised, someone attempted to pry-open but was unsuccessful and left scars. Just a one off case, but food for thought.

- 48L can hold 2 FF with room to spare

Bad -

- Spare key attached to remote is flimsily held by a simple screw. Will dislodge if use often.

- Although got alarm, volume is not loud and not adjustable.

- When open case fully there is no 'holding mechanism'. There's a simple latch to hold the lid in place but not 100%, lid will fall shut if not careful.

You are right about Chiap Lee, they have been helpful whenever I go back to them (219) for free troubleshooting and fixing. All in all an OK product.

Me using the Coocase 48L without remote, alarm...

Like kainSV said, the box is hardy, room to spare even with two helmets inside (I am putting my Nolan full-face, which as quite a big outer-"shell" and my wife's MHR OF-505 inside, still have a bit of space left.).

You are most welcome to view my box, if you want. PM me if interested.

BTW, I am staying in the West area, but NOT far west like Jurong Point area.

Cheers.

Thank you for your great reviews! I do need that 10kg since my laptop alone is already 2kg++ and I always like to carry along 500ml bottle of water with me.

I like the fact that Coocase 48L looks like the back of a car! Please enlighten me on this though, when the bike is moving does it have back lights? And when I step brake, will there be another layer of even brighter lights?

Or is there only just a brake light?

Sorry to disappoint you, I think for Coocase, there is no brake lights. At least for my 48L box, the guy at 219 Shop said no brake lights.

Correct me if I am wrong, other Coocase users. :)

The thing I like about Coocase is colour matching for most bike colours. Interchangeable too if you like to have different colour for different rides.

My ASTRA 48Litre does come with brake light thou.

the prob with coocase:you MUST buy the inner liner,or you risk damaging your helmets that are bouncing around in the box! cos the million screws will scratch your helmet.

storage wise, damn excellent.and the box looks good too.i'm using the astra..

Bro, can I ask how much is that inner lining??

Where to buy? Can buy from 219 Bike shop??

When I bought my Coocase rear box, they never recommend or mention anything go inner lining for sales too lei... :)

For me, spare helmet always in the helmet bag when inside the Topbox. My own helmet not a problem at all since helmet in box means bike in parking lot.

givi e52 is made in malaysia... maybe you should try those made in italy...?

e52 Maxia is made from Italy. I checked with Mah Motors last month because I wanted this for the bigger capacity but was told it was sold out. They also have a section for GIV boxes made from Malaysia.

TS: Better if you call Mah to check. Skali you want to buy also dun have. Anyway, it's worth it to go down to their GIVI showroom to check. The person there was very helpful when I was there. I bought the Coocase only because GIVI was not in stock.

Yes, you are wrong because my 48L(no remote) has brakelights and it is installed by 219. The bottom of the case has a metal pins to attach to the wire at the base plate. Unless the person did not install properly for you.

For Coocase, you can buy from Chiap Lee but it will be installed at 219. I felt the installation experience could be better. The Chinese person installing it wasn't sure how to install. Sometimes another guy, another customer and myself all need to help out! And my bike had parts stripped and the bike screws were mixed with the box rack screws! Thankfully, everything was put back... I think! Chiap Lee gave me a new box but I discovered the box lid could not close properly. So they gave a dusty display box instead!

But so far not much complains about the box. I like the way it holds up the box cover when it is opened.

Damnzz.. I feel a bit cheated, cos the Malaysian guy who installed for me told me that the "red, reflective" portion at the back of the box is "for show" only, no brake lights... Also I didn't see any metal pins or wire at the base plate. Maybe I go double check again tomorrow when I start up my ride to go work... Cos since that guy said no brake lights, so I trusted him and didn't bother to check...

Yes, I liked the way that the box cover is being held up "permanently" when I am keeping my wife's and my helmet... I saw my friend's GIVI box, the box cover cannot open and stay "permanently", which is also why I decided to get a Coocase, instead of a GIVI. Another reason is also the out-of-my-budget price for a GIVI box when I visited Mah Motors.

I believe the 48L should be just 2 models right? One with remote, the other without. I don't think there is another that is without brakelights.

You will need to remove your box to check if there are metal connectors for the brakelights.

Thanks for your input. Right now I am actually torn between Givi E55 Maxia or Coocase 48l. I do have a no. of things to put. The raincoat plus bike cover alone is already around half. Have not count my laptop/lecture notes and helmet. I need one box that is able to hold all this.

I want to refrain from getting side boxes because they are expensive and I heard it affects the aerodynamics of the bike at high speed. I also want one with brakelights cause I believe in safety first, although having brakelights on the box being safer is something I admit is highly debatable.

If you are putting only 1 helmet, either box shd be able to accomodate since the chance for all of the items you mentioned are put in the box is low?. If you are riding, the helmet will not be in the box. Vice versa if you are using the laptop.

If your box can have brakelights its a bonus for safety. You would still have your bikes rear brakelight anyway.

Coocase is distributed by Chiap Lee. Maybe you can give them a call.
