2010 Multistrada replacement = Strada Aperta

http://www.ducati.ms/forums/showthread.php?t=56209

http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/4075/ducatistradaperta12001pi4.jpg

Stradaperta 1200 begins to be on the lips and minds of all motorcycle riders and enthusiasts of Rosse di Borgo Panigale. Heir of what has been the victim of its own design rather than intinsecamente of 'progress' with the times, the Multistrada, the novel' handyman 'Ducati maintained almost entirely intact the spirit multi-purpose of its progenitor, deeply evolving forms and engineering.

According to initial information we have gathered, 'rendered' from the famous pencil Raffaele Poblete, Stradaperta should be the first product on which Ducati will install the engine cylinder 1200 DS: the third step of the DS family, the new L-twin air-cooled born to offer higher performance, not only to low and middle regimes. The intent of technical Borgo Panigale, in fact, is to break the wall of the 100 hp ... but put from the proverbial quality delivery of the medium and low revs, always icon of V2 Dual Spark. As for the 848 Testastretta first SBK and then reply, DS 1200 will exploit the vacuum Vacural technology for the merger of the casing, which will save about 3 kg compared with a traditional procedure.

Light, the entire Ducati philosophy 'less is more', and all CVs used for a motorcycle in this category, the new Stradaperta 1200 will propose a revised version of the chassis and correct decomposable already seen on Monster 696 and 1100. At the rear frame of cast aluminum, therefore, will be joined by high-strength bolts the top trellis structure of steel tubes, which will take shape and measures other than those of Monster.

A fork stems overturned monobraccio rear Brembo brakes and high-performance, the new Ducati Stradaperta based on wheels in aluminum alloy from 17 '. There are rumors, for now, a possible enduro declination of this project, but there is no doubt that the success of the front wheel from 19 '- see BMW GS - has long been under evaluation in the highest floors Marketing Ducati.

Ducati fans are waiting for the release of Ducati’s Strada Aperta (name to be confirmed), which will replace the Multistrada this year. These spy shots give a sketchy idea of the bike, whose release should happen in November.

The Strada Aperta is still heavily camouflaged but the overall style is evident, with a sleek, agressive look and pointed tail in dirt-bike style. The bike should sport front twin disc brakes, single rear disc, and single-sided swing arm. There are some classic Ducati features that meet expectations (such as Ohlins suspension), but debate on the engine to be chosen is inconclusive.

A 1,200cc air cooled DS motor was originally reported, but rumours have changed to speculate that the motor will be the liquid-cooled Testastretta from the Ducati Streetfighter. With the target competitor set to be the BMW R1200GS, Ducati might have some other surprises up its sleeve. In the gallery is a full set of Strada Aperta spy shots from recent months, from Motociclismo, MCN and Motor.nl.

MCN just snapped these shots of a disguised Ducati Stradaperta performing extreme endurance testing on a motocross track, saying, "The bike was getting at least six feet of air over some of the jumps." Thus far, every indication has been that Ducati's new liquid-cooled adventure tourer would be heavily road-biased, with an exposed front cylinder and non-knobbly tires.

The thinking has been that since no one would want to be stranded in a desert, 100 miles from nowhere, by Ducati's famous reliability, the Stradaperta would be following in the footsteps of the Multistrada in its off-road inspiration/on-road limitation and would improve on the Multistrada's performance with a liquid-cooled engine of either 1099 or 1198cc.

These photos would seem to prove otherwise, indicating off-road performance capable of easily rivaling the BMW R1200GS, if not the HP2 Enduro. We suspect something a little more fishy is going on here. Still unconvinced that the exposed and highly-tuned Italian superbike engine could ever be suitable for true off-roading, we're going to go out on a limb and guess that these shots are another attempt by Ducati to build hype around the new bike. How did a spy photographer catch such clear shots at a presumably remote location? How did he/she know to be there in the first place? In the hands of an expert rider, the heavy, presumably fragile Stradaperta could be made to lap a motocross track even if, in the real world, such a feat would be considered warranty-voiding abuse of the worst possible degree. We still expect the Stradaperta to be more a rival for the KTM 990 SMT and Triumph Tiger than the R1200GS and KTM 990 Adventure. One things for sure, it's still ugly.

Mmm...looks abit ugly haha. Hope they move the header from the front part of the engine away...that's the part I hate most about the new engine: placement of headers and mid pipe.
