After my first post of considering of buying a CBR400RR, thanks to the replys and PM from fx110. It's time for me to donate some input to this community.

All we know that engine power deside how fast you can go, it is no way to push a honda monkey to 150km/hr(stock condition). But the transmission system is as important to translate the engine power into speed, put a KR's gear ratio in to a R6 confirm waste the 130 Horsepower. However, speedometer is alway some standard error there and not everyone has GPS meter to know how much difference it is on your bike. It is a bit confuse me when i found my RS250 with 60whp and around 40kg lighter than a CBR400RR which very hard to brake 200kph but a less powered, heavier weighted and jap speed-restricted bike can hit 220~240 easily or clear meter all the way on just 4th gear.

After a bit of calculation. Here i want to present the theoretical speed map of all the models of CBR400RR based on the technical spec provide by fx110

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/fx110/modify/CBR400RR/CBR400RRmodels.jpg

note: The model J/K will be set to use a 150/60/18" rear tire and model L/N/R will be set as 150/60/17

From the map we can't know about the acceleration which is also very inportant but since there's no one had DYNO all models so no way to know the power range and accelerated ability difference. But we can see that actually during the evolution of CBR400RR, the gear ratio is become loosen and toward higher top speed.

But still, for a de-restricted stock CBR400RR.

1)220KPH is very hard to achieve

2)Model N is same compare to Model L in aspect of top speed. Two engine had same horsepower and revving range, i assumed they had identical power map.

3)Model R have almost same gear ratio to Model L/N. That means if your Model R is capable to rev high(above 12k prm) at 6th gear, your top speed should be no slower than a Model L/N. A little bit behind in acceleration might the only different?

According to this, I've made up my mind to get a Model R instead of Model L. I'll de-restrict the 180kph-limit and maybe up 1 teeth at rear spoket, should be nice enough though :)

Hopefully this thing can at least do some little help to somebody in doubt of speed:cheers:

my selling price was at least $5500.. :) and many people say so expensive..

Expensive?

Bought mine at close to $4k, had invested close to $2k so far to keep it in good shape, i'm not even close to restoring it to its full glory. Still so much to do... :sian:

Babyblades being a rather old bike, needs alot of tender loving care, and if we're not decent mechanics, we gotta pay someone to do it.

Thankz for your adv earlier on guys n fx110... in d end so many tings need to change, coil lh, radiator leak lh, n dunnoe wat else.... :faint: jus waiting for the call from shop say how much

Case in point.

Upping 1 teeth at the rear sprocket seems like a wise choice to do. For some reason my R model seem to get stuck somewhere around 13,000.

Maybe that 1 teeth will help it to push towards the redline of 14000.

Anyway do note that the main jet for both the L and R is slightly different with the L using a slightly larger main jet(maybe thats the one that constitute the slightly higher horsepower for WOT (wide open throttle) operations) .

Check the manual for the exact size cant really rmb it off my head haha

Is the stucking only happen at 6th gear? If it's the case then ya, maybe the stock gear ratio a bit too loose for model R. The jetting different i think it's part of the re-work with model R, to fit the 53p limit, maybe even the intake and exhaust duct size will be slightly different? However model R has the highst compression ratio which i think make it a good start point if you really want to mod it for power. Intake duct polish/Jetting/(programable) CDI and full kit pipe should give more power back to this little blade. I know my friend's shop in Taiwan they mod a S4 vtec2 few years ago to 60whp and can rev to 15000rpm with better power extention! This engine definitely got some more potential there can be dig out.

But to me, to up 1 teeth in the back is just a thought to get better acceleration and if, i want to bring her to PG to try the different feeling. I'll have a better gear ratio to use all my 6 gears.

Hopefully soon i can get my little blade and have some fun with you guys:thumb::cheers:

Yep i managed to clear up to 14500 at 5th wihch equates to around 200 to 205 on my meter but on the 6th only managed to inch a bit forward.

Thats what i guess, the jet kits and exhaust are reworked to fit the power limit in japan at 1993 when R model is manufactured. not sure abt the intake though.. maybe can special mod a "ram air" lol maybe its the CDI timing which might be timed a little retard to reduce the power at top end. (correct me if i'm wrong lol)

Weird thing its got the highest compression ratio among the nc29s but restricted hp and torque, i've heard that the nc29 can fit in rvf's pistons for increased compression ratio (not too confirmed but i've heard from friends)

In pg i only managed to use the 1st 4 gears most of the time so far topping out at around 180+ km/h on striaghts before corner comes. either dun have enough road to hit 5th or no point trying to hit 5th lol if u wanna use all 6 gears maybe u wanna up at 2 behind lol.

Other than a ram air and rvf pistons or maybe bore up kit i shouldnt be short of much stuff. oh ya CDI too lol last i tried to test a supposingly HRC CDI for nc29 my bike wouldnt start lol maybe its for L model or something.

Well, 14500rpm@5th gear almost euqal to 13000rpm@6th gear and if the power drop after peak make it hard to push forward then that's the end of story. We'll need Dyno to see how the power map is like but however i think can reach 14500rpm@5th gear it's good enough though.

I guess on the Model R, they maybe reduce the air intake alongside with the little jet niddle to limit the power but keep good A/F ratio for proper burning. Maybe the Fire timing in the CDI also bit different as you said but i guess not very big difference there, don't know if programable CDI can be applied to CBR400RR since i've saw these kind of things goes well to S4 vtec.

Again it's hard to tell how much regain the air and jetting is "enough", can try from different combination of intake(High through rate filter/no filter), jetting, exhaust pipe header size(stock/end can/full kit) and check A/F ratio, spark to see how much the cylinder can take then finetune it.....sounds very tiring job to do hahahaha. I'll be happy if a High through rate air filter and full kit pipe enough to give better upper range power and extension. I do know header also affect a lot......But pipe seems a problem in SG, will they check the header during inspection when you have a legal end can?

Come to PG performance, it is very important to accumulate top speed that how fast you pass Turn1, how soon you can open the throttle into 2nd straight and how late you let go the throttle in to Turn 2. Cos i think based on our horsepower(50~60whp), speed increase will be slow after 170~180kph. My personal exprience is that you can easily get 15kph difference at same bike by different riding pattern through Turn1 - 2nd straight. So drop 1 or 2 i think it's case by case thing hehehe, but still few fast CBR400RR rider there although i dun know how their bike's mod but for sure their bike reach at least 190kph at back straight.....Maybe we can do some research on PG next time? Although i only have RS250 now :p

Cheers,
