Thinking of respraying (experimenting) on an old helmet. Have got the theory in mind, but any experts here can advise on what i miss?

1. Sand colour out using No. 80 sandpaper

2. Use No320 to finish it out

3. Get RJ brand putty to smoothen holes and whatnots

4. No320 again to make sure surface is even

5. 2 coats of spray

6. Lacquer

Does this sound proper? Any comments and advise is much appreciated:angel:

hmm.. from 80 to 320.. seems like quite a big difference. i tried 180 first, and then 400.. still can see abit of scratches..

maybe you need to add in primer before you spray the colour. firstly it helps to spot any visible scratch/hole/uneven surface. secondly colour will stick to it better.. the finishing will be nicer.

be sure to masked out parts you dont wish to spray (:

lacquer... me myself is bad at it..haha. but.. practice makes perfect. (:

Goodluck.

cheers ('',)

Start with 240grid followed by 400grid and end with 600 or 800 grid.

And always remember not to sand on metalic painted surfaces it will scratch the metalic.

U can sand on the clear though.

i'm spraying my helmet and i found out a problem.. when i mask out the parts where i dont want to spray in an attempt to spray on a design, the edges of the designs will be very uneven. i think it's due to the tape i use.. i use a regular masking tape(white).. i guess that doesnt work well for design based spray painting.

anyone knows which tape to use for lining out the designs for spray painting..?

i need something that i can easily shape and bend according to my desire designs.. stuck halfway with my paint job.. darn it..

i'm using spray can btw..
