VAG = Volkswagen Audi Gruppe

They are mainly made up of

Volkswagen, Audi, Å koda, Seat, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Bentley

But what I see mostly are that our VAG independent workshops seem to be more efficient in working on the 4 main mass market brands. Volkswagen, Audi, Å koda and Seat.

Yes there is, a mechanic call Ismail, rented a space at Innovative Performance at Bt Merah Lane 3, he's ex-agent mechanic who is well verse in renaults makes. He also have the diagnostic tool, Clips for renaults. I goto him for engine specific servicing like autotrans flush, engine mounts, electronic problems. But so far no major failure from my ride, i feel renault engines are reliable.

Basic oil change, filter, sparks this type i go United Motors for them. United motors manage to resolve my coolant leak problem.

Sounds like a good workshop ;) do find alternatives in case this shop gives you a bad experience and you have nothing to fall back on. Also good for comparing prices :p

avion at wat floor? 2nd?

No idea :p

Failed to see you at Servotronic yesterday, I was there again today and also at MBM/KBS.. Dennis sure is good at his job in the workshop :thumb:

Am looking forward to going to Spark at senoko to get my shock absorbers and servicing done.. Have already been to 2 workshops currently.

EuroHaus for my Steel Braided and Servo for transmission fluid(you should know for which gearbox ;))

Anyone actually possess a OBD2 scanner for troubleshooting their vehicles?

Nowadays seems like cheaper lower end devices that can troubleshoot basic maintenance? Locally where to buy retail from?

not sure abt the retail in sg but we order from online us sites.

you know the literature on these wide arrays of machines? Or base on recommendation from your mechanic? My mechanic uses this superscan Dec 2, costs GBP 3.3k, but only limited to Euro models. I looking for one that has Japanese and Euro would be worth it. Since now GBP is only 2.3 to SGD, good time to invest one. But which one?

i will just give a avg price guide

wash filter (not just use air gun blow blow) $20-$30

engine oil depending on wat brand/grade/amount and vehicle cat. , lets use a example : "ELF fully syn (non-competition)" range $78-$108 depending on vehicle cat. Common brands like mobil range from $88-$128, autob*c castrol oil package $88.

EO Service package normally will include 4l of oil, oil filter, 16 point check, oil drain plug washer (optional).

Spark plug

Very subjective to wat brand and range you're getting... a normal NGK ik normal plug and a NGK R plug can cost alot of difference. Normal car plugs should not exceed $70-$80 based on oem specs with labour change.

For normal oil servicing, there's hardly anything to chop u off except smaller stuffs like non-original oil filter etc, some bullshit labour charge that came out from no where....

Question... I am looking for a good workshop in the west... And I am currently looking at AutoBacs.... any feedback or opinion from anyone??? I always bring back my car to C&C... first time decides to bring out to normal workshop....

"Money is the root of all evil" <Be careful if someone ask a loan from u... Be wary if the person promises the sky. Be thankful if u had made the right decision to reject the pathetic person.>

Found some literature on OEM diagnostic tools that sells at a reasonable price, this one sells mainly conti-makes, for a few hundred bucks, you get a computer mechanic that diagnose your engine mgt system, aircon, coolant, some even suspension systems, now with this, you can go stockist buy the part and go workshop and repair. I like.

Hi guys, I am new car owner...

Just bought a 2nd hand aveo (60km). Mech says to change timing belt (or chain) at 70k.

Is it true? Also any indication how much it is going to cost? Got cheong and original or not?

Any good place for aveo servicing?

Thanks a lot!

Posted

considered major servicing... belt, pump, thermo all replaced.

labour few hundred dollars, total ard >$800 depending on models and workshop.

Mileage to judge replacement of belt is quite subjective to make/model, and i do not have much info on aveos. Normally 75k ~ 110k, but dun take the risk. Replace it early will save u much more $$ than when belt snap.

Alex is right, Aveo is made in Korea, i changed my timing belt maximum 60k, not beyond. Becos of our humid hot weather, i worry more on belt snapping. And for goodness sake, timing belt dont buy cheong wan!!! Its supposed to drive your cam shafts, pistons, water pump and radiator coolant flow all in one, you want cheong one!!!

Its consider major service, becos the engine have to be lifted off the engine bay, and refit the belt, water pump, fan belt, pulley tensioner etc etc. Also check for engine mount wear, the rubber piece that dampens vibration from engine to chassis.

RDY at AMK AutoPoint (for Chevys) http://www.rdyautocare.com/

Am not driving a Chevy, but they know their stuff. The secretary driving a Verna, nicely done up. Not pricey. Servicing comes with wash and vacuum. V good. Goes down to track frequently.

AOTO Pte Ltd at Toh Guan, Enterprise Hub http://www.aoto.sg/

Hearsay is familiar with Hyundai cars (am driving Avante), nearer than RDY (staying in the West). Not pricey, explanation available on requests, friendly. Comes with free wash as well at a nearby car wash by hand.
