I kept a tab on my Fuel Consumption ever since I got my 748. I have data for at least 2 and a half yrs. On average it is 16km/L. On long trips (KL), it's possible to get 18km/l. Track riding is around 12~14km/L depending how hard I ride. My tank is 17L stated, but safely I could go 260km on a tank using the reserve too, since I always top up to the cap fully. The manual suggest leaving 10cm of space just before the tank cap, not all the way.

My buddy on his 998S claims a better mileague than me though.

Another reason to consider the 1098 over the 848 is that, in case you need to sell away the bike for whatever reason (backup plan), it will be easier to sell the 1098 rather than the 848, being most SG riders wanting more power, even if they dun need it. Plus side is next year, they will be racing the 1098 F08, it will definately bring up the hype of the 1098 (though it's a 1198 that Troy will actually be racing). Also, the 1098S are already racing in the World Superstock class, part of WSBK. 6 of them are in the series, so there will be more issues that will be sorted out in the newer 1098 model.

Hi bro,in that case i must consider carefully before making the final purchase & i hope that my final decision wont disappoint me.

Btw i wish to tks all the duke bros whose have given me so much details on the bike which im going to get.

some pple buy the lower series bcos they like a lighter and more revier engine. some pple like it as it is cheaper.

if money is not too much of an issue why not get the 1098. its a sbk and it is going to be the same imo if you are riding in spore only for both the bikes, you would hardly be able to open your throttle fully for more than a few secs to hit the speed limit on our roads.

for this matter i am always speeding on the road ;)

Oic,but u dont see often 848 on road cause it a rare piece of italian bike, where else 1098 is common in sg nowadays.

Well i tink thats because 848's arent on SG roads yet, but if u ask me personally, i tink 1098 would be much better choice instead of settling for 2nd place. It costs me $45K odd OTR considering my young age too. $39k for the machine price, 250cc more, it tink its quite worth it :)

You're looking at around $400 to $600 per 10,000km for engine work alone. That does not include replacing a set of tyres and clutch plates every now and then.

The harder you ride, the more it will cost.

Thats true ..... Money is one of the factors you have to stanby if you go track often ......

But i find its reasonable ok coz to achieve 10km its not a matter of a day or two .... its aprox ard 4 to 6mths. 600/6 is abt $100 a mth.

Ha ha, actually not quite true....the running cost of the Duc Sportsbike is the same be it you track, cruise, tour or display your bike at Orchard. Ok, maybe the tyres....but Hell, I had good deals for track tyres anyways, so it does not matter to me.

That's why I rather use the Duc for track. The servicings cost would be justified because you knew it was spend to maintain a trackbike.

BUt of course, with spare cash for a set of race fairings would be so sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Bro, 1098....for that couple of thousands more. Seriously if you dun intend to track aggressively or even track at all, the 1098 would be a better overall bike. Take it from the 9 series owners here. Either they are track junkies who are not cruising in the tracks, or they dun track at all. Where as most of the 7 series Duc owners tends to be track junkies.

The extra few thousands would be worth the money be it you keep the bike or sell it away. It's right to say "How fast can one go in SG?" but would you not go 2nd link to open up the power once in awhile? You would love the 1098 if you go 2nd link, and especially when you "very love" your bike, you know you are not pushing the bike all the way. We 7 series Duc riders love to redline the bike, and I could even get the bike into rev limiter in 6th gear at 2nd link.

Get the 1098.
