I think you misunderstood his message. He's refering to those who don't know the consequences of modding but still go on with the mod, encouraged by some of the bad mechanics in the shops.

The key word in firefox87's message should be "balance" - tilting the balance away may result in good or bad. If you read his message with this word" balance" in mind, what he said made sense.

see this tread than maybe have my 2 cent of view I also ride a uncle bike like the TS state nighthawk 250. i think is save more money to ride a 250 except the 2 strokes type n also hornet 250 because it like a small s4 need 4 plug n tire also.

my nighthawk top only can hit 140 but can save alot on petrol can travel 600km b4 reseve n i dun think is too siong for my bike because 250cc top only 140 n is a 2 piston

anyway hornet 250 can hit 180km/h so still can be consider if u wan speed

dun agree with the above.. when the bike companies make bikes, they have to compromise between wear and tear, performance, budget, selling price, target audience, legal issues, brand image, future planning, ect.

one example ducati 1098 have 1098, 1098s & 1098r. same cc but different performance.

if you want to mod a bike properly, u will also take into consideration the aspects of safety.

good mechs will give good advice including the wear and tear part.

sometimes bikes have a lot of potentials than what the factories present, thats why people like to modify and personalize instead of changing bike everytime they feel something is lacking, and everytime change bike just to find the one "perfect bike".

some people just narrow their minds to think that only bike companies can make good bikes, only OEM parts can be good.

what they think other individuals or companies must be more stupid thats why they're not working at Honda, Yamaha, ect?

do they think every single thing in a Honda bike is manufactured by Honda?

Instead that some things are actually manufactured by another company, yet Honda put their "branding"/packaging, raise the price to sell as OEM parts?

think about it people..

and yes, 250cc have its own specialities.

yeah.. depends on the kind of modding you do. for example, better brake lines and better brake calipers are of course more expensive but they will improve your ride. changing to a big bore kit with no air filter and illegal pipe will definitely boost your speed but spoils everything else that's already in ratio. and of course, aftermarket parts are definitely better than their own brand!! like brake pads, handle bar and etc. just a gentle reminder that a heavily modded 2b bike can definitely beat a stock 2a 250cc bike but that comes at a price of durability and maintenance.

and with what i see from most mechanics, most that i see are those that are soo happy to recommend you to change the parts without offering to offer a cheaper solution. you call that a good mechanic? it's really hard to get a good mechanic nowadays.

anyway, just to add on to the main topic. i really think a yamaha wr250f can beat a suzuki drz 400 anytime!! lol...

beat at what actually bro?

beat at stopping distance?

fuel consumption?

8hr endurance race?

budget?

wear and tear?

5 pole race?

high speed cornering stability?

at attracting unwanted attention?

so a heavily modded 2b phantom 200 can beat an rs250 at...?

fishtailing abilities?.. hehe

no that's not what i call good mechanics..

good mechanic will tell you if there's cheaper yet better alternative.

though sometimes when changing certain parts, its better to change other parts related to it, for more efficiency,

or so that u don't have to open up the same things in the near future to replace the other parts.

each bike go their own good points ba..ultimately it all depends on the type of usual the rider is lookin for.. be it 2 storke or 4 stroke.. 250cc or 400cc.. ofr me i jus prefer a smooth and enjoyable ride, and drz been my dream bike to own before even i got my 2b, definately i'll go for it..

as for modifications of bikes, depends on individuals lo.. as long as you are happy with it just go ahead lo..haha :) but safety come first.. a stock bike is made for a reason..

IMO 250cc is the best balance of power and economy. Its an interesting ride. More standard riding on 250cc. Looking at the suzuki tu250 but dunno imported into sg.

I liked the ybr125 but lack power so 250cc I would be very interested to explore again. Where selling and how much?

My 2 cents worth the hornet 250 is fun ride not the fastest but alot of fun especially cornering slurp slurp. Its like a class 2 bike feel except the power but than again i am the same person tat sold my blackbird casue 2 slow and got a zx12r lol. If u can find the hornet hang on to it man.

Beating a Honda is like banging a fat chick. Everyone can do it but who wants to brag about it....

Ask the same question again, anyone upgrade CB250 to CBX250 can share the different of the new CBX250? But single piston sound boring. No wonder ppl still like the hornet with 4 pistons.

I tink most of the people will upgrade to a bigger cc rather than a model change, i suggest you get a inline 4 s4??

If it is boring? i tink a 400cc ducati.will suit you, lined with two piston ,then you will appreciate the sound, one forumer is letting it go at 6 to 8 k.

.hehehe.if you wanna get a hornet i suggest the cb 1000r man,the ride is extremely amazing lah seh!!!

cheers

Years ago downgraded from Kawasaki EN 400 cos one clinder broke/dead and the bike too old, costly to maintain. Liquid cool you know. Also 400cc engine are too hot for me after long distance travel.

Now CB250 also reaching end of COE. Need to look for new one. I need something practical. The current CB250 is ok but engine already wear off. Just overhaul and cost me a big hole in the pocket.

YBR250 is in HL now. Monoshock but I hate the rear drum brake.

Serious? How much they selling? You got ask? But when i was looking at the service manual, i think mechs wont know how to repair. I don't know. Its not easy like the YBR. For example, YBR125 the air filter is just a sponge. YBR250 its a sponge and must coat in EO. Hmm. THe rear drum brake is a turn off man.

I wonder how much is it.

anyone know the rough pricing of 250cc Street Bikes? Is there one with 6 gears for extra smooth travel on expressway?

im wondering which Street bike to upgrade to.. was thinking super4 but my main priority is fuel consumption, cheap maintenance and comfort rather than power.

did some reading and found that honda hornet 250 fits what i'm looking for. is this bike still available? 6 accelerating gears ah.. that should mean its very smooth on expressway?

anyone know the price of this bike? 1st and 2nd hand? i contacted boon siew but dunno how long then they will reply me.
