Hi bros n sis, I'm riding a NSR SP n just last nite got into an accident at upp changi road near a.s. phoon there.

I was travelling at about 70-80km/h when suddenly a taxi cut into my lane to pick a passenger, I immediately e-brake and skidded. The moment i got back up i tried to remember his no. plate but was in blur blur condition. I had a eye-witness but he too didnt really get a good look at the taxi's no. plate as the bloody driver fled the scene. Only had a look at his no. SXX 5572 X (XX refers to the unknown alphabets). I'm asking u guys as u all are more experienced, should I let those accident claim shops handle the job of tracking down the taxi uncle? Or shld i track him down myself n try 2 settle it privately? Pls advice thanks~!!

If i am not wrong, TP can sumon you 4 points for self skid. Happened to my friend before. Taxi driver anyhow turned out after picked up passenger, friend e brake and skidded. He suffered abarasions but was more or less okay. TP came down, asked him to just settle privately with the driver because at the end of the day the TP IO will give him points under self skid.

ouch for u and ur bike... haha

if u remembered his company e.g. comfort or citycab then that makes it alot alot easier... if u manage to grab hold of him, tell him u oreadi have a witness oreadi,tt way he cant deny if u wanna settle it privately.

Ride safe bro, i almost got killed few times because of reckless taxi drivers haha

there is high chance of u tracking out the particular cab since u have the numbers in the no. plate.

there can only be SH 5572, SHA 5572, SHB 5572, SHC 5572 & maybe SHD 5572.

:cheeky:

don't tink all of them would be a sonata.

Hi bro, have you reported the incident to you insurer? Please do so if you intend to persue the case. I think must report within 24 hrs (if not wrong) but tell then only wan to report but no claims. Since you did not remember the taxi's license plate, it will be difficult.

http://www.onemotoring.com.sg/publish/onemotoring/en/motoring_buzz/smart_driver/motoring_tips/motor_claims_framework.html

From your story, there is no contact between your bike and the taxi. This makes it harder for any claims of "I skid becauise of you". With eyewitness, also difficult.

Unless got camera proof then easier. Please note, self-skid carries a fine and demerit points.

From what you say, you are travelling 70-80km/h on a 60km/h road. That is over the speed limit already. They can use that plus you did you keep a safe distance between you and the taxi. You can ask for legal advice from your bikeshop lawyer or your own lawyer. I believe it will be 50-50. Coz will be you words against his words.

For me if the damage is not high, get it repaired, forget about it and treat it as a lesson. Be more alert and ride more cautiously.

Please do not say that you are a student or still in NS. Most of us have done that. Last time NS pay much much less than now.

Always ride safely and defensively.

Repair bike cheap and fast,

Repair body expensive and slow.

you have an eye witness.. but is he going to take the time and go take statements and even worse, go court? the taxi driver didnt make any contact with you? if he didnt, you might want to reconsider pursuing the case.

i had a skid cos an inconsiderate driver just dashed a right turn while i am going straight, i brake and skidded. cut my story short, went to pursue the case and ended up forking out 1k+ for repairs, survey fees and lawyer fees etc.

hey bro. i sad to hear this man.. how u alrite? if ur sp is going to coe end. might as well don repair n mayb get urself a new bike?e.g X9?

juz my 2 cents

in theory, u can claim his insurance, and from some other experience, u may get demerit points etc from TP..

Thus, back to what options. for normal ppl, jus leave with it if the damage is not too great since it's not justify to persuade all the way.

but if u wan justice or ur damage is very high thus u wan the cab to take responsibility too, and u dun mind the hassle, then yes, go ahead to report to TP and let them investigate.. TP will able to trace the cab with those information given by u.. I dun think there is many same cab or even car with number mentioned by u..

take care.

i thought of this before too.. if that time i didnt brake and skid i just continue riding let the driver knock me much higher chance of claiming already..

Yes...as long as you got contact and got proof the person cuts into your lane, you will not be penalized. The hit backside rule does not apply if got strong evidence. That is what I feel.

Usually for this type of situation, the bikers follow too close to the vehicle and thus jam brake and no time to react. That will be the reason given by TP lah.

that was going through my mind when the bloody sand truck hit me.

"if i self skid, i'll be fined..." and the front wheel of the truck struck me from the left and cause me to lose control and crash. i'm just glad i ended up on the opposite lane instead of underneath the truck's wheels. :giddy:

haha thanks bro, dont intent to persue the case.. coz bike shop told me no physical contact wif the taxi driver very hard 2 build a case, whats more unconfirmed no. plate, anyway just wish the taxi driver would reflect on his mistakes and not do it again.. otherwise can condemn him in hell for his disregard of human lives
