Hi all,

I hope you guys can help me - I'm planning a big trip, starting in Thailand and finishing in Singapore. Anyone has experience with crossing the border from Thailand to Malaysia ?

Do they stamp your passport during immigration or scan it ? I heard some people had problems with passports that were not stamped - anyone heard something about that ? If I don't get stamped at the border, where can I get it once I'm in the country ?

Are my details entered into some computer system in the border crossing so that I can prove I'm legit ?

And another thing - the official site says I need to show proof of getting a yellow fever vaccine, anyone know anything about that ? was anyone ever asked to show such proof ?

Thanks guys :)

Hi bro,

Are you a Singaporean or a citizen of any of the Asean Countries?

Are you crossing from Thailand using the Sadao Border to Malaysia's Bukit Kayu Hitam or the other one into Kelantan?

Who's the ownership of the bike that you're gonna ride into Malaysia?

Steps to do a proper KNNBCCB with middle finger.

1. Bow down slightly, looking intensely at objective

2. Like a raging bull, hop and jog slowly towards objective

3. Take your left palm and slap it hard on the right mid-arm with a SLAP!

4. With charisma, raise right arm, whilst showing middle finger (with left palm trapped in bend right arm)

5. Shout! KNNBCCB

Hi

I am a guy from the UK riding my dream big bike trip (see http://www.viewfromthesaddle.co.uk and http://www.bikersoracle.com/vfr/forum/showthread.php?t=87703)

I posted a message to the HorizonsUnlimited.com Singapore community and they suggested I ask in this forum, so "hello" and:

Darn! A close friend has decided to get married which means I have to fly to Paris early May 2009. i am currently in KL but am looking to ride down to Singapore (as it is much cheaper to fly from there) have a look around, then fly to Paris for a week before returning to Singapore then KL.

So I was wondering if anyone was in Singapore, or knows someone who might help, who could put me up for a few nights and/or offer some secure parking for my bike while I fly as this would help me no end.

Many thanks

Paul aka ViewFromTheSaddle aka karter257

Hi Paul.

You can park your bike at my workplace. it's free, with 24hr security guards.

It's also got our MRT (Tube) system that can take you to the airport.

Lodging, you might want to consider a budget hotel in the vicinity.

Welcome to Singapore. :p

Cheers seven311, have emailed you.

Got any budget hotels to recommend?

at 0.5 GBP/day it is remarkable cheap. Would you consider it safe? Do I pay before or after - just in case I end up spending two weeks away instead of one.

It is relatively safe parking at the airport. If you're worried, you can take some precautions by having a bike cover or locking your wheels.

If I'm not wrong, you only pay after you leave the carpark. I just remembered they are using the electronic parking system, which requires the use of IU, so I do not know if your bike will be able to pay the charges or even enter the carpark.

But first you have to get your bike into Singapore, from what I have heard it ain't that easy. I have heard of many european bike travellers facing problems at the checkpoint, becasue their vehicle is not Malaysian or Singapore registered, so better check this one out

The best thing would be to hook up with a local biker that can help store some of your gear while you're away. Your lid, boots and stuff. That way, you could park at his place and also have him babysit the stuff you don't need in France so you can travel light.

Also, you don't have to put them into your bike luggage and risk getting them broken into. Truth is, yes... Singapore does indeed has a low crime rate... but that is far from being "no crime". While bikes being stolen here are few and far between, there are cases of bike luggage being broken into, and also parts theft.

There are expatriate biking communities in Singapore. Go forth and touch base with them. I'm guessing they won't mind befriending a Brit who's on an adventure of a lifetime, and spare him a bit of space in their homes as well as parking for your bike.
