YAmaha FZ1 and FZ6 windshield. apparently, there was a debate going on in several forums recently about how good can an aftermarket windshield perform in terms of reducing wind noise and prevent direct air hit onto helmet.

So, many have tried and found that the bubble racing puig windshield gives an extreme difference away from the stock. Puig claims that the windshields are actually tested and thus design the aerodynamic racing windshields. to my opinion, my goodness!...oh it's gorgeous.

Okay, this will probably the last major upgrade for my bike for this year. I've read where a few people disliked this shield, but it's American-made, from experienced designers, so I thought I'd give it a try. And, since a few people have asked to see pics of the RIFLE shield, I thought I would write up a real post about it, so no one will ever have to ask again.

 

You are looking at the 24" windshield system for the 2nd Gen FZ1, installed on my silver '06.

 

I got the shield via UPS, yesterday, and installed it with little difficulty. I ran out of time to test it last night, so I got out early this morning, before work, so I could jump on the freeway before the traffic got too heavy.

 

The Test:

At lower, city speeds, I could keep my faceshield up, but once I got over 45mph, I had to lower it. Getting up to around 60-70, there was more noise around my upper head that I had hoped to not experience, but it was much better than the stock. This shield did flex a bit, but not terribly. It blocked my body extremely well, almost too well, as I started getting a warm with the microfleece shirt under my jacket.

I found that I could more efficiently reach higher speeds, and barely feel the difference. That was nice.

Another pro was being able to tuck under it, in case I get stuck in a heavy fog or rain, which can happen quite a bit in Western WA.

 

 

Bonus:

  • Better windblocking
  • Gives bike a serious 'tour' rider look.

Gripes:

  • Still some buffeting around upper helmet.
  • The 'Air Balance Base' could be a little thicker, just for the sake of feeling like it's heavy duty. (Hey, I'm an American.)
