well for me, despite the price im paying for the gopro, i know i wont go wrong with it. its proven to be extremely durable, easy to use and widest selection of mounts and third-party accessories. i always think if i buy those ebay type, if lens crack how? if button spoil, how? at least i got warranty as well as can easily other parts online.

 

flip up makes it so difficult to find a place to mount. i wasted 1 adhesive mount. alot of trial-and-error and really have to think out of the box to find a place to mount. but luckily for me, my gopro 3 got wifi so i can see preview on my phone's gopro app. makes it easier.

 

Bro you have the preview screen on your gopro app? It won't work on mine, end up I went to purchase the LCD touch screen

I assume you have already tried this but not getting the full functionality...?

 

Btw, where's the best place to buy GoPro for local user? Any recommendation of a reliable local retailer who has good prices? Or what if you buy online... what happens with after sales / warranty support?

I bought mine from Click! at funan. Got 1 yr warranty. Most harvey norman, cathay photo at marina sq and i tink unique motorsports oso recently start to carry. Prices are controlled somehow. Everywhr same. Unless u can bargain (doubt so).

 

U cant directly order from US (some policy from gopro i tink). Its cheaper though. If u want u can mail thru those services like vpost or comgateway. I tink the shipping will offset the savings though.

u are right, prices are controlled by the local distributor so it is the same price at all retailers.

GoPro does not ship to Singapore because we already have a local distributor for their products.

btw, my friend just bought a hero 3 silver edition and ship via vpost (shipping only $28) and he said he save $50 in total

I'm now using GoPro 3 Black edition. Damn shiok. Other than the sucky battery, everything about this camera is excellent so far. Totally loving it. I used the GoPro HD 2 before, and seriously, this is so much better!

Woo! I just figured out how to get the gopro app's preview screen working on android! Everything is good now. Luckily not the cam problem

Hahaha great! Yah sumtyms the app will write preview not supported. Then just anyhow tap d screen or on/off then suddenly okay. Still buggy ah the app.

Haha I did the manual update n set software player under the app's main screen and then poof* magic. Been finding ways to get the preview screen working, finally settled! Now I can view on the lcd and phone! :thumbup:

I see the Hero 3 Black is around SG$600... which is quite serious money. I'm also still looking at cheaper brands, but not sure what to go for. Apart from the price, my biggest headache is the mounting. I want a central view that captures both sides because you never know where the next moron is going to come from

 

But it's tricky with a flip up. I'm hoping to install it slightly towards the back (just behind where the visor ends when the chin bar is up), and hope the raised mount will give it enough clearance to see forward over the helmet. I have a feeling it should be possible but I won't know until I try. Should probably go down to Harvey Norman or Cathay Photo one of these days and check out the mounting options.

Haha bro, it depends on your usage. Mounting wise, GoPro has alot of mounting accessories, I'm not sure how good is it coz I haven try it but definitely something that can be trusted.

 

For my case, I choose the silver edition which is much cheaper. Using standard wide 720 60fps is good enough for short films and daily events. I do montages using video editing softwares like AE, FC because I don't have a 16gb ram comp, rendering at res 1080 is crazy and lag hell for me. Storage will be eaten up, rendering time will be much longer and bla bla bla.

 

See what you need it for, filming rides, do filming on occasions, sport activities and etc.

Weiiii... Drift oso not cheap! Haha! I was considering drift and contour, but the larger knowledge base, accessory options and indestructibility on the gopro lured me thr! Drift n contour definitely more for helmet mounts.

 

Vid looks good, but given ur choice of music, u shud be travelling much faster than that! LOL.

 

All richer than me. I only using cheap keychain cam only.

 

I oso started wif keychain cam, and the decision-making to spend 10x the amt on a gopro gave me many sleepless nites. I jux dislike that its not weather resistant n battery life sucks.

Its a good cam, especially for mounting on helmet due to its small profile. Battery life is good (3.5hrs). Downside is non-removeable battery, no preview & need to connect to PC to change settings or modes. Makes a gd daily cam, but i wanted one wif more flexibility for touring n stuff.

If u scared to invest in one, do like me. just get the basic White edition. its still pretty good. and its not as if i will full utilise the super hi resolutions and very advanced features (probably need a powerful PC and softwares). at least if i dont really use it, im only out $300+. if i like it, i can always get another Black edition and use my White as 2nd cam, maybe mount facing me, or face behind or find nice nice angle at the side.
