I went to see a phantom recently and I noticed that there is a patch of paintwork to the left side of the fuel tank cap which looks corroded. Upon asking the owner, the owner replied that he used to pump petrol to full and it will leak small amounts out without him noticing till as time passed by and the formation of the corrosion gotten his attention to it.

May I ask if it's the problem with the fuel tank cap, or does pumping petrol to the brim/ near the brim would naturally cause the petrol to leak out from fuel tank? Many thanks!

yup, when pump too full, the petrol might actually leak out a little from there. n while pumping petrol itself, if u r not careful n pump ur petrol between the petrol inlet n the chrome part, the petrol can leak out from that same place also...

Thanks for the info! :)

Now I can rest my mind off that problem~

in actual fact, phantom fuel breather is located on the fuel cap, if you pump too full, the fuel cannot breathe and sometimes bike might not be able to start or engine will stall...

the manual i think got state not to pump and cover the 'neck' area of the fuel tank.

Will it have any permanent effect to the machine?

If after realizing the problem and stop pumping too much petrol, would things go back to normal?

The paintwork doesn't really bother me that much, I'm more worried about the cause and effect of the leaking petrol. If pumping lesser petrol would solve the problem, then I would feel more at ease. :)

The owner was quite truthful in telling me he didn't know and topped up too much and it leaked while parking. The corrosion isn't really that bad. I'll pay more attention to it when I view the bike again next time.

Although I spotted a few minor problems with the bike, I feel that this bike is 'the one' after looking at all the other bikes. :cheeky:

Had that sound when using $6 engine oil. If you're worried just bring to Planet and let Chong test ride the bike. Go early in the morning, he won't charge you a cent for the services :) He might even tune it a bit while on the go and hand over a smoother running machine in 5 mins time. No joke.

Hi guys,

Did a search but cannot find relevant topics..

I'm a very casual rider so my bike .. sometimes i ride once a week(try).

Yesterday i tried to start then tiak tiak tiak. i think my battery uplorry already.

Btw how long before we need to change our battery(my last change was about 1.5-2 yrs back)? and what is the life span of it? and.. if we don't ride it, about how long can it tahan before all the battery is drained?

Have to try to push start tonight. :sian:

Push start is easy. I had to do that for 2 days when my starter contacts were kaput. $35 at planet to repair.

If your lights are still working the battery is fine. Hook up a voltmeter to test. Battery -$65, starter coil and carbon brush replacement, $35. Give me a call if you need a push start demo.
