[Discussion] The Anti-Virus, Spyware, Malware thread

Hi,

I'm currently using AVG Anti Virus (Free Edition) for my lappy. Think its time to upgrade to a full version. Should I just get the AVG Internet Security? Or are there better alternatives.

I am using my lappy for work as well so most of the data are valuable to me. My lappy runs on Vista by the way.

Thanks in advance for all comments.

i'm also using AVG free for my home pc, but in conjunction with adaware, javacools spyware blaster & spybot S & D.

ccleaner for registry clean up and privacy

defraggler for hdd maintenance & defrag

and in case i have to really kill a file and not be able to recover it - file shredder

so far so good, but of course since all free for home use, there is no auto update and stuff, and have to ensure that i do weekly updates and checks and scans.

for work i use a company lappy and we have corporate edition norton set up

but i still use the freeware spyware to help bolster that

Grounded... :/

I would ask you to go with kaspersky... they having a special in funan right now... challenger... you can check it out there

- Undertail exhaust. It was not the Ducati 916 (as may people think) that was the first production bike with such a design, but the NR750.

- Single-side swingarm. Actually, this was not a new concept on the NR750. But it was not a new concept on the Ducati 916 (again, as many people think) either! The RC30 race bike and 1988 Honda Hawk GT Had it!

Not bad ;)

For my computer, I'm using AVG because it's lightweight and friendly on my computer, not as annoying as Norton (with its frequent "are you sure you want to do this?" alerts)

Same goes to COMODO Internet Security, and Spybot S&D.

And not to mention, ethical internet surfing habits.

On the other hand, if you know you frequent porn, hacking evangelist, crack and software patching, file sharing websites, as well as websites you feel is suspicious, an internet that offers expert-level ad and malicious-software- blocking utilities should be good for you. But that's from an experts point of view.

However, the adage still stands: Nothing's perfect, and something will indeed happen if you're not careful.

But you'll know that you'll be prepared if in the event it happens if you equip yourself.

My sources? Been there, done that, used 'em before.

try nod32 bro. =)

fast scanning and detection, can detect most virus that even FAMOUS anti virus software cant do a thing about.

Takes minimal resident memory space!

i recommend this to you based on my personal experience....

kena some virus and i tried mcafee, norton, kapersky, watever watever...

all no use...

till i tried nod32, now i swear by them!

Best anti virus..... C:/fdisk

While this takes an instant stab at the issue, it also destroys everything -- a person's data and operating system -- on the disk.

In computing, fdisk (for "fixed disk") is a commonly used name for a command-line utility that provides disk partitioning functions in an operating system.

Does the hard disk already contain data?

Have you backed up all of your important data? If not, back up your data before you proceed. When you run the fdisk command to create, delete, or change a partition, all of the data on that partition is permanently deleted. Note that you can view current partition information without deleting your data.

i feel that safe surfing habits and a good firewall like comodo will be more than sufficient to protect yourself. Anti-viruses work based on signatures, which means they cant detect new variants or new types of viruses so its kinda pointless. those that claims to have heuristics are easily bypassed by basically adding junk code to mask the intent of the viral application. i mean efficiency is not high on the priority list of the virus writer.

I like comodo because it can detect funny system calls and at least let u know an application is trying to be funny. but that aside, there is no patch for human stupidity like trying to visit porn or obtain warez.

Anyway if you do still want to use anti-virus, avg has quite a decent signature database, others that you can try are avir, panda, and kaspersky. btw, avg is not "lousier" than the rest just because it's free, it's free because it is in the company's interest to ensure that in the event that is a viral outbreak, they can help to contain the spread especially to their own clients (corporate) hence thats y u can get it free.

Walk a thousand miles.

What happens when you try to visit a website which offers Antivirus software? Can't go in or redirected you to another foreign website?

use kaspersky internet security. seriously. i've experienced on several kinds of antivirus, from free to paid versions, only NOD32 & Kaspersky have the highest detection rate as well as lowest false positives rate.

but, if u want me to compare NOD32 & Kaspersky, i'd suggest Kaspersky.

why?

it's because of the frequent updating to the latest threats between those 2. Kaspersky receives and detects the latest threat earlier compared to NOD32. there was once when there was this virus around, whereby they put it inside as a script in certain applications. none of the AV could detect it, even Kaspersky. But, in order to check it manually, u need a tool to extract every single parts of the executable file. Once extracted, there you'll be able to see one .bin file whereby when u opened it, you'll be able to see the bad script written down.

But soon after, Kaspersky managed to detect that bad script.bin file but NOT Nod32 yet.

try downloading malwarebytes from here

if cannot, try find a third party website which offers malwarebytes anti-malware, have it installed in your PC, update it and then perform a FULL PC scan. It's one of the best trojans/virus remover out there.

Hi,

Does Kaspersky slow down the PC?

I know Norton does slow down.
