my phantom used to idle irregularly and FC wasnt so good.. throttle wasn't as responsive.. didn't want to service my carb, afraid it might get worst.. so i used FP60 and it helps a little.. $30+ and shud last several months.. don't expect wonders, but nw my idling is stable and my throttle feels much better.. :) additives are ok, as long as u r nt spending hundreds on them.. dats too much! i'd rather go for mechanical mods to make ur bike better lyk better EO or sprocket mods..

A ride a day, keeps the doctor away!

I get 'impossible' economy from both 2 strokes and 4 strokes from simple mechanical tuning and plain smart riding.

Some of these tuning methods are derived from official BMW motorcycle service centre bulletins from the 80s and onward. They work wonderfully on my Phantom.

If additives were so wonderful, why don't major auto and bike manufacturers pre-install them for you at the factory? Any fuel economy or performance gain from new technology would be gobbled up by the major players instantly.

Look at Bosch technology for instance - their ESP is now standard issue on many mid to high end cars; Audi, Mercedes Benz, and several other marques have also implemented Bosch magnetic suspension technology for some time now.

I don't see "XYZ magical additive" endorsed by their engineers yet. Remember these engineers supported by the largest auto manufacturers in the world can be regarded as "always right" - they have billions of dollars to research the next generation of automotive tech and build concepts decades in advance of today.

In this respect I don't see them talking about "magical catalysers able to holographically change the molecular structure of petrol making it burn faster" because scientifically, that is bullshit. Faster burning petrol = retard valve timing right now or else the engine is destroyed.

The best running motorcycle is one that runs on a good motor oil and drinking fresh, clean petrol. Petrol products today have a relatively huge package of additives designed to promote cleaner combustion, reduced emissions and if you want to pay for Vpower, Caltex Platinum or Esso 8000, stuff that claims to increase engine performance too.

These 'additive packages' were extensively tested by the big oil companies and that's all you need in terms of 'additives'. It's the same for motor oil. They've been extensively tested with inbuilt additive packages to boost protection and performance.

If you want to really go in depth about motor oil chemistry, yes it's possible to get a cheap basic oil and then DIY customise the additive packages using off the shelf materials. But you must be VERY careful not to add stuff like friction reducers into a wet clutch oil sump or else overhaul (extreme clutch slippage = unriderable). However we're not in Victorian times and hardcore DIY motor oil manufacturing is unlikely to produce any results superior to what's already on the market.

do u suspect u have a tank of "off spec" fuel?

send a sample for testing and let the oil major you bought from know.

u might get a decent supply FOC so u need not think about addictives no more :)

There was once a rider whose Pulsar received a dose of diesel instead of petrol, from the petrol pump. Wonder if he got a lifetime supply of Shell petrol :D

i assume u meant that he used the correct pump but it was fed the incorrect fuel?!

Yep! He had quite a hard time convincing the station manager on duty of the error (rare as it is) but it was obviously NOT petrol (smell) and the bike of course didn't run. Not sure if you can search for this story, it possibly having been buried under tons of gossip we create on sbf...

lucky he didnt start the bike, if not it will be "pulsating" for sure. :)

Hmm, fuel savers. Let's talk about alternative fuels. Anyone dares to try and see if vegetable oil can be used as fuel? :D Apparently, from UK testing in a certain popular motoring show, diesel engines using Bosch injectors can use vegetable oil without conversion. I would love to have my car smell like fish and chips, as is the case in Ireland where people get used vegetable oil for free :p

Palm oil has been used both as a fuel and a lubricant in Malaysia, on budget cars like Peroduas. Now that is HUGE fuel saving potential. You may need to put additives into the palm oil to increase cold start, anti-acid, and anti-moisture properties but otherwise palm oil DOES pass some API specifications for engine oils. LOL! :D

the way to top performances...is to maintain bike in tip top conditions...

if adding addictives works...i would drop a pill..and all my fc problems solved...but xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

add a chain oiler to your bike...the low cost ( only available in sg) and proven performance enhancer...

if you need proof..it can be proven within 10 minutes...not days .. xx tank of uel ..or 100s km..etc.

imho.

unless u r riding diesel engines....

there is no savings in fuel cost...only with lower harmful emission..

the fuel cost savings..if u diy..and covert the used cooking oil....not in sin city..

reports from uk...the authorities are looking at evasion of fuel tax,,,for the diy fuel users.

palm oil as lubricant??? it must be a first in the world...

saw that on mythbusters i think. veg oil can be used without refining, however in long run, dont know what damage it could do to ur engine. i heard there is a group in SG that do refining used veg oil to a clean diesel alt. however refining is a long process, not suitable for mass production yet, not to mention the cost.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?
