-This is the only affordable water proof bag for biking as far as I know.

-The Next one i know is hard case like our regular givi ect

-Still got one kind of bag 100 percent waterproof is use ziplock inside any bag. lol

Slip on Rain cover almost useless cos when bike move, the wind motion

pushes rain water up, down, left, right, center

Light occasionaly rain ok, heavier rain or when touring sure cannot make it.

hi guys, just need your opinion. Just got retrenched and i am toying with the idea of distributing some waterproof bags to earn some monies. I am a biker and i ride a bike without rear box. I always worry about the rain. I can wear raincoat but I worry my laptop etc will get wet. Its not exactly comfortable to wear your raincoat over the backbag as most of us can testify to that.

I tried looking around for a decent waterproof bags but so far its hard to find.

Do you think there will be a demand for it?

I attached some pics. So far nobody really makes bags for bikers. Except TUMI which uses DUCATI brand and it costs a BOMB.

Thanks

I think it's an excellent idea but i guess material cost isn't going to be cheap. however, like some accessories and helmets they are being produced in china which helped bring the cost down. i know of ppl who are doing that and during times of recession, most ppl would appreciate some savings too :)

i have been looking for waterproof bags as well.

Used to help a friend distribute 'Gearsack' which looks similar to TS's postings.

But in the end, everything is just too expensive in a lot of sense.

TS should also consider venturing into other businesses besides bike luggage.

BTW, nothing beats boxes on the bikes for waterproofing...that is.....if the whole bike wasnt dump into a river.

For true waterproofing. Get the biggest ziplock bag you can find.

A can of 3m upholstery spray and spray your normal bag as often as you can, to avoid your normal bag getting soaked thru and acting as deadweight.

how about these bags? Its completely waterproof. But it cost a bomb. About SGD 150 each. Nice but pricey. If i can garner enough interest, I can get a manufacturer to produce a simlar product.

Actually I am in the midst of preparing my own FnB business in China. This bike luggage comes about because i am riding a bike without boxes and each time it rains, I got worry. I looked around and couldnt find anything convincing enough to be waterproof. I thought if there's enough interest, I can do something for the bikers and honestly earn some money along the way.

Frankly, even hard case may not be waterproof...My old box leaks!

how much would a bag in the picture cost?

I've not the time to check on prices, but i was told Sg dive shops have stock for this type of bags.

Well, its nice to read that you are not going to be putting all your eggs in one basket.

Ok, here's generally the issues about saddle bags as they are commonly called. Water still seeps into the bag thru the seams, zippers or when the bags lose their waterproofing chemicals.

People can cut into your saddle bags and run off with it. Or they simply want to vandalise your bags.

Too heavy a load, and some saddle bags have been known to tear off at the seams or some points of wear and tear.

Its not as repair-able with stickers or duct tapes. And it won't go under a sewing machine.

Though its slim and can keep your bike aerodynamic (that is only in thinking), but that is only possible if you really physically strap it down at the bottoms too. Or they will flap like wings when you go on high speed. Best to strap it down to your exisiting side box rack. I didnt think it was truly aerodynamic since it functions as top boxes or side boxes.

It would have been preferable to just get a backpack and strap it down on your pillion seat with a mesh net hooks.

Nice, and I didnt think its pricey.

Am now in possession of Deuter backpack with a mesh netting backing for S$119/-.

So if yours is about that price, water proof and with a net backing so air flow can ciculate the back. S$150 is affordable to most of us.

hehe..the good news is..SGD150 is the price off the internet retail. It should be below sd 100 if its from me. I am hoping to garner enough interest so that i can get the factory to start making it. Unfortunately the MOQ is about 500-1000 pieces...thats a lot...

Kreiga backpacks aren't waterproof. Can tahan a light shower but even then gets damp inside. It's my daily use bag so i have a plastic bag inside to keep my valuables dry if riding in heavy rain.

My kreiga waistpouch has one small waterproof pocket with sealed zips and everything, but the rest of it isn't either, although it stays pretty dry even in heavy rain.

actually u need the extra water/rain-proof bag to put ur items in first before putting it into the bag. This bag is also made of the same material as those divers or kayaking bags. thick n rubberry, totally submerge-able:thumb:

Interesting comments I've been reading so far...

But TS is trying to make a business out of this mah...

- Zip lock is good but can't really qualify, I don't think TS wanna market zip locks.

- That waterproof bag is commonly used by NSF in Brunei for wet weather, beach road has and it's meant to be placed inside another compartment. So that makes it a hassle to market right? It's like you want 1 product but in the end a salesman market you 2 products.

So basically, maybe what TS is looking for is a one product that is water proof, unless he doesn't mind marketing more than 1 product at a time e.g. A water-resistant backpack + a water proof bag inside...

My own comments:

If the product is going to be worn, it can't be completely waterproof on the outside, else when you wear it, your skin can't breathe, that means product will get sweat + sweat salt which means need to wash.

For ViciousKitty74s' suggestion on the strap down, that would be = -pillion seat...

So it's either a rider worn product, a specific container (waterproof laptop skin/bag) or a bike accessory (box, sidebox etc).

Safety tips:

Always STOP at the STOP LINE!

Don't rush. You're not racing for a record.

Always look in front, especially when trying to change lanes, the vehicle in front might jam brake.

Don't be easily offended, a**holes exists, mingling with them gets you sh*t.

A tankbag made of the same material and same type of seaming as a diver's bag is the solution.

Confirmed, waterproof.

Been thinking of this for long long time. End with one solution.

Use normal bag as usual. Bought one waterproof bag like those compression duffel bag stuff. Large capacity. When rain, put all my thing inside like bag, sport shoe(got spare slipper), and other stuffs in. It costs me only SGD25 at lavender army shops there. Durable. After use can dry easily like raincoat. then fold it n keep inside bike. Convenient. And i can use whichever bag i like either its waterproof or not. wakaka..

Cheers..

i just bought one for $30, 10L version, with a sling from beach road army store. Standby for downpour use. Still using my normal haversack, more comfy carrying.

My method to keep my laptop dry:

I use a regular company issued Targus laptop backpack which is splash resistant.

I usually put my laptop in a double seal ziploc bag before popping it in the backpack.

Guaranteed to stay dry, tested in heavy rain before.

p/s: I usually don't carry raincoats with me, I keep riding when there is rain, or find a convenient place to stop.

I was in Phuket town and Patong recently.

Seen similar diving bags sold at 15 litres 500baht. Which converts to SG$21.55.
