Hi becoz i also wanted to film my ride with e objective of gathering evidence. So just sharing my videos using iphone4.

Do skip e front part when i was preparing my gear.

My comments is tat for day time e quality is not bad. E angle i feel is not wide enough. Due to e number plate sticker on my windshield, i was unable to position my phone horizontally. But i ve tested e horizontal position separately, not bad but still e angle is not wide enough for my comfort.

Night mode is terrible. No details nothing. All i see r red trailing dots in a distance.

E mount im using cost $20 bought from MO in sbf. Selling it as doesn't suit my objective of video capture.

Note tat my bike has windshield thus e phone not very affected by wind.

Just sharing my experience for those who may be thinking of usin their iphones for this purpose.

I've been wanting to film my journeys, not for narcissistic reasons, but more in case anything unfortunate happens. Bullet cams are too expensive right now, and I don't want to attach the camera to the bike in case I forget to take it with me.

My solution - a Creative Vado HD attached to my riding jacket. $349 from Creative.

I chose HD instead of the normal Vado as I wanted to capture as much detail as possible (e.g. number plates). The videocam can record slighly over 2hours of footage in HD+ format. You can also record in HD and VGA formats.

This is how I attach it to my riding jacket:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3322/3482168988_365618a30a_m.jpg

Pouch is $2 from Daiso with a hole cut for the lens. I've tried placing it lower (if you look closely you can see glue marks below the jacket logo) but ended up filming my fuel tank instead. So I have to place it as high as I could. That was the highest I could go because I am wearing a flip-up.

The pouch is attached to the jacket with velcro to make it removable; however I don't remove the pouch so I could have sewn the pouch directly to the jacket. Yeah, I know it's ugly, but I don't really care :) I would change to a black pouch if I can find a cheap one though.

Here's a video sample:

Quality of video - excellent as I filmed in HD+, except the videocam pouch tends to flap about in high speed. So you will get jerky images, which makes it unsuitable for track purposes. However, it's good enough for my purposes.

Now, I need to figure out how to attach it to my raincoat...

Whats the name of the pouch? Any keyword I can use to search ebay for it?

1. Check on amazon it's the cheapest so far and you'll save a bit on the local price

2. Locally, I can't remember. Search this tread for "gopro" and I'm sure you'll find

3. On the bike usually on the handlebar or handlebar brace. Gopro sells a mount for bars. And a tripod adapter so you can screw the gopro on any mount that takes regular cameras. Got mine from an online shop called eyeofmine. Sturdiest mount in the world.

Mount locking mechanism varies. Have a look at the mounts out there. Mine is quick release for example. Some can be bolted.

The cam can also be fixed on any surface big enough for the 3M mount: fairing, plastic, tank etc.. As well as on the helmet, or on your chest using a strap. So the mounting will really be more a question of personal preference rather than feasibility.

Securing the mount is your responsibility. The gopro bar mount feels secure for a 2b bike. Never tried it above 120km/h. Eyeofmine mount can be mounted on a typhoon and not get loose.

4. Yes for the gopro2 only. Great. So wide you can get the bike the road the trees the sky and the moon in the same shot.

Look up the gopro site and YouTube for videos. All specs and reviews are there. You can even find tons of videos shot by bikers riding in Singapore.

After watching the 808 video. seems tat becoz sky gliding, there's not much details to take, thus a "low detail" video cam is good enough. But i think for our purpose where we may need things like number plate, maybe not suitable.

Then the http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2011/9/...view-ever.html video, although daytime looks good. BUT, at the end of the video, he did it in a dark room. Cannot see a thing. I wonder in sg with our streetlights and our bike's headlights, will it be good enough.

Currently in my car, i ve a video cam installed. Day good enough, can see number plate up close. Around half to 1 car length away cannot see the number plate already. Night time totally cannot see even with street lamps and car headlights...

If anyone using gopro can advise on this?

1) Day time can capture number plate from roughly wat distance? (Rough car lengths)

2) Night time can capture number plates at all?

looking at alvin's video, day time roughly 1 car length, the number plate is still blur. Maybe is youtube's quality? Maybe alvin can verify if original is much clearer? (And alvin is using gopro?)

edit: some of the answers to my questions can be found in youtube. =D will update once i load finish the videos lol...

After looking at some night videos on youtube of 1) gopro,

2) Poseidon - Waterproof 720P HD Sports Action Video Camera with Remote Control

http://www.chinavasion.com/sports-action-camcorders/poseidon-waterproof-720p-hd-sports-action-video-camera-with-remote-control-2gen/

3) Crocolis HD - 1080P Full HD Extreme Sports Action Camera (Waterproof)

http://www.chinavasion.com/sports-action-camcorders/crocolis-hd-1080p-full-hd-extreme-sports-action-camera-waterproof-n1/

it seems tat for night mode, all 3 camera faces the same issues. Bad lighting will be difficult to see anything (Look at the darker edges of the videos). With street lamps, it is still acceptable. All 3 unable to capture number plate.

For day video, some of the gopro videos are actually lower quality than the other 2. This could be a quality settings by the uploader. But point is some of the videos by the other 2 cameras r not too bad.

2nd Last point is, the other 2 cameras comes with all the accessories including waterproofing case. GoPro will be a additional accessory? (Anyone can verify?)

Last point is price. ^^

Only issue now is, if i really buy, will i be so "on the ball" always keep and mount everyday. Or become white elephant keep in drawer. lol
